I bought the Mass Effect 2 PC version.  I cannot install the game.  It fails on disc 2.
I tried everything I've read on the forums from making iso and virtually mounting.  Even manually unpacking all the .rars
I always fail on the disc 2 english.rar file.  Says the file is corrupted.
Has anyone been able to get some support on this issue?  Its apparently not easy to get ahold of Bioware or EA.  Is there some arcane procedure that I cannot find to get a replacment disc or a download if you have already bought the game?  I'd take it back but apparently this is an issue with multiple copies.

The same thing happened on DA: O's disks.  There is some on-disk precaution against disk-copying that keeps some drives from reading every file.  Just as I had to do with Dragon Age, I put the disks into the DVD in a different PC on my LAN, and installed from there.  For most people afflicated by this problem, given the huge Hdds we all have now, just copy the contents of each disk to a folder on your hard disk and use the Autorun.Exre file in the folder to start your install.

Failing that, and if you don't have multiple PCs all over your house the way I do, you can see about begging or borrowing some friend's or relative's external DVD drive.

I think you can download the game when you register it on EA's website.

Oops!  You're right, and my memory failed me just then!  I suppose I've been up in the middle of the night far too long already, so goodnight all!

Try deactivating your virtual drives. Had similar problems as well after finishing 1st disc during installation, something about cannot read data. My problem was solved by simply deactivating the virtual drives

I had the same issue, after 3 tries and not running any applications like surfing the web, it finally installed. ****ing lame because you have to enter the damn code each time.

depending on what type of virtual drive software you use, you dont have to do so. For example if you are using Deamon tools Lite, you can just turn all protection and you wont have to turn it off.

It's not the dvd's or if it is, ALOT of these dvd's are damaged. I bought the collector's edition- exchanged it- bot BRAND NEW IN WRAPPER dvdroms- and got the "missing file" message on the 2nd disc install both times. I have windows vista 32 bit- more than enough ram, top of the line alienware computer. I had this problem too after buying a brand new MASS EFFECT- which I bought after mass effect 2. I thought well, I'll play the old game while waiting to find a fix for the first game. I installed DO-origins NO PROBLEM- just installed DO-awakening NO PROBLEM!!!! I messaged an admin on this site- and had no response. So I guess bioware just does not care that an apparently large percentage of it's customers can't even install their ME games. I originally didn't intend to vent like this- but I just got going and the more I think about how ridiculous it is to have this issue- the angrier I get. I guess I'll try digitally downloading the game, though folks have posted problems with that. If that doesn't work- I guess I'll do the manual thing, but do I really have time to do that? Should I have to take the time to do that after the money I've spent on the damn game? I am really disappointed Bioware has not been more responsive to this issue.

If you want anyone to read that, edit it into intelligibility with appropriate punctuation, particularly paragraph breaks, otherwise, why did you waste the forum's space posting it as a single "wall of text" blob?

This applies to Dragon Age:

"The installation of Dragon Age: Orgins has failed. Unable to find data file, or disk has been removed". SOLVED.

As someone in this forum suggested, one solution is to download the EA Download Manager, install it, and go to the configuration option (at this time, an icon at the right top of the application) and select "Exchange game codes" ("Canjear códigos de juego" in Spanish)

In "my games" section will appear the game to download and to install (and even to play directly from whithin the EA Download Manager)

I hope it helps you.

Now, I'm going to try to install MAss Effect 2, I hope the DVDs won't fail.

The same fault exists with both the DA and ME2 DVDs; it may, for some reason, occur more often to the DA disk version than to ME2.

I had no problem with DA, but could not get ME2 installed; tried every trick recommended by the tech postings (DVD image with Daemon lite; unpacking RAR manually).

Finally got it done with the following steps:

1 - Uninstall every attempt and clean it all out.

2 - Make sure you have updated all the usual suspects -- BIOS, Windows, DirectX, sound drivers, and video drivers

3 - Run Disk Cleanup and delete all temporary files and error files.

4 - Reboot.

5 - Shut down EVERYTHING running in the background, including antivirus and any UAC in Vista. If Antivirus can't be shut down, create exceptions for the ME2 installer and target directory.

6 - Run the installer off the DVD in Administrator mode, and pray.
