If you could choose a companion like in DAO, what would they say or do?

In DAO, all companions were on the screen together for the player to choose for a quest. Each one had an action or a few words to say. Some had both.

Morrigan would light up her hands. Shale would stomp her foot on the ground. Dog would get up. Sten rolled his shoulders. Alistair would put his arm across his chest and say yes.

What would the DAI companions do?

Would Vivienne say, Good choice, my dear? Would Sera say, Lets go chase some noble? Varric might say while aiming his crossbow at the screen, So? You want me to tell you a story?

Dorian would twirl his moustache, Varric would put Bianca on his shoulder, Sera would roll her eyes and say 'oh all right then', Cass would bow her head with her hand on her heart like Alistair does...and maybe Bull would laugh and say something in Qunari?

It would be even better if they had different sayings and poses if you had high approval.

A quick copy-paste from the What did you do today... thread as promised.  Here's my idea of what they might say, in alphabetical order with a maximum of three words per phrase, as that seems to be the limit in DAO.

Blackwall

In: "Your orders?"

Out: "Bollocks."

Cassandra:

In: "I am ready."

Out: *disgusted noise*

Cole

In: "I can help."

Out: "Oh."

Dorian

In: "At your service."

Out: "Kaffas!"

Iron Bull

In: *in a guttural shout* "Yeah!"

Out: "Your loss, boss."

Sera:

In: "Let's go, yeah?"

Out: "Arsebiscuits!" (or just her blowing a raspberry)

Solas

In: "Of course."

Out: "Dirthara-ma!"

Varric

In: "Sure."

Out: "Sod it."

Vivienne

In: "Certainly, dear."

Out: "Really, darling?"

- Solas would probably give a slight bow say something polite, like "As you wish"

- Dorian would, like ArcadiaGrey said, twirl his mustache and say something self-centered, like "But of course!" or "Perfection it is then!"

- Vivienne would do a pose similar to Morrigan's and say something like "Do you need something, dear?" or simply "Excellent!"

- Varric would arm Bianca and say "One more for the dwarf!"

- Cole is tricky... can't really see him doing much of any movement, and he would probably only say something like "I want to help"

- Sera would do a (possibly rude) gesture and say "Let's get a move on, yeah?"

- Blackwall would probably just take a step forward and simply say "Where to?"

- Cassandra would nod and say "It is done"

- Iron Bull would flex his muscles and say "Yeeeaaahhh!"

I see pre-quest or spirit Cole having his head lowered so his hat hides his face if he's not chosen(effectively "hidden" from sight), while if he is in party slighlty moving up his head so his eyes/face can be seen. Human Cole i dunno

Hard to top YourFunnyUncle's list, but here's a go at it. A bit more wordy.

Blackwall
In: "Give me a target!" (raises sword)
Out: "Don't you trust me?"

Cassandra:
In: "Ready!" (does the plunge sword into ground and kneel Templar thing)
Out: "Maker's Breath!" (cursing tone)

Cole
In: "Who do I help?" (materializes, looks puzzled)
Out: "I don't understand!" (looks puzzled, dematerializes)

Dorian
In: "Of course!" (and, I gotta go with the preening mustache and bow also)
Out: "No need for flair, evidently."

Iron Bull
In: "Ready, boss." (beats his pillowy man-bosoms)
Out: *Growls* "A$$hole."

Sera:
In: "Arrows!" (does an in-place somersault)
Out: *Makes obscene gesture* "Pfft. Whatever."

Solas
In: "Ma nuvenin." (hand over heart)
Out: "By your leave." (eyes flash blue light for a fraction of a second)

Varric
In: "Bianca's excited!" (swings Bianca up over his shoulder)
Out: "Well, shiiiit."

Vivienne
In: "Certainly, my dear." (snaps her fingers and a puff of frost and ice needles appears)
Out: "Oh, aren't you precious?" (insulting tone)

Aww, now you've all reminded me how much I miss those! :pinched: :( So much better than the tarot cards in my opinion, and honestly I also just like to see the whole team together in one shot for once! Like, seriously, we only get to see them all together once (briefly, and without interaction) in the main game (and twice in trailers. Trailers always lie :bandit: )

Edit: And that's not counting the advisors.

^ Oh... not to me. I loved how the tarot changed for pivotal character events. Sure, you could have something with an animation as well -- I certainly wouldn't say, "No," to a romanced Dorian going, "Yes, amatus?" when selected -- but that would be over and done in a flash. I thought that all of the tarot were really well executed and had their own meaning for each person and every event, far beyond what a single line and animation would do.

A valid point, though personally I am just not a fan of the artstyle... like at all. Still, in relation to what you said, I was disappointed that the advisors' cards didn't ever get updated during the story or after their personal quests/romance :(

The DAO system was good, but so are the tarot cards. I think I prefer to see changes to little mechanics like that over games, it keeps things from feeling stale.

I don't mind the Tarot cards but the implementation of the selection screen was clunky. You shouldn't have to scroll to choose. They could've had them arrayed on a table in the style of a reading or something.

I do like the idea of a reactive selection screen that reflects the status of the companions in terms of their relationship with the Inquisitor or the outcome of their personal quests. That could've been done pretty interestingly in a DAO style.

Yeah, as much as I like the tarot cards I prefer they way they did it in DA:O (not DA2 though, that was very boring and not very creative). At the same time I can understand why they wouldn't want to have to spend too much time working on such a small feature of the game, as nice as it is.

I would hate to see the tarot cards go because I considered them so lovely and interesting especially for the reasons you've mentioned. I vastly prefer them over the selection screens of the previous games.

Well, to be honest (and a bit of a s***) seeing the amout of time they DIDN'T spend working on the areas of the game and their side(fetch)quests... i think they could have done this :P

Yeah, they should stick with it. The one positive thing I'll always say about DAI is the art.

But I liked this style even back in DAO/DA2, for the intro and intermission scenes. I'd play a whole game that looked like that if they could do it.

Cassandra - Indeed!

Blackwall - You called.

Dorian - Excellent Choice!

Vivienne - Let's go, my dear.

Varric - Off to adventure!

Sera - (giggle)

Iron Bull - Oh yeah!

Solas - Of course.

Cole - Yes.

Yes exactly! I find it super annoying having to click through the cards to get to Solas or Iron Bull every single time. That said, I wouldn't mind if they went either way. Tarot cards or DAO-style. But if they did do the DAO party screen again, I would like to hear them change their comments upon being added or removed accordingly. I.e. Sera saying; "It's all fun, yeah?" when friends or "Phhhbbbbbbtttttt!" when approval is low. Or Solas saying "Vhenan." when in romance. Stuff like that.

Just never make me use a scrolling mechanic better suited for controllers ever again.
