I guess it could be fun to do it once to emphasize the exploration aspect but even, then, since no NPC in the game will ever be able to say the name out loud, we could only name some completely irrelevant rock in the middle of nowhere that no one will ever care about. So I don't really see the point. This is supposed to be a Mass Effect game, where people need to talk about stuff, not No Man's Sky where you just fly around on your own.

Also, if there are one or multiple space faring species already in Andromeda, I'd imagine the planets already have been named.

I guess otherwise, alphanumeric designations would make a lot of sense, especially if we just arrived but I do hope there will be more to it. In ME1/2/3 I liked the planet descriptions best that revealed some sort of cultural aspect to them. I hope we won't just fly to PX454 and read that the crust is mainly made up of carbon with deposits of nickle.

That's not what i meant by that by saying that guys are extinct i meant those guys in those clothes. To me they look like ancient Greek or ancient Romans and i had no idea there were actually ancient Patricians back then. I need to get some more history lessons :D

edit. and yes you are right the inhabitants of Patricia should be called Patricians that also has a nice ring to it. ;)

Patricians were the members of roman families with a high status in ancient Roma, nobles and high bourgeoisie. They had political and religious prerogatives members of the pleb, plebeians, didn't have.

I hope we get more numerical planet names or planet names that are in an alien language, because too many worlds in the ME trilogy had names based on human History and culture.

Name the planets? The colony's Astronomical Section or the Scouts have first dibs on that.

Well, to be fair, if we are "the pathfinder", that kinda implies we are one of the scouts.

Will we be naming planets or will they be given a alpha-numerical designation like in Stargate or have all planets be named after the system's sun and have a number after like in the Andromeda TV show (ex. Seefra-1, Mobius-6)?

I assume (and hope) they get their names by Bioware. Naming them ourselves could be fun, but it would lead to a situation in which it can't be used in dialogues. 'We have to get back to PLANET NAME!' 'Remember those guys, we saw them at PLANET NAME.' 'Expected time of arrival at PLANET NAME is 3 minutes.' Stuff like that, that makes the game more immersive. More immersive elements are more important than sandbox elements, in my opinion.

Yup, humanity just arrived in the galaxy and already the most famous night club in the universe has big bright human AFTERLIFE letters above the entrance. It's silly.

Indeed. I chose to just believe the omnitranslator implant just automatically translated it for me, so that it would be less ridiculous to me. That led me to wonder what kind of other things it could have super-imposed the original name of After-life with...

Interesting. We did never get to do dis in the rest of the ME series - so it'd be awesome to do so in ME:A - but I wouldn't get my hopes up too much though...

I, too, had been wondering of late how planet names will be handled. I doubt we, the players, will be naming them ourselves. That seems like more hassle than it's worth.

I could see a scenario in which a single planet (or star) gets named after the PC. Maybe it's the first unexplored planet to which you lead a team. Alternately, maybe the PC ends up being the first human to set foot on a world in the new home galaxy. Any similar, simple discovery-based storyline could fill the same role.

Neither scenario seems particularly necessary or likely; but something along those lines would be as decent a non-essential story moment as any, I guess.

I can already think of the funny names people will name the planets. I think it'd be a cool feature, although I already have a tough enough time making names for my characters as is.
