Hello Kingdom Holders-

Ive played all the DA and love all of them. I dont rush, I go as slow as I can, taking in all I can, in terms of playstyle. But wow, DAI is so deep, Im struggling a bit. I mean, Im glad its deep and layered, but as noted, don't get some things.

FYI: My Inq is an Elf and Im currently level 12. Yeah I know, late to the game. Just got done with XCOM 2, so picked up this game again.

#1- All the good crafted armor is for human only, WT heck? How do I craft good Elven armor?

#2- Rune. I have 6 fire essence and I have the fire rune recipe but, it shows as not enough materials to craft a fire rune?

#3- Staff. My main is a mage. Kinda like the armor, I feel very gimped on crafting good staffs. I can only do two runes, corrupting and one other one. Dont have those ingredients. I think one is red lyrium. How to craft a good staff at level 12?

#4- Dagna. Dont get her purpose. Did all the initial masterworks quests, but now, I can ask to craft something but nothing happens. Does she serve a purpose now?

Ive read a ton of crafting sites, or rather posts, and it sounds simple. But obviously, Im in the DAI Crafting For Dummies crowd, cause Im not getting something.

Your wisdom, links and advice most appreciated-

Karook

1. You get schematics throughout the game, if you've been saving up a good chunk of money check out the black emporium. Hrrm, I recall only quanri have armor restriction problems . Like 90% of armor named armor is human, dwarf, elf so you should be good. Double check, I can't think of any thing worth using that excludes elf. What armor exactly are u seeing that excludes elf ?

2.OK, from what I recall this is how it goes down, u need a blank runestone as like the "base". They can be purchased cheap and in unlimited amounts from various vendors . Google it on dragon age wiki. I'm pretty sure they're sold in skyhold.

3. Never played a squish ever really in any DA game :/ so if u do t get any answers u can run with this thread to the bank. http://forum.bioware.../#entry20197210
Better schematics let use use more materials when crafting therefore giving u higher stats . Keep in mind that schematics come in tiers, t1 lowest, t2 , than t3 is the highest

4. On my very first playthru I had the same WTF moment. Once u get her, just craft as normal. All acquiring her does is unlock the master craft slot in the regular crafting menu . I on occasion talk to her cuz I think she has sexy voice . Is that weird lol ? Can't be the only one who likes her laugh

5.Just in case , this is crafting g for dummies section . I'm at work so I can't give u exact examples but this is off top of head. OK. Let's say. A tier 1 staff has offense slot let's u use 4 crafting materials . Say u have in inventory 4 cloths, OK in the tool tip it will tell what using that cloth in offensive slot give u. Say for example is 2% attack. 4 * 2 = 8% attack. Keep in mind that's a t1 schematic. A tier 3 schematic will let u use 16 cloths . So , basically higher tier better pwnage o ya, keep in mind that crafting materials like cloth, ore, and leather have tiers as well. Tier 1-3. T1 might give u 1% attack where a t2 material might give u 2% attack and say a t3 material will give u 2.5. Attack.

The dwarf in redcliff sells schematics for armor and weapons too. The woman at skyhold sells the blank runestones.

#1- All the good crafted armor is for human only, WT heck? How do I craft good Elven armor?

The only light armor I can think of which an elf mage can't wear is the Orlesian Battlemage set. OTOH, the Keeper Robes are only for elf-trained mages, so it balances out.

Don't sweat the rune thing. Runes are not very important, since their damage only adds to basic attacks, not activated abilities like Immolate or Lightning Bolt.

Your problem with not being able to craft one is probably not having any blank runestones. The crafting interface should tell you that they're missing. Bonny Sims sells them in Skyhold if you recruited her. If not, they're available in Val Royeaux, and at just about any merchant outside of Skyhold or the Hinterlands. To get more red lyrium, you need to defeat Red Templar-type enemies

Dagna's involved in some war table actions, and she has a role in a sidequest if you side with the mages, IIRC.

Hey Everybody!

Thanks for the feedback.

#1- Ok, so crafting, yes- Alan, it was the Battlemage armor (the only decent armor I can craft at this point) that has the limitation. Where would I get the schematic Keeper Robes, then?

#2- I have found the bump in base or elemental damage to be a big deal, I certainly don't want to blow past the base damage. I do have the blank rune, but I can only make a cold rune. Thats why Im confused because, for example, the fire rune say blank runestone + 5 fire essence and I have 6 fire essence! So I should be able to make a fire and cold, cause I have the mats for both. Anyone else run into this?

#3- Dagna - ok, thanks. Its weird that she still has a crafting option on her wheel, then. Ruegar- if Dagna floats your boat, more power to ya! Thats the fun of RPG. I was obsessed Morigan in the last one. But I couldn't get pas the name "Dagna" no matter how sexy the voice is! Its sounds a loud trombone going off in the middle of a Shakespeare play. "Oh how I love Thee, DAGNA". - lol

#4- Sandi- I shall endeavor to travel to Redcliff. Any insights on some good locations for schematics specific to mages? I noticed an INQ perk that allows me to reverse engineer schematics but Im torn, cause I messed up and have 3 more boxes before I can get deft hands. ALL THESE DOORS I CANT OPEN!! It drives me a little crazy.

*Deep Bow

You help is, as always, greatly appreciated-

K

You have to kill one of the high level dragons in Emprise Du Lion to get that schematic, so best look elsewhere for the time being. http://dragonage.wik...rmor_Schematics

I think you're confusing the numbers here, fire rune takes six fire essences and you might only have five.

A few more Dummies Guide suggestions.

Open Emprise du Lion as as soon as you have the Power to do so. Very near the entrance camp is a Snoufleur farm (frozen Elfsblood river). It has two high level Rifts in the same area, though, so either steer clear of them or load for bear and take them out. You can farm Snoufleur all day long in that area, they respawn about every 60 seconds.

Why is Snoufleur useful? It's one of the magical materials that removes the class restriction on armor schematics. It will allow your mage to wear rogue armor, which generally is better than mage armor. Snoufleur is also a Tier 3 material and gives high stat bonuses, relatively speaking. It's also a nice color, one of the better looking leather tints. And finally, it's valuable. With the right Connections perks, you can mint a mountain of gold just by farming Snoufleur. People have claimed rates of something like 20k gold/hour.

There are other magical materials that remove class restrictions, but Snoufleur is by far the easiest to farm.

For staves at level 12, you should be able to get one or more of the following. Look up each in the Wiki for location info.

http://dragonage.wik...apon_schematics

Staff of the Dragon Schematic (if you bought the gear DLC, you get this as a special delivery)

Magister Staff Schematic

Archmage Staff Schematic

Wrath of Lovias Schematic

The last one is the ultimate staff you should shoot for, prior to doing any of the DLC. Once you complete any of JoH, Descent or Trespasser, you'll get much better staff schematics.

IMPORTANT: As soon as you get a schematic, of any type, run, do not walk, back to the Undercroft in Skyhold and sync with the Golden Nug (stand next to it an interact with it). That will enable you to have the schematic at any time in any future play through. If you worked hard to get a schematic, either by completing a difficult quest or paying a ton of gold, the GN will save you from having to do that again.

Holy Papa!

I didnt even know there was a Golden Nug! Glad they kept them. Wow, had no idea about any of the other stuff you wrote. Super great info. This will help.

Much thanks

Note that some of those suggestions might be game-breakingly good, depending on your skill level and difficulty settings.

I'll never use the Nug myself, for instance. I'd just have to handicap myself in some way or not use any of the high-tier schematics.

I debated whether or not to post this, but what the heck. It's common knowledge.

There is an exploit for the Golden Nug. You can "buy" schematics for free. Since the Golden Nug stores your schematics "in the cloud", it ignores your save games. So you can abuse that.

Suppose you spend a couple of hours farming gold. Now you have 40k gold and you want to buy some expensive Black Emporium schematics.

Start from the Undercroft.

Make a full save.

Fast Travel to the Black Emporium.

Spend your gold on schematics.

Fast Travel back to the Undercroft.

Sync to the Golden Nug. Now your newly bought schematics are stored in the cloud.

Reload to your original save. You'll be back in the Undercroft with your 40k of unspent gold.

Sync to the Golden Nug.

Voila, you now have the schematics you bought from the BE with all that gold, without spending a penny.

This is exactly the sort of thing I was talking about.

Note that Emprise du Lion also has tons of tier 3 metal, which would be useful for plenty of stuff, including staff damage. Though I'm not sure how much of it you can get to without hitting fairly tough fights.

I appreciate all the insights and tips!

I don't use exploits but absolutely do not fault those that do, every playstyle is different. I will use an exploit when I bump into bad game design, which for me, has never happened in DA game, Ive enjoyed all of them. I do wish XCom 2 had a cloud. I would definitely use it in that case, because it was not the act of leveling those elite soldiers that was fun, it was taking those elites into all manner of mayhem. Tough game.

Well, its about to storm here in Texas, my fav when playing thise types of games. Still trying to find where to farm red lyrium at my level. After that, in world I got.

I leave you with The Song Of Roland

To arms, to arms! my jolly grenadiers!
Hark, how the drums do roll it along!
To horse, to horse, with valiant good cheer;
We'll meet our proud foe, before it is long.
Let not your courage fail you:
      Be valiant, stout and bold;
And it will soon avail you,
      My loyal hearts of gold.
Huzzah, my valiant countrymen! — again I say huzzah!
'Tis nobly done — the day's our own — huzzah, huzzah!

Regular red lyrium (not Intense nor Pure) is a bit difficult to farm. It mostly comes from Therinfal Redoubt when you do the Champions of the Just quest, but you might be able to get some from the Storm Coast. You have to find respawning random Red Templar Horrors that are low level. The RT Horrors in Emerald Graves, Exalted Plains, Emprise du Lion and Hissing Wastes are all high level. I don't think there are any RT Horrors in Hinterlands, Fallow Mire, Western Approach nor Crestwood.

Edit: Hmmm, actually, there are some in the Hinterlands ... after you clear the East Road Bandits and capture Dusklight Camp. Then low level RTs spawn in the area. That's your best bet.

Personally, Emprise was my favourite area in the game. Rushing there at level 10 on each playthrough made for some challenging fights, with meaningful rewards that felt well earned.

The Hissing Wastes also house great schematics for armour such as the superior prowler stuff, BiS for DPS warriors or rogues. (Also pretty damn good for DPS mages, though it's overshadowed by the skin that stalks if you have JoH materials).

Thanks! Just got done with the main Crestwood chain and dropped my first dragon. The best part of the dragon was Varic yelling out, a good ways from the dragon, "she's seen us" only to see the beast lift off and head our way. Nice touch. Long fight, not too tough. A few tricky moments, but everybody lived. Ok loot.

I shall wander around the suggested areas.

A powerful and rather easy staff to get is Tyrrda staff, more than 100 dps fire minimum lvl 11 to use and you will use it for long, that just requires to discover and claim the eight landmarks with Tyrrda story. They are all in the hinterland and not in the dragon area, the only risk is a big bear near forest camp but nothing compared to those in the Emprise

Once you have all eight landmarks you will see an operation at the war table that will give you the staff

About dragons the best line IMHO is Dorian's: a dragon, a nice way to ruin our day

I am a die hard mage player and, I love glass cannon mage builds - all offense and power, no defense. Yes that means I run no barrier on a mage. I do take the skill on my KE mages, need it here and there with them.

The armor gets better for Elven mages in Exalted Plains, once you can buy form the Dalish clan, you can get something decent for your mage. Patience, level 12 is still squishy and, you aren't a cannon yet, by 15, the cannon really starts to kick in, and by 17, well cake walk form there on out, if you know how to work a good glass cannon.

Im a KE on my first pass, Im level 16 and I regret going KE (although I liked how that played in the last DA), but yes- he's usually fine. Im not a glass cannon as much as a CC/DPS hybrid that in a pinch, mainly dragon battles, can go KE. Funny thing about barriers is I really didnt get how they worked so I rarely used them. Now, keep me and Varic in one, helps. Good sentiment on your signature, BTW (DarkA)
