In that case: 

 

Battle Buddies: Cole. He is a good person who joins and does everything he does for no other reason than because he wants to help. 

Overall: Josephine. She is a good person who devotes everything to making it a better place and always looking for peaceful solutions.

 

Both are people the world can use more of.

You really don't have to. She joins either way. In fact, I think she'd probably feel better about going for the templars

By the way, did you recruit Vivienne? She's about as easy to miss as Sera, from what I remember.

Mechanically, my favourite companion in Sera.  Having a Tempest around is extremely useful during combat (particularly against dragons and bosses).

 

In terms of personality, I'm a big fan of Dorian and Varric (I never liked Varric in DA2, but in DAI he's a lot of fun).

No matter what personality my character has, Dorian always ends up as a bff lol. So naturally I've brought him everywhere with me. The second is a tie between Sera and Cole. Ive utilized them the most.

My favorites are Solas, Cassandra, Dorian, Sera and Cullen. I enjoy finding the lighter lovable side of serious companions like Solas, Cullen and Cassandra. I also respect their intellect and dedication to their jobs. Sera and Dorian are fun to be around although Sera can be a handful. Dorian and Sera's painful pasts show that they often use humor to cover their pain. I enjoyed helping them deal with their pasts.

I don't care for Blackwall, Iron Bull and Leliana. I'm not usually a fan of meat heads like Iron Bull. Blackwal is a greedy coward and I just don't like him. He can have his redemption but not friendship. Leliana's vicious turn in this game turned me off.

Varric, Cole, Vivienne and Josephine fell into the bland category for me. Out of those four, I like Viv the best just because her strong opinions make her memorable.
