Now that bioware has added mp, it will be hard for them to take it away.

Snip

                                                                                      <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

Frank Gibeau, is/was the president of EA Labels. Gibeau is very proud of the fact he has never green lit a single project that consisted solely of a single-player experience. EA's Quarterly Financial Statements have shown excellent context revenue from the MP side of the business for quite some time now. BTW, context = micro$transactions.

So, no need to worry, MP is here to stay.

I play video games for the most part to get away from people. I have to deal with enough morons and idiots in both my offline and online life that I don't want to be bothered by other player telling me what to do or what there freaking problems are and throw in people giving you bad rep because you're not as good as they are, swatting, doxxing, and the toxic nature of MP games in general, that is why I would rather not deal with MP modes in any way shape or form.

Online MP is not for me.

Besides when BioWare, EA, Sony, and/or Microsoft turn off the servers I can still play my single player game you can't do that with MP unless you have the money to afford a server of your own.

The world has moved on since 2012- and no amount of reminiscence will get us back some old outdated ideas. Live with the times and not against it.

2012?

I want 1988 back.

I was a teenager. I already had firmly established gaming preferences.

I was one of the people who complained, in 1989, that the second edition of AD&D was ruining the game.

I was 10 in 1989 and by that point I had already been playing D&D for two years. You and I don't see eye to eye often on RPG opinions, but I hated 2nd Ed too. :)

I was more worried about killing off optimus prime and replacing him with hotrod. After the 1984 movie.

Yes, I was obsessed with silly things from the beginning.

where does the 535 sp camp number come from? And did I get counted twice because I have ME and ME3 installed on my computer? Seems to me I have been click baited by a troll. And a troll that really did a poor job at their attempt, its like they weren't even trying.

That number, whether true or false, is completely irrelevant.

The more interesting number is how many people are going to avoid buying a game that suddenly became MP only.

I will certainly not buy such a game, not only am I less interested in the concept of MP, I also tend to encounter connection problems

because of all the companies that decided to start saving money with the use of hosting instead of actual servers. (and lazy netcode probably)

...goes off on a tangent on assumptions without reading the header...

Read the title again.

It says "require".

Example - It also allows ME:AMP to be released much earlier than ME:ASP, since the finalizing of the ME:ASP storyline (and its voice-over permutations) is clearly holding up our ME:AMP fun.

EA can be earning constant revenue allready in ME:AMP whilst everybody is waiting for the small crinkles in ME:ASP to be ironed-out. A year delay on project delivery is always a catastrophy on the ME:A title business-case. That would take the pressure off the SP -developers and promise a high quality release (we all don't want a fallout / destiny constant crash debacle)

What's more:

In MP meaningful interaction, player-driven consequence mechanics, creative head canon and pug love-interestship go a whole step further than in SP.

And it's not about hairdo and sexual orientation. It's about real people who share a common interest. The limited amount of writing that can be done by devs cannot match up what the MP community created.

Just look at the post counts MP to SP to see this evident evolution.

Sure, if you can buy MP version of the game earlier at a reduced price, I want SP only version at a reduced price.

I mean, I'm barely getting any added value from the MP, mostly an exercise in futility and frustration due to bad hosts and crappy netcode.

Besides, the idea of letting the MP hit the market separately didn't really pan out well for the newest iteration of Doom.

And the decidedly mixed reaction might impact sales for the full game release.

So like everything else in business, this is also a bit of a gamble, not the greatest money making idea EA ever had.

(and let's face it, you just want your MP fix NAO and don't want to wait for the SP, you don't really care about EA)

EA Quarterly Financials clearly show high context revenue from micro$transactions. EA will never allow private servers and control will remain via Origins.

However, the moment the servers are turned off.... goodby to the game you bought.

So you are saying those who are here for the SP are betting off leaving then for other pastures then? Leaving this place to the MP crowds?

Nahh, pretty sure they don't. Endless threads about nerfs and buffs await us when the MEAMP forum finally opens, just like the MEASP will be soon riddled with new romance threads. A bit of lighthearted back and forth trolling between SPers and MPers is a nice change of pace. We are like old-married couples

Well, they should find a way to lock the game from private servers if this is the problem, hosting is not a good solution.

I can't tell you how many disconnects I had with DAIMP & ME3MP, smooth games without any lags and disconnects were maybe one out of ten. Maybe.

People networking in games is a natural phenomena that will not get less as larger parts of the world gets better internet connection. Remember that nobodies "pushing" it - it is a natural need for most social beings to interact (of course the old isolated SP was also a magnet for some with asocial behaviour). Good and Bad behaviour is amplified when likeminded people are huddled together.

It is evident that people are willing to pay a small price to interact with likeminded people. Microcredits are new game for all. Requiring experimentation to find the personal thresholds of various persona types. It will be plain negligent to have a unified price over all community segments - Probably the only difficulty is to determine a fair value for that various interactions and hence multiple business models are needed :

a) what will Persona A perceive as apt price.

b ) does country borders still play a role at all in large community (from EA side - with taxation of the service and microcredits, it does, so trade-offs like server presence in large hubs needs to be supported)

c) unbalanced pricing creates arbritrage potential and hence workarounds. if I know the same game elements costs 90% cheaper in the Bahamas, I'll register and spend credits there.

d) You wanna have blue hair, like 1600 others, no problem - simply  pay 5$ per character. You don't care - no prob - no extra charge.

It's gonna be a journey of experimentation.

Just like video games cause violence, right?...

(if anything, MMO's are the biggest offenders when it comes to active anti-social behavior, what with trolling, harassment, etc.)

There is a clear difference in the type of experience between online games and SP games.

SP games are stronger when it comes to immersion, suspense, and story-telling, while MMO are good for those looking to spend time with their friends in a game.

The thing is, not everyone has friends who are into video games, and many are not looking to make friends online.

(given the flimsy and uncertain nature of online relationships)

In my personal experience, the social interaction elements of MMO and MP games I played, most of the time felt like an annoying chore I had to do

just to participate in certain activities within the games.

The ME3 MP community was neither of those things.

In fact, I'd say it's better than the ME:A forum section of the BSN is.

In fact, I'd say it's better than the ME:A forum section of the BSN is.

While I wasn't a regular on this forum, I do remember that the general attitude tended to get very elitist (ironically).

Variations of threads about "dem scrubs", e-peen measuring contests, and endless arguments about nerfing, git gud, etc.

I wouldn't call this better, it's just a slightly different consistency of crap.

But yes, the ME3MP itself was relatively low on trolling, which is why I played (or tried to) for awhile,

until the almost constant lag and disconnects made me stop.
