How's the new content?  I was turned off by the MMO feel of the game (despite loving MMOs) and the lack of story outside of the mian mission.  Does any of the new content help?

Have there been any prominent bug fixes?  I remember there were more than a few bugged skills, are those generally fixed now?

How is the modding community?  I'm over on the Nexus picking up a few things.  What would you recommend?

The DLC's themselves are a bit better in terms of feeling like MMO, especially trespasser. But the overall game hasn't changed in that regard.

Mostly fixed I think.

Not much modding, mostly cosmetic stuff. Only one I liked was an increase in fade touched drops. http://www.nexusmods...tion/mods/394/?

So not much change since release, I started play it recently. I think the MMO feeling can be reduced a lot by finding the right rhythm of merging the different actions types.

I almost gave up the game because of a sort of MMO feel, but I found a rhythm past the first 8/10H to minimize it a lot. It spread enough the MMO related elements to merge at a right rhythm those elements:

- Major stuff/Main story stuff/Companions stuff.

- A few crafting/equipment focus (MMO stuff) but gave up focus on farming/drops collect.

- Dig companions and NPC at base.

- Make global management actions.

- Make areas exploration (half MMO and half old school with many half tricky exploration progression)

- Focus on some secondary quests that seem the most interesting (half MMO stuff for too many)

- Eventually if the mood/appeal is here do a bit of generic/collection quests (Hall MMO stuff because too much reused similar mechanisms, a bit old school because of some good mechanisms/tricks)

But also sometimes I wonder if I have a half MMO feeling for that many secondary quests a lot because how the text is presented (tiny text screen with a small width breaking sentences too much, and small height involving too much scrolling) and how many secondary quests elements are "lost" inside a ton of lore stuff half interesting and anyway their mass is too much. If I was reading with care any stuff related to secondary quests it's possible many would feel with a better story and less MMO like, perhaps.

EDIT: If the game had real design of many combats as had DAO/DA2 that would help a lot the game. For sure the respawn and very open world approach doesn't help do it, but combats are still a huge burden for the game even if it's not a really bad element. This lack of design of any combat but few minimize the interest of character building, companions building and party building, because this building is related to combats.

EDIT2: Completionist play is the main trap of the game, many modern CRPG since a decade get players used to completionist play, bu tin DAI nothing better to kill the game.

If you don't like the MMO feel (I do), it's important you get out of the Hinterlands as quickly as possible. They've added some companion banter encouraging you to do that very thing.

I actually didn't mind the Hinterlands.  I guess maybe it just got too tedious zone after zone of the same kind of stuff?  In an MMO, at first you're fine with grinding and running fetch quests, but eventually you want it to stop.  I'm fine with the Hinterlands, but eventually I just got bored of the game.  I wanted to be at the MMO equivalent of endgame before the game actually ended.

But I was approaching the game with a DAO lens at the time, which was one reason why I was so dissatisfied.  Right now I'm just looking to kill time, so maybe an MMO grind is exactly what I need.  I was going to try Dark Souls 3, but it doesn't support 21:9 so I refunded it.

While you're here, how often do games support 21:9? I'm looking for a new monitor (because my current 1920×1200 doesn't push my video card), and I was considering 21:9.

Or should I just find a really big 16:10?

Make sure your graphics card can handle the load.  The more pixels in use the more your graphics card needs power.

If you have a shiny Nvidia card go for Asus Rog Swift PG3480 with G-Sync.  Benq also has good gaming monitors.

If you are on a tight budget look at LG29UM58-P.

If you don't mind a non curved monitor try AOCU3477PQU.

If you think I am bonkers, propably I spend a pritty penny on hardware.

If you have an ATI card, wait a few months.

The grinding/farming aspects make few sense in context of DAI, there's missing the competition, team or guild aspects.

I really think DAI can be played differently for a more satisfying playing. I already post about it so I won't repeat.

About the Hinterlands I agree with Sylvius it's a trap. And I quite disagree areas are clones of each other. And also you can skip ton of elements if you don't like them.

For players fully satisfied with DAO some of the best qualities of DAI that are weaknesses of DAO could be seen as DAI weakness. Tricky explorations are a typical example of that.

To play it a bit more like DAO you need focus mainly on main quests elements but even that attempt won't clone the play experience of DAO. DA2 is the closest thing to DAO, competitive CRPG won't match as well, I'm thinking of Elder Scroll series, The Witcher series, Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, Divinity Original Sin, Shadowrun series, Fallout 3&4&FNV. Eventually Drakensang River of Time does the trick but there isn't a consensus about it.

I run an R9 295x2. It's not running anywhere near capacity right now. I had been planning to move to a 2560×1600 monitor (a 77% increase in pixels) but 21:9 holds some appeal.

I have a possibly irrational aversion to 16:9 (I've also never had one).

I was specifically looking at the LG 34UC98 (at 3440×1440, a 115% increase in pixels).

Wait for Freesinc monitors going for 144Hz, they are just around the corner.  Benq an Asus will be a good bet of doing this they allready have the Gsync up an running.  For the moment 75Hz is the max on Freesinc.

Your graphic cards are fine for this.

Or just hook your tower up to a big HD TV, why buy both, unless you game and watch TV at the same time - get the TV, It can be a monitor for gaming and, the smaller one you have is fine for email, forums, browsing.

I run on a 42 inch TV for gaming, it's also my living room TV but, I don't game and watch TV at the same time so, no reason to shell out the $$$ for a top end monitor and a top end TV when one can be both.

What's the resolution on that TV?

I haven't played too many games since I got it.  Most AAA games should support it, or should support some third-party fix.  Dark Souls 3 was the first game that I expected to support it that didn't and they had a history of banning people who used the fix, so both of those together was enough for me to stay away.

Character animations stopping and getting everyone killed.

It's a bit like playing PS1 Crash Bandicoot and you end up just yelling why, WHY!?

I'm serious..

I have this bug more and more often, I suppose it's because I changed my way to do the combats. But it's such a boredom, I haven't get yet what trigger it and how ensure get out of it, sometimes jump work sometimes not, sometimes attack work sometimes not, sometimes move work, sometimes not, sometimes stop control the PC works sometimes not, sometimes take control of the PC works sometimes not. Im' aware a PC can be paralyzed but I don't think it's related or if it's related the game is awful to show such states.
