Regardless of origin - - i get the feeling it was not intended in British, Croatian or any other culture, for women to wear that style of dress uniform to a Ball. Men - for sure... women not so much!

On a perhaps related note seeing Florentine (or whatever her name was) wearing a beautiful ball gown , with a punk (male-ish) hairdo from the 21 century - was extraordinarily jarring to me...

Course not. But that's what I instantly thought of before looking for a mod.

This was one of my biggest annoyances in the game. Second to a lack of nice (imo) hairstyles.

I just can't find a way to justify the outfit. i don't care if it is military formal or whatever they wanted to call it. it made no sense for any one of your companions or advisors to show up in that outfit, aside from maybe Cullen, and that's a big maybe. I also understand that not everyone would want to show up in a dress or be forced into one, but having the choice of wearing that atrocious outfit or a ballgown would have been a nice addition to a different type of story mission that wasn't just all about killing stuff.

Doesn't hold water since there are quite a few mods out there taking care of the ridiculous uniforms. I've loaded them and never looked back.

Modders work for free and without any time limits.  BW are budgeted for everything.  It's the same reason why there's gated romances, or no body types.

There's nothing meshy involved. Not even textures. They just made the fitting ingame outfits accessable. Which isn't much of an effort.

You do realize that having all outfits available doesn't mean they'll automatically work well with all animations?

But yet they do, without them having changed the animations. Specifically they made the wedding dress for Trespasser wearable (you have to have the DLC, of course) and the skyhold PJs.

You mean they work? Or they work well? I never questioned them working, but there are outfits that definitely not work well with certain animations. And I can think of quite a few moments - for example in Skyhold - where dress would be... problematic.

Well, maybe clipping isn't as big of an issue for you as it is for me.

Sure, but Andrastian society isn't much like our 19th century in this aspect. Or even like our 21st.

It looks like we're all in the same marching band!  :D I was going to try and use mods but I just can't be bothered. I heard if you destroy the formal attire, it goes back to the usual 'default' one. Which I guess is the one you prance around in at Skyhold?

I don't mind a dress.. as long as it isn't the same/a kin to the one FemShep is wearing ;( that one is just 'eewwww.....

+1 to the posters who mentions an option button: dress or military formal wear.
That way, if the gown still looks kinda hideous, then I'll settle with the uniform :D

The uniform as it is, is hideous. It's not the circus director coming to present their newest sensations, it's thei inquisitor at a reception.

You can wear a dress at Halamshiral, but it takes a bit of tinkering, and it might be more trouble than it's worth for a first time mod user. But if you really want to wear one, the method is there. Once you get mods working, read the instructions on this mod and follow them. This method will be compatible with any of the wedding dress retextures (search on the DAI Nexus for "dress"), so just pick one you like and go.

yeah that's why I don't bother using some mods as some can be too much work. Most of the DAI mods like the hairstyles tend to go in nice and easy though which I'm pleased about. That's why I don't have any for the ME trilogy as I tried playing around and rtying to get them to ework but could never get it to come together so gave up in the end. Fortunately with the DA games though I've not had any problems.

Why? All it took was letting DA mode manager do it's job and a bit of wiating for it to be finished. That was about all the tinkering it needed.

I have tried to find anything and everything about modding DAI, but I've had no luck. I manage to find one website, that seems to be the main one but for some reason I can't find any information how to mod the game, etc. And it seems like it requires a subscription. I've spent enough money on all of Bioware's RPG's as it is, thank you very much.

My main reason for trying to mod DAI is for the

Spoiler
quest to change my formal attire. I was beyond annoyed that the DAI companions you bring/Advisors are all dressed in the same uni-sex unflattering formal attire!

It's a bloody ball! Why are all the women around me (with the exception of companions/Advisors) allowed to wear fancy beautiful dresses and masks, except me? I'm a bloody human noble for heaven's sake! And the Inquisitor!  -_- I want a dress!  :(

Also Vivienne talks about her dressmaker? Or whatever, but I can't find the shop and it doesn't seem to change your formal wear? Is this shop even real? Or is it just something she mentions in a conversation for the sake of it?

While I wouldn't want a dress (hate those things, even when women wear them because they aren't practical and - even if I were a women - I wouldn't wear one to a ball were I might be killed (it's an Orlesian ball after all!) or at least attacked (fighting in a dress is not cool or practical!)), I also hate the formal attire...damned give me a leather hunting-costume or something similar (something practical yet flatering when I play a female character! Not that "uniform" -.-)

greetings LAX
