I agree, although they didn't have a bad setup for DAI for races, considering you start the game off as a suspect who they don't trust at first....it makes a lot of sense if that person would be an outsider somehow. Actually, it makes the most amount of sense if that person would have been Hawke, who actually was a fugitive and really would have made a controversial leader.... But anyway... They resolved that issue a little too fast, I think, and you transition to hero straight away. I do like the Dalish Inquistitor, though, thanks to all the elven lore. But you can tell the races were added in late.

 

The race selection was a pretty much a last minute addition because IIRC BioWare stated that the Inquisitor was human only but it was when everybody whined, cried, and bitched about it that they changed it and we got dwarves, elves, and qunari added. While the backstory for the human, dwarf, and qunari made sense being at the conclave made sense, while a dalish Elf Inquisitor makes the least amount of sense of being at the Conclave.

Also, you argue that Hawke isn't supposed to be a hero, but I beg to differ. In-universe, Varric and Cassandra constantly discuss how Hawke became "a legend," and the marketing tried to pass Hawke off as "the most important person in Thedas" or "the hero who changed the fate of Thedas forever!" or something like that, yet what we're shown doesn't live up to the in-universe hype. To me, if you're going to treat a character like The Most Important Person in Thedas, then actually show us something worthy of praise.[/background]

Hawke did change the fate of Thedas... But I still don't think he/she was ever intended to be the classic, chosen one style hero who saves the world, but more of the anti hero variety, who helps unravel the world. The Chantry seems to think Hawke is some sort of anti Christ at first, and Varric sets Cassandra straight, completely reversing her opinion and assumptions.

I see where they were kind of going for a butterfly effect thing, with Hawke unwittingly or not, putting events into motion that lead to a war, the rise of Corypheus, awakening of Fen'Harel, the breach, spread of red lyrium, conflict with the Qunari, and other major changes throughout Thedas.

They probably very likely planned to continue the character too. But in retrospect, I guess Hawke turns into the The Unchosen One, with the arrival of the Inquisitor who becomes the real savior figure Hawke wasn't.

Because there is no money to be made from releasing a "game of the year" edition or even from cutting the price of the DLC. Nobody will buy it. It isn't even worth the effort. I disliked DA2 so much I was happy to leave Hawke in the fade in DA:I lol...

Why wouldn't there be money in it? Obviously it wouldn't be on a disc, but anything a download product pulls in past the cost of its bandwidth is simple profit. (They're paying the server costs whether or not they have a sale.) Although I suppose someone would have to spend five minutes changing the price on Origin.

Just because you wouldn't buy it on sale isn't a reason to conclude that every other gamer in the world wouldn't buy it.

I am pretty sure if EA Bioware thought there was money to be made they would do it.

Look, what's your point? If they thought it would make money they would do it. Hell, if the DLC was cheap enough even I would consider giving it a shot. But EA obviously doesn't agree with you. Give the head of EA a call, I'm sure he would love to speak to you about DA2...

OK, now you're stumbling around the edge of the truth, though I'm not sure it isn't accidental. It's not that they wouldn't make money, it's that it's not enough money to overcome standard bureaucratic inertia. If EA's like the last big corp I worked for, you'd need to have something over 100K in profit attached to a project in order to get it onto the agenda of anybody with the power to authorize the thing -- given their size, EA's number is probably a bit higher.

Another possibility might be that since gamers are such whiny crybabies, EA's not willing to have people complaining that "all EA does is try to milk bad games!" -- we'd say that, you know we would. That might even be rational; the whining would be a real cost to the business, and the profits would be chump change.

Also, selfishly, I personally don't like the direction BioWare was trying to go with DA2--trying to use it as a gateway to make Dragon Age into "Mass Effect with swords" and Hawke into Fantasy Shepard (of the "fixed surname, monospecies protagonist of unspecified gender and profession" variety),

 

Eh, personally, I think that Hawke is vastly superior to Shepard insofar that Hawke doesn't say anything nearly as daft as Shep does, and Hawke is more of a trip, in my opinion.

That's not true. In fact I've repurchased DAI because their was a very good deal for the "game of the year" addition during the holidays. If Bioware/EA made an unlimited edition for Dragon Age 2 by putting all of the DLCs and the main game into a single software.... I would repurchase the game again.

 

I really wish Bioware/EA would learn from Bethesda if they truly want to make a profit.

It's safe to say that I have far better relationship with Bethesda than I do with Bioware/EA.

I think it is safe to say the Keeper had a point about how what would happen at the Conclave might impact the Lavellan clan seeing as it is common knowledge that the Dalish clan harbor apostates and the warfare between mages and templars have already impacted the clan negatively seeing as they had to leave a place at one point because of the conflict spilling into the countryside.  

 

The Dalish player character was specifically sent to bring back news on what outcome was decided upon during the Conclave between the Divine and the feuding factions.    

 

 Basically, I see it as making sense fine.

Eh, personally, I think that Hawke is vastly superior to Shepard insofar that Hawke doesn't say anything nearly as daft as Shep does, and Hawke is more of a trip, in my opinion. 

 

Between Shepard and Hawke, I prefer Hawke especially as they do seem to have more humanizing and introspective moments than Shepard do. That is not to say Shepard do not have humanizing moments at all, merely that I felt they became a bit too far between.  I like Shepard but Hawke felt more human to me because of that.

 

A shame was that from what I know, Shepard was planned to have some more humanizing and introspective moments such as concerning their death and thoughts on the afterlife in Mass Effect 3 but they were never implemented though I believe the dialogue can still be found.

I would pay $15 for a package of ALL of the DLC,,, but ONLY if I could pay with credit card NOT Bioware "Points"

No they didn't.  Hawke knew someone who changed the fate of the Thedas.  But nothing Hawke personally did had implications that went beyond Kirkwall.  Oh...wait.  Except for acting as Flemeth's delivery boy (if Flemeth got killed).

I don't.  The Conclave had security.  That's the Qunari's origin story.  So how is it that an all tatted up elf could walk into the middle of the Conclave when the mercenaries and every participant could look at him and know instantly "The dude was not invited".  That the elf was sent to lurk around the fringes is not that strange.  That the elf walks past everyone and into the personal quarters or whatever of Divine Justinia in time to see her getting murderized is just weird.  I think I'd have to head canon that the elf was wearing concealer.

But to do this they would really need to do it for PC, Xbox and PS3 to be fair. How much work for how much profit? I played on a 360, if it was everything for $15 I probably would buy it. But that's a lot of work and effort for our $30, lol.

I sadly agree with you. At least the point that it's crazy there is no triple edition available for DAO, DA2 and DAI with all DLC's or something. 

 

I have all games and DLC's on xbox 360, PC, and XB1, it would be nice to get editions that are for one platform so moving forward I could have a copy for that. (I only have DAO on pc) 

 

And if it were CE I would totally buy it lol

Not necessarily. Wouldn't it be conceivable for a Dalish Mage to have been taken to a Circle -after- they received their Vallaslin? If someone were to actually ask them what they were doing there they could give them that story. Even a non-mage Dalish could go with that story as I doubt many mages would be using magic in public in such close proximity to the Templars anyway. Or otherwise, perhaps the non-mages pose as a member of one of the attending merc bands? We know Iron Bull's "Dalish". Wouldn't be totally unbelievable if they give that explanation, imo.

 

As for walking in on Justinia. I have a bit more trouble explaining that. But in my head it goes like this: Lavellan is sick of waiting for news that is second-hand at best. During the night they sneak into the temple. Trying to find out more concrete info. In search of said info, they hear Justinia crying out and either their sense of wanting to help a person in need or curiosity brings them to the particular scene of the ritual.

 

I have had a discussion about this where I was on the other side. And after contemplating about this subject, this is what I came up with and am ultimately satisfied with.

 

On topic: I don't know why they haven't given at least the option of buying a digital bundle. Not that I'd buy it as I already have everything. But perhaps it'd be handy for new players who came in with DAI and want to try the first two games as well.

Clan Lavellan was supposed to have had some diplomatic contact with humans anyway, so I mean why not, there were other apostates there, and it makes sense why clan Lavellen would send their First, or one of their best Hunters. Maybe they don't get a vote on Circle/Chantry matters, but they could have been allowed in to speak.

Maybe it took some smooth talk to try to get in, but considering how easily the Inquisitor charms the nobility at the Winter Palace and becomes a figurehead for the Inquisiton itself...they must have had some skill at that sort of thing.

I thought Corypheus interrupted the conclave, not that he intruded upon the Divine in her personal quarters? Thus the Inquisitor, who was somewhere nearby outside the meeting hall, stumbled in when he/she heard the ruckus Corypheus made. As a Dalish, the Inquisitor could have been skulking around, like Solas - and then tossed subterfuge out the window when things went sideways - or they had petitioned to attend even if they couldn't be a part of negotiations and then entered the room when things went sideways. But I don't think the Inquisitor's presence was presented as being in Justinia's quarters, but rather the just-decimated conclave meeting.

I think it depends on how you decide to head cannomn it we all can come up with our own stories for our Inquisitors to fill in the gaps I think as we all do it. Even I do.
