Loghain is my favorite character in the franchise, and it looks like there are a decent amount who feel the same. I think a Dragon Age centered on Loghain and the expulsion of Orlesian forces would be incredible. Won't ever happen, but what do you all think?

I would have loved a game based on the story of The Stolen Throne.  Maric, Loghain and Rowan were great characters and to see the world back then would be awesome.  However given that it's DA, how could you implement choices and variables in a prequel?  I think I'd have preferred that to be the subject of the first game, then leading into the Blight in a second game.  Not sure how it would play retrospectively.

But still, yes.  It would be a great basis for a game, and would educate those who know little of the lore as to just how bad the Orlesian occupation was.

Agreed. It won't happen I know... But he's been my favorite character for a while. I hated him at first in Origins too. And having read the Stolen Throne, he's simply awesome.

I'm starved for a great protagonist in this series. Hawke was the closest for me (let the hate flow lol) but the Inquisitor was so... Bleh. Hero of Ferelden too generic. Having a party of Loghain and Maric with other companions would be so much fun

Generic? I thought the Inquistor was extremely generic, while the Warden may be generic, they... Aren't the Quiz. The Quiz is a Generic, unemontial character that only served to bring me to the next game - I was thinking "Next please" when Trepasser came along and all...

Agreed. I know people love to role play... I do too. But there is a lot to be said for having a character who truly feels like he/she belong in the world. The whole game of Inquisition I was thinking how much better it'd have been if we the player were Hawke.

Meh, I found both the warden and the inquisitor to be a lot less interesting than Hawke--with the warden being the worst of the two with his voiceless, mannikin expression.  I never got the hype built up around the warden.  And both have this "chosen one" shtick that's been done to death.  Hawke felt like a regular guy, like someone who pulled himself off the streets by his own merit, not 'he was picked for some special destiny'.

The Inquisitor was about as generic and tasteless as Ferelden lamb-and-pea stew. They were even an unappetizing beige color, when dressed in their official pyjamas.

But yes, Loghain is an interesting character, although I'm not sure how branching choices would play out, if it all allowed.

It would be great! Imagine a game series based on the books.

I always liked the Warden becuase i like voiceless progies - they are my bread and butter in game series, and I generally thought that the Warden was very well liked due to being super duper personal in terms of voiceless lines, and I really like that in general with that. Oh and about the manikin expressions... Yes, your right, the Warden did have that. But, alas, I don't really have a strong oponion of the Quiz - they are... Very forgettable to me, at least, all of DAI I probaly would've played once if it weren't for the fact that I had played DAO actually; same thing with DA2. The DA series bread and butter game to me is DAO while DA2 is like a hastily over brunt hamburger, and DAI a regular ham sandwich. Meh, Hawke wasn't the actual progies of his story, he was a nobody; I would've had more fun played someone like Cullen over Hawke, actually. I'd learn crap as Cullen actually.... Image, DA2 Cullen...

I admit that Loghain is a good character although I don't necessarily like him. Imagine you could experience the battle of river dane and whatnot, yeah I'd like that game.

I like and respect Loghian in DAI... Does that count as some level?

Well I won't just forget how he betrayed the wardens and the king... He is a well-written character but I'm no fan of the guy

Do you really feel it was betrayal? I used to until I really thought long about it. The Wardens were late in lighting the beacon... Very late. The army was overrun and the king was far too gone to save as well. I think he made the correct decision.

Honestly he should have realized the beacon was late and charged in before it was too late. Also he probably knew the tower was taken.

Maybe even worse was the fact that he believed it was for the best, that more was saved than lost that day. But without the wardens the archdemon can't be slain and he wouldn't allow help from Orlais in his stubbornness, Ferelden would basically be fucked. And when the king died the result was civil war and power struggles while giving the darkspawn time to get stronger.

Had he charged that day they probably would have won and the blight would have ended quicker.

Most Loghain supporters  would rather stick to the Story forum so they can debate the character to infinity.

I'm not sure too many know the Franchise forum exists.

I just came over because I was bored.

The plot is insane if it wasn't betrayal. Arl Howe murders the Couslands for no possible reason or gain otherwise, when his only outcome is to be confronted by a united Loghain and Cailan and put down. Loghain then teaming up with Howe and declaring himself regent instead of immediately going to Arl Eamon is, again, nonsense. As is even declaring the GWs as the traitors that betrayed Cailan.

What constitutes "late" and how would he have possibly known whether it was "late" without being able to see the battlefield?

Nope, Loghains' head and shoulders, somehow mysteriously became separated in EVERY playthru I've had.

To this day, he will never survive, in any of my games.
