and holy carp do i suuuuuucccccckkk.

Solid gold/plat player before I stopped, and I was barely keeping up with things on silver.

I was also kindly reminded of one of the reasons I stopped playing.. stupid game crash on checking DLC.

Not even sure why I'm posting this.. since I never really posted on the forums when I did play... meh.

My initial response to this post is / was ... needs more shirt-less public bathroom selfees... but..I clicked on OP's profile... a member since 2011 ...

My advice my friend... start slowly... work your way back into gold.  It's been 2 years since you last played... don't beat your self up.  It will come back to you after investing sometime in getting re-adjusted / re-acclimated to the game......but it will happen... I even advise..in-between you playing multiplayer....go back into single player... Start a brand new Insanity run with a level 1 character......that will help you remember how this game works...as well as rekindle your love for this game. Welcome back to mass effect 3 multiplayer.

I recommend you get back into it the way I did: Novaguard against Platinum Collectors.

I assure you, it works great.

Two-year hiatus sounds pretty bad. Once I took a 4-month break, only to come back and land on a pug lobby where there was a pink Volus spawn-nuking the hell out. That felt like a hearty welcoming.

If I was at the point you're at(op) I would choose my crutches carefully.

I literally cannot see enemies if they aren't outlined by Geth Scanner/Hunter Mode.

In retrospect I'd much rather be tied to the Grenade increase. Sounds much more fun.

Ah well...

C'est la vie...

While hunter mode is nice I never found myself terribly tied to it...

And one crutch I"ll be avoiding is krogan vanguard. Especially v. geth. I recall that kit being so freaking hard to kill outside of syncs.

And yeah.. sure.. i"ll novaguard plat anything... uh huh. sure. That was something i was wary of doing before I left.

And I have no idea what to think of the shirtless selfie thing... that some kind of inside joke?

Regardless... no one needs to see that.

But yeah, taking it slow is the name of the game. I considered bronze for a moment, but with a maxed manifest... that'd be just too much. Hell, on silver it almost seems to much, but then I start losing track of enemies, forgetting where spawns get forced to, etc, etc.

What makes it worse is that this is the last FPS/twitchy style game I played too, so I gotta get back into that rhythm on top of everything.

Spawns don't get forced anywhere anymore. There was a silent update last year that totally broke the spawning mechanics. I swear they now spawn as close to you as possible. If you are standing in a spawn point, they will appear behind you, if you are not, but are facing a spawn point, they will spawn there, where their spawning damage resistance gives them a fighting chance against you.

Also, stick with it. In a few days, you will find that you are even better than before. This seems the norm after taking a break, you suck at first, but then get better than you were before. Like your brain processed everything during your break, and you just need to rebuild your muscle memory to support it.

Just stay away from that SP junk, that will make you quit the game, it is horrible, ruins the experience for me.

This is true.  I switched platforms (PS3 -> PC) too, but I'm getting back into the swing of things.  I can now play on Silver with no problems.  I just wish I had everything unlocked still *shrugs*

Well, I'd say play a tankier character like the turian sentinel, N7 destroyer, krogan soldier etc which are easy to survive with and don't require much of a twitch based effort to make them work. I sometimes have to go around a month or so without getting to touch a controller and when I get back, I'll usually go for a gold match with one of these characters to get into the flow, before trying out the more riskier kits.

You can also try to solo gold and silver to get back the feel of the game. Not a full fledged solo but the way I did it was to try a no equipment, no gear solo and just wipe the first time I'm killed and just try again. What it does is it forces you to get better and you perform better when actually playing with good gear and a 3 player backup, at least in my experience. Takes a bit of time but like Arkhne said, a break actually does make you loads better when you get the hang of the game, so keep at it.

ugh... found a hurdle that i might not be able to overcome. Had a couple games at abotu 30 FPS on this .. crappy laptop. So i'm thinking, good. Playable, I'll just avoid hosting because AI gets stupid at low fps.
Then got a match in dagger, and it was hovering around 10 for goo dbits of it, 20 when i was lucky...

30 is playable... 10 to 20.. not so much.

And taking breaks making you better may be true for shorter breaks, but combine two years with the fact I"m at the age where twitch skills have tapered off...
Still fun though, I'll probably play off and on for a while (unless I find a bunch more maps where i only get 10 fps).

I'm back after a year break as well, I still suck... but I haven't played that much yet, just gotten to around level 18 with only a few matches with the help of a few friends. Otherwise without their help I'd still be stuck at level 5 or something lol. I think that's my advice, get the help of some good players/friends who won't mind if you die a lot and who can help you with platinum or gold and that way you can level up quickly xD

Yep, I'll agree with the guys above about the break. We were discussing this here at home with Arkhne, that I (we both) believe the break of some 3 months, as it was for me, actually worked out for the best.

It does feel like the brain had a chance to process it all, and now I'm better than before. Ok, I'm still not great, but now I've been able to play platinum with the guys, which I wouldn't have even dreamed of, some months earlier. And I feel comfortable on gold even with less tanky characters. So some progress has happened, at least.

It's like when I was training dogs: first you train the basics of some new thing, (and very little progress is made for a while, until you take a break), then take a break for some days/week, and suddenly they just get it after mulling it over. Seems to work the same way for humans. ^_^

I, also, had a year long break from the game.

Biggest pain in the bottom was getting back to/remembering all keyboard tweaks that I made during my spell. Also, there was issue of ammo boxes. Right now, I seem to have issues with missile launcher as it tends to miss or be wrongly timed. I get killstreak most of the time, but missing one is just embarrassing.

But I have to agree with the rest, I feel like a better player now and taking a break had some positive effects.

Sometimes banned forum members start new accounts and start posting cool stories, bro.

One of them was known for shirtless selfies in public bathrooms.

Maybe just post a selfie and we can verify whether you are or are not one - or even - THEBunz.

Teabaggin's ideas are just what i did (though, in bronze too). I just started back after a long break & came back so bad i was embarrassed to show up in lobbies with my high rank & gear. Doing better again! Keep at it & it'll come back quick.

Getting back into it is quite simple:

Pick a flamerless, fully decked in lvl 3 and 4 equipment, claymore wielding GT and own stuff. Workz every time.

Wait, what do you mean there was a silent update? Last I checked all updates stopped with the release of the last DLC, they didn't even fix the bugs because it costs to much money to simultaneously release udpate on the consoles and the whole thing was shut down.

I didn't really notice any change with the spawns, but I remember my friend saying that "Atlases were bugged" where he couldn't one shot them with missiles anymore, but we thought that was probably because I increased their hp trough mods, however it did not happen always. For them to have DR on spawn it would explain a lot. Still, I'm really weirded out by the fact a silent update like this happened. Can anyone confirm?

Btw - welcome back! When I got back, I jumped straight into gold, and the same day back to plat right away. Takes only a few games to get used to, like riding a bike! Nostalgia feels were real, this game is still great. Also, the mp is moddable now, you can search the forums about it and check it out, there's a really cool tool that makes modding super easy and fun, I spent quite a lot of time with it myself and it has pretty much reborn this game for me, with all the things you can change. Feel free to add me too, I'm always looking for some new friends to play together. Have fun!

Top advice tbh.

I only just became aware of Fallout 4 dlcs this morning, I dusted off my PS4 last night to play a little and there they were. Yep, I threw my money at Bethesda, I'm in danger of getting sucked into Fallout again. Cool story sis, yes it is a cool story.

I find Automatron quite ok. Those Robots sure know how to keep a supply line alive, unlike some settlers, that are fully decked in Modified Combat armor.

And thanks to mods, Wasteland Workshop is , with the exception of arenafights, atleast for me redundant. But both still managed to suck me in
