it could be that enough of the reaper was chucked off to form a becon (lot of their structure is made from nanaites after all) and the main reason for launching to andromeda is to investigate the reaper signal detected from there, the reaper was killed several million years previous and in theory it would of been possible for the chunk to travel there at near light speeds (generated from the mass effect rail gun used to shoot the reaper) the chunk of reaper could of made planet fall reformed into a working beacon and emitted the signal pulse,

that ties in the reason for charging head long with a military unit into an uncharted galaxy (probably on a one way mission) because should the reapers be outside the milkyway they would have to be found and killed ASAP, certainly that would tie the two halves of the franchise together and yet leave them separate enough that MEA could follow a totally different script and still be set several hundred years after the events of ME3 ...

but that's more back story than anything else and less important to the game than actually being playable with cool funky moves and jump packs and stuff.... we also would be needing a sleek new ship and cool androids like EDI on hand to help out preferably with a multi race crew and lots of big guns, not to mention a griping storyline for the explorers  to follow and hopefully funky new aliens to meet and make friends with along with of course some serious enemies :)

But how? How would we detect a reaper signal from anywhere, let alone another Galaxy? Those odds are even slimmer than the OP
