Would you like stuff like this in Andromeda?

https://www.youtube....h?v=xyGf9fhJ5uI

Like in Resident Evil 6 you have different types of melee kills when you stun an enemy.

Stuff like a roundhouse kick, neck snap, or for Krogan picking them up and throwing them. Obviously they would only work on trooper level enemies.

Even a chance to reverse an enemies melee, such as a Phantom sync kill, with a sync kill of your own if you are quick enough to reverse on time.

Even reviving downed team mates should have an animation instead of crouching down and watching a circle go round.

Yeah I've always loved the Resident Evil games and how they handled such things. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing MEA get some of that implemented.

I'm not sure. Besides neck snapping, melee attacks in Resident Evil are generally to keep the enemy away. Push them back. Knock them down.

In Mass Effect, a game where the vast majority of enemies shoot back at you, melee is going to be underused. What they have right now works. I see no reason why they should alter it.

However, execution like kills would be awesome.

I don't expect complex melee combat mechanics, but it would be cool if some classes (those who tend to be played CQC) get bonuses (or even special animations as was suggested by OP) to such attacks.

It would certainly improve my playstyle (as my favourite class is Vanguard). Headshot after charging is fine, but there's nothing more embarrassing for a guy with a gun than being punched to death.

Soldiers today are equipped with long range weapons. So are the future soldiers and mercenaries. Yet, here we are using the visceral melee kills. It's like why bother bringing a rifle / shotgun when a sword or knife is better?

I'd rather keep my distance when killing the enemy rather than being killed by super bad breath from an alien.

Pushing on melee combat or on its spectacularity, while you have a setting where there are the most advanced weapons that allow you to kill an enemy swiftly and from great distances - or from reasonable distances that keep you comfortable - means to sacrifice credibility in favor of a sci-fi circus. You might have entertainment but you will inevitably have stupid clowns around.

I'm still partial to the "finishing kick" in the Uncharted games. Shoot 'em up, run up to them and kick them in the head.

I've always wanted to pick a Phantom up by it's ankle and swing it around, smashing it on the floor/walls/throwing them into or off stuff (bridge, freeway, chemical vat or combination of.) and a Vorcha could do a lot of things with those teeth.

I want the variety of RE on MEA, but i don't know if the QTE style would be better than what we have in ME3. For example: in Resident Evil you shoot the head of the zombie and it staggers him opening the opportunity to melee. In Mass Effect the enemies have a lot of health and don't act like this when they get shot, we just go to them and omni blade their asses. But execution kills when the enemy health is low would be awesome!

And that would be metal af.

I would like something similar for the mele action and maybe some different ones depending what weapon you use.

I loved some of the finishing in DAO.

Close combat weapons ftw. Nothing like the pleasure of crushing your enemy with your bare hands.

Give me one war axe and a large collapsible warhammer.

Hand to Hand combat is always going to be around. It's never going away. Ever. You should try martial arts. Your ignorance will fade.

More martial art techniques. Soldiers train in combatives. It's more important than people realize. Shepard and Thane fought like badasses. I want to see more of that in our new protagonist. Better choreographers and animation hopefully.

on the flip side, an aware gunman most of the time, will have the advantage of range.

Shields are better at stopping small fast objects than big slow ones, even if the total energy is the same, so the grain of sand sized bullets ME guns fire are not going to be as much of a threat relative to the defenses as a modern bullet is to a modern soldier.

Fists don't get stopped by shields though, and having a superheated blade to cut through armor means getting hit is a really bad day for you while your bullets deflect.

And getting hit by a one ton angry krogan is going to pulp your organs, armor or not.

I don't expect or desire anything more than the class specific heavy melees of ME3. We'll be in gun fights so I don't think we need more flashy melee kills.

Martial arts? Hm... as I look in my closet and see my GI.

Reminds me of a Green Beret friend of mine that had the experience of hand combat in 'Nam. That's one reason why vets don't talk to noobs about their experience.

Besides, in a sci-fi setting, everyone has long range and/or  AoE weapons. Mano a mano is just a brawl in a bar.

Not everyone....there's The operative.

Star Wars and their vibroswords, light sabers, staffs, etc

Gotta run out of ammo and some point. Both sides. Although ME3 loved it's infinite ammo.

0:38 in the vid, the impaling in the rifle, that would work so work with stuff like Shotgun omni blade attachment.

I don't think that the melee moves should take over the guns, I just think in some cases if you're low on ammo and you need to conserve some, then having a kick ass melee move to take down the enemy would go a long way in helping to do that.

While Mass Effect 3 isn't exactly the best example due to the amount of spare ammo clips an ammo upgrades, I was thinking more along the lines of ME 2, weapons such as the Mattock and Phalanx ran out of ammo quickly, and having melee moves like these would have helped.

I'd rather keep my distance when killing the enemy rather than being killed by super bad breath from an alien.

Soldiers today also can't turn themselves into a biotic ball and fling themselves at the enemy.

Besides, even in ME3 MP where melee got considerably stronger than it was in SP people were still using guns. You don't have to worry about an omni-blade rendering your Sniper Rifle or Shotgun irrelevant.

Mimicing real life should never be the primary goal of a video game that is not a simulation game. Giving classes like the Vanguard a viable melee build adds to overall variety and by extension replayability of the game, which is a good thing.
