Yeah I know but it could've been like an accessory like a cane or a control rod or something like that. Totally doable with some good writing Imo.
That's also very contrived. And it's Sci-Fi, I don't see why we need classic fantasy imagery.

The same can be said of light sabers. The question is, why not?

Yes, but Star Wars doesn't even pretend that it's not a fantasy setting.

Star Wars isn't sci-fi. It's fantasy in a sci-fi setting. And if "why not?" were a valid design philosophy then Dragon Age would have T-Rex's fighting yeti's and Zack Snyder would be directing everything.

I can imagine my character running into a bad situation trying to look like a badass, only for his cloak to get caught on a door handle and yank him back in a most ungainly manner. ![]()
But seriously, they're a little silly for a space game. I always hid my cloak in WoW, they just annoy me.

Well now that you've described it that way, I wouldn't mind seeing that! Also it'd be in slo-mo, especially if Snyder's directing it.
As to Mass effect, isn't it also somewhat of a fantasy story in a sci-fi setting with the whole pseudo science and space jesus-ness. I don't think I've ever viewed mass effect as a serious work of science fiction.

No. Your ideas are bad.
Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine.
You wanna....try that again? This time without being a non-contributing zero?

Star Wars is quintessentially sci-fi opera. Good lord read up before making such comments.

No. Go play Destiny. This is Mass Effect.
But Destiny sucks. It's literally the worst game in existence.

Yeah, they really missed a great oppurtunity. Laziness won out, and in the end the scene where he's talking Sovereign augmenting him has very little impact.
Why do you assume it was laziness and not other limitations or simply a different decision?

He assumes correctly (for once). I doubt Bioware had the programming prowess to even implement cloth physics in Mass Effect at that time. I doubt they do now even.

Also, lacking ability is not the same as laziness.

He's an @$$. It's best to leave him alone. Retorting him like this isn't going to solve anything. He gets off on this crap. But he is correct about one thing. Star wars is sci fantasy. I thought it was sci fi for the longest time but I was wrong.Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine.
And by sunshine I mean a thundercloud. A thundercloud which suddenly appears on people who just wish to have discussion and not foster negativity like they just entered high school. Sounds like you need to get laid or something. Lack of sex will do that to a person. Trust me, I Would know from "experience."

It's a blurry line. If you aren't willing to hire the talent or become skilled in video game design of any one facet (or learn from your mistakes *cough*) then why are you even in this business? At that point the only thing you probably care about is shoving out a less than stellar product to get money.
It's the difference between
Making money to make more video games
and
Making video games to make more money.

Ah yes, marginalize my argument by using the IT'S YOUR OPINION BRO card.
....Look I don't want to argue with you. Judging by your avatar you liked Edge of Tomorrow. You're good people in my book.

For my part, cloaks generally aren't worth the resources it takes to program and animate them. Not saying some don't look good, but I would much rather have something like long flowing hair. Game development is largely about prioritizing what you want in the game. Much better hair would be far higher on my list than cloaks.

One day they will be......one day.
Because as God as my witness, cloaks are the coolest thing from medieval times and I will wear them one day in a video game of my choosing!
