New thread because it's about somewhat different topic.
Following things would improve player experience with the Mako from my point of view:
- A properly modelled interior and an optional(!) driver's seat perspective for first-person driving.
Both would improve the immersion by a lot, allowing the player to feel like he's presonally there, in a vehicle driving on whatever exotic space object's surface he's on. A modelled interior would also allow for some good cutscenes inside the vehicle, offering a change of perspective and a good way to showcase some sensor tech like nightvision and thermal vision devices. Instead of just seeing a simple waypoint over the objective, you'd be provided with a bit of additional info about what's in front of the vehicle, allowing a little more immersive experience overall.
- A jukebox inside the Mako! (If there is an interior)
There will be undoubtly players who'd like to listen to how the planets they visit actually sound(if there is athmosphere). Other might prefer to listen to their favourite theme from Captain's Quarters jukebox(I assume it will return, it must!). This would allow players to customize their exploration experience a bit, assumed this wouldn't collide with the developer's vision for the audio side of the game.
This also could provide some room for a joke or two, where your team members decide to ruse you a bit and upload some unusual tunes into the jukebox, like glorious Krogan Space Opera or ancient Elkor poesy ![]()
- A limited autopilot, for when you suddenly decide to explore a cave and come out 10 kms from the entrance point.
Mako should be able to drive around on its own in cases such as named above, to provide a bit more conveniece and to also allow more freedom in designing locations we visit. Skyrim's dungeons, for example, got a little silly over time as their entrances were mostly also the exit point and you as a player felt like going in circles.
Maybe put some sort of an android/robot there, something like Near-Area Search And Rescue Unit(NASARU - sounds nice, eh?) that drives around the Mako in human's absence and has some limited capabilities to assist an injured crew and help with repairs, to make Mako more badass.
An actual robot would also allow for some additional customization: give it a weapon for point defense or improve the repair capabilities or maybe upload a better software for driving etc. The robot could even be an additional element for the storytelling during missions: you leave the MAko and enter some old ruins, suddenly the robot contacts you over radio "Commander, Mako is being attacked by at least 10 hostiles of [...] race, the shields have only 50% capacity left". Or when you come back from some exploring and expect Mako to be in place: "Commander, I am being followed by several supposedly hostile vehicles, they appear to jam my signal for long range communications".
Something like that could nicely add to the gameplay experience.
- Mako should offer the possibility to bring more weapons and also to change your loadouts.
I think this is obvious: Mako can easily store some additional equipment for you to use. Of course, there needs to be a limit to the amount of things you can stuff into there, but surely a couple of additional weapons, some medigel, some greanades etc to replenish your ressources or change your weapon loadout while on a mission on a planet's surface seems just logical.
- The proportions of Mako from outside should be made in a such way, that it would look believable for this vehicle to offer space to 3(or 4, with the robot) passengers.
For example, Mako in ME1 looked too small to host 3 passengers, especially if one of them was a Krogan.
