Inquisitor Body Type Varies Upon Race/Armor?

There seems to be a huge difference between playing a female human inquisitor and a female elf. (Beside the obvious of story, romance options, etc). Obviously a female quanri is going to be physically very different from a female elf, dwarf or human.

I'm only mentioning it because my elf inquisitor in apprentice armor looks like a twig... Seriously. It looks like she would be unable to close a rift, without her shoulder popping out of socket, let alone lift her staff without her arm breaking in half. Yet if she wears one of the quanri 'unique' armor she doesn't look as skinny? Am I paying too much attention, is it a bug, or is it on purpose? I just find it odd that her body shape can be completely different, even the strength and thickness of her arms and legs, depending on what armor she is wearing.

Am I the only one to notice this? I only thought about it because the female human inquisitor is quite curvy in the heavy apprentice armor in comparison.

I'm not saying either is good or bad, or commenting or stating that one is preferable or more beautiful. Simply an observation I'm wondering if someone else noticed... Is it dependent upon what type of armor you're wearing?

This is a problem with Elves. They look like they've grown up in the slums of Africa, going days without end with nary a bread crumb to fill them up.

There are some slight variations in body type depending on the armor you're wearing, and not just for elves. Like, Cole and Blackwall have a different body type when in their default armor, but when you put them into the qunari armor they've got the same abs.

That's exactly how I wanted to describe it.  :P But I didn't want to be so blunt about it. I don't understand why Bioware made the elves so damn skinny

Okay. I thought maybe it was a bug depending on the different armors.  :P

I thought it was weird that Solas looks he's spent every second out of the Fade working out!? I'm not complaining, but I did think it was a bit over the top. Mages don't exactly need to be physically strong (as far as I can imagine). Not saying he looks bad   but it is a bit overkill, isn't it?

Ancient elves seem to be taller and stronger than modern ones. Compare Abelas with a Male Lavellan for example. But Solas' outfit is a good example of the body type variations depending on armor/clothing, he looks fine in casual clothes; in the qunari armor you can basically count of all his ribs.

I don't find female elves nearly as bad as male elves. Did anyone try putting Solas in a Antaam-Sar?

Honestly, this is the major reason preventing me from playing an elf. I can't stand the anorexic look. I even installed a body type mod from the nexus, but it doesn't really help. The character still looks like a beanstalk. And yes, I have meshes on ultra, so the mod should show outside of cutscenes.

I did, and I don't think it's that bad. But Solas is a special case, even with elves. The most beautiful armor looks like rags on him. The devs obviously wanted to make a statement.

I would assume if you're immortal you spend a lot of your time reading/studying and working out.  :D But that characters are so drastically physically different depending on what armor you put on... that's actually a bit annoying.  <_<

I'm trying really hard to feel 'involved' in playing a female elf.... but it's extremely difficult. It sounds stupid, I mean it's just their appearance, but why spend so much time customizing your facial look for a game you might spend over 100+ hours playing... only to have their physical appearance change depending on what you put on. This doesn't seem to happen with dwarves, qunari or humans, as far as I can tell, so it's literally only happening if you play as an elf....

Does anyone know if you appear this skinny if you play as a male elf? That would be even more annoying I think. Literally every character in the game would look like they can get things done and the inquisitor would look like he would fall over in strong wind.

Actually Solas and Sera use different body models than elf PCs. PCs are more skinny than those two.

Really? I thought male elves looked even skinnier than female elves. I don't even mind the skinny look, I just wish there was a choice. I really like Seras body-type (is it just the human model?  She seems lankier than humans but not too thin). It would be nice if the player was able to chose the body type along with the face and voice. There were a lot of "tall" elves in the game. Sera's tall, I think Solas also doesn't have the typical elf body (though I don't know) and the knight-enachanter-trainer elf was also huge. My elf inquistor looks extra tiny because of that.

I'd love to play an Inquisitor with a beer belly :D

But I suppose adding different body types is too complicated regarding game mechanics or something...

My male elf inquisitor looks pretty wimpy, especially in his skyhold pyjamas.
The legs are ok but the upper body, especially the arms and the shoulder-chest-area look disproportionally small.
Though I think he looks ok in armor with lots of shoulder padding :D

It's not only elves that change body appearance with certain armours. They are just the most obvious. "The Skin That XXXX" armours from Trespasser spring to mind as messing about with most races' look. I remember my male human mage looking considerably less muscled, for example.

Well at least the legs look normal and it's not bad in armor. Female elves have twig legs as well as twig arms... It really does look disproportionate compared to the other races. And sadly most armor I put on doesn't help, at all. But I'm still in the 'beginning' part of the game of my 2nd play through.
Although to be honest, I think I'm going to re-make a human noble now so I can romance Cullen or Blackwall.... Solas

Yeah, qunari also look quite different with that armor. But imo, the worst offender is Shokra-taar on Varric. Not because his body changes, but that lack of chest hair

Yes, it does depend on the armor you're wearing.

An easy example. Starting off as an elf male... that very beginning armor doesn't have the bowed spindly arms appearance. It actually kinda reminds me a lot of just the regular human build. Check it out if you want. There are other armors (and the alternates to the beige pajama's) that mitigate the spindly arms. One that comes to mind is the Inquisitor armor you can get at the end of Jaws of Hakkon.

Sera's body type is OK. The PC body isn't. Bluntly put already in this thread, I don't want to play a character looking like having food disorder.

to be fair you are playing a dalish elf and dalish elves as we know live in the wild which is not easy. They feed off what they can scrounge up as they have to rely on the clan's hunters/scouts to get their food for them. So to me that's the main reason why they don't look as fit as a normal human or perhaps city elf  would or so.

DLC armors are the worst offenders.

That's not really an argument, since American natives, just to give one example, never looked that way. The hunter gatherer populations did just fine, hard winters aside.

I think Sera's body type is just the human female body type. I remember someone on the fourms saying that's the non-story reason for why Sera can only wear human armours.

I did my second play-through with a female elf and I didn't mind her body type as much as my male elf inquisitor’s because at least it’s proportional. The legs are skinny and the arms are skinny. But elven men look like some frankenstein experiment with an elven upper body sewed onto a human lower body. Maybe think this way because I have screwed beauty standards for men and women and think it’s ok for women to be stick-thin … :D

I don't think it's that bad anyway. Just would have been nice to have a choice. It’s not a major factor in the overall game experience for me.

By the way, Qunari armor really helps with female elves. The Shokra-taar gave my female Inquisitor abs. So if you have the DLC you can use that early in the game.

Why do you have to remake a human to romance Blawall or Cullen? I thought they were both romanceable for female elves and humans...
