No, I was happy as well. I hate wearing dresses. If they tried to force a dress on us, I'd've made the Bog Unicorn go in my place.

Now I'm stuck with image of Bog Unicorn in dress dancing with War Nug in formal attire.

Quality of formal attire aside, I sometimes feel like I'm the only one who's happy that femQuizzy wasn't forced into dress

Of course being able to pick what you want to wear would be the best.

I'm happy my Quizzy wasn't forced to wear a dress, but I'm unhappy that she was forced to wear and ugly red outfit that doesn't suit Thedas.

Thank the Creators for mods.  Now she has a pretty, Dalish retexture of the wedding dress* and her companions are in dalish-inspired formal wear.

*I may change it to the DAMP Keeper Robe replacer.  But at the moment I'm happy with the dress.

That's why I said quality aside. I had only 2(?) Quizzies that looked decent in it. And I do everything to forget how dwarf ladies look in it

It looked so terrible on my Lavellan.  I'm yet to see it on an Adaar.  Trevelyan looked okay, but it's clear that the outfit was desgined with a male Trevelyan in mind (all my Inkies are women).  I'm so happy for all the rextures that exist.

I was agreeing with - we should've got the choice for what we wanted to wear to the ball.

Mine are all women as well.

Yeah, it looks the best on humans. Then elves (despite how strange they look in it, at least it fits them). Qunari and dwarves got it the worst (that neck area o.O).

Probably the biggest fashion crime for the ball is That Hat that Solas wears.

Don't even get me started on that face shrapnel. Praise be to the eggs without hats mod.

You are most definitely not alone. Do I wish the default formal attire had been better designed? I certainly do. But I am quite happy that the female Inquisitors were not forced into a dress.

We haven't heard back from the OP... I'd like to know if they got everything worked out and attended the ball in a smashing gown.

That is on my required mods list.

Speaking of good mods for the Ball:  Dress Up - Dress Down.  The Dress Up file changes all the Orlasian fashion into much fancier clothing, and the Dress Down file gives it a more casual (but still Orlasian) twist.  It's a good mod for people who don't mind having multiple mod patch files for each game (which I tend to, so I can have different looks at different points, and give Blackwall a post-quest shave)

Not ugly in itself. Just something coming straight from the circus. Or from some highschool parade. And unisex. As with the animations. Josies skyhold outfit is actually more elegant than that. As is Vivienne's. Even Leiliana would have looked better in her PJs than what Bioware provided for the reception.

Ridiculous might be the better word than ugly.

It really bothered me too. I actually found it rather insulting to assume women wanted to dress like men, or that men and women like unisex clothing. It was especially inappropriate given Orlesian culture IMO. At minimum they should have given the female characters the choice to wear the bell hop RCMP outfit, or an evening gown. When in Rome Bioware....

I wouldn't mind a nice dress for that palace but I would not have been upset if the outfit with pants was actually better. NICER is my point- nicer texture- style whatever. The outfit was not impressive IMO. Cullen was the only one that could do that outfit justice

I felt like I was wearing a crappy uniform.

From a19th century Huszar, as it is. Or from the circus rack. Nothing that fits the general feel and environment.

Um... that's not where it comes from, you know. The Formal Attire is a blatant ripoff of certain UK dress uniforms; see, for instance, Prince William's wedding photos. If it resembles other outfits, that's because they're ripping off the same source.

I get not liking a 19th-century dress uniform in the context, though DA's so chock-full of anachronisms that I don't see any point in making a fuss over this one. But why project other weird stuff onto it?

I'd like have different outfits to choose from when it comes to the winter ball. Either a dress, uniform, a nice shirt and pants, something like that.

Which originally came from Hungary and it's Huszars. I know, the british and the French had their Huszars too in the 19th century, but it's a Hungarin word, meaning 20 man. The strength of 20 men. So, it's not really a british dress uniform, just something they got inspired to use for their own purpose.

And the Hungarians in turn took it from Croatia.

Well I just looked up the uniforms and wow the DAI palace one certainly looks precisely like the British Royal family wears.

Problem is female quiz did not have the shoulders to do the uniform justice, particularly my elf female Levellan

Abaris- I am not doubting you are correct about the origin of the uniform design whatsoever. I'm merely pointing out the outfit does not suit all body types and that is why I felt like the outfit for the Palace scene sucked. That is all.

And P.S. the British Royal family wears this *now* so that's why it was easy to find.

Yes, as I said, it does neither fit the environment nor the general feel of the game and it's fashion. And, as I said, I was instantly reminded of the circus, because that's where uniforms like that are usually found in our time.

I think a choice was considered at one point, but that probably got thrown out when the race choice came back.  If we'd had a human PC only we probably would've got more opinions in everything.

Doesn't hold water since there are quite a few mods out there taking care of the ridiculous uniforms. I've loaded them and never looked back.

Interesting historical trivia, but what's your point? Bio wasn't copying the Hussars, or the Croatians, or anybody but the Brits. And it's not like the Croatians made up that outfit from nothing; we look into that and we'll find another antecedent, and so on back into the past or until the historical record runs out. I'm not even sure what's left that's specific to hussar uniforms, except for all the gold braid. Bright colors were used by everybody in the period.

Hey, how come you went immediately to "circus" instead of thinking "Prince William" or "hussar"? When I see someone in a top hat, "ringmaster" is pretty far down on the list of possible i terpretations. I suppose I might go with "magician" if the setting was past 1940, weddings excepted.
