Allright... I see that most people want the game to look cool and the fights to be fun. I agree, but for me the story and the characters more important. ME is a roleplaying game for me. That's the reason why I played the trilogy. I was quite confused after reading that bioware thinks about naming MEA different for promotion and hope that their focus is still on the story and characters. I loved the possibilities to react in dialogues by hitting/shooting someone etc. though and missed that in DAI. I hope that they implement it in MEA again!!!

How bout this. Ryder saved a colony but lost valuable tech. A squadmember, colonist, or crewman doesn't agree. A fight scene erupts and Ryder throws him to the ground and knocks him out. You got fighting, character quarrel, and plot. What I'm saying is that not everyone has to be friends from the get go. Do a few loyalty missions and get to know a person. Maybe Ryder fights this new turian squad member. He later earns his respect and becomes friends but doesn't act like he's a pushover.Allright... I'm not sure. Besides neck snapping, melee attacks in Resident Evil are generally to keep the enemy away. Push them back. Knock them down.
In Mass Effect, a game where the vast majority of enemies shoot back at you, melee is going to be underused. What they have right now works. I see no reason why they should alter it.
However, execution like kills would be awesome.
It's a video game. People don't care if a shooter is designed to be played by shooting people from a distance, people will do melee builds if the melee isn't horrifically undertuned to the point of uselessness. It happened in ME3 with the high popularity of charging Vanguards and practically every krogan character in MP, it happens in Halo if you pick up a melee weapon, and it happens in Call of Duty (from Modern Warfare 2 up to Advanced Warfare, anyway, I haven't played Black Ops 3 so I'm not sure if building for melee is possible there) if you equip a tactical knife with your sidearm and choose the appropriate perks. Some shooters are outright embracing melee combat and making it a core feature to be used like everything else, like Overwatch with Reinhardt who swings a massive hammer and has no guns, or Dirty Bomb with Phantom who cloaks and does 90% of his fighting with a sword.

I'm certainly guilty enough of that. My husband and I play borderlands 2 (and presequel) when we're feeling co-opy, and my general motto is EVERY CLASS IS A MELEE CLASS. Somehow, it's more satisfying. There's also a possibility I'm terrible at aiming on a console, but that's clearly lies and hearsay.
What I'm saying is that if vanguard's not back, I'm going to cry a little. By 3, Shepard was a force of cyborg zombie biotic facepunchies, and that pleased me.

Yeah, Borderlands is another one. The first game has Brick, 2 has Zer0 and Krieg (Melee Krieg is best and only Krieg), and the Pre-Sequel has Athena who all have super strong melee builds.
