Would a hard reboot of the franchise be such a bad thing?

Do you know the actual timeframe of the game? So far, they haven't told you exactly when it will take place. It could take place after ME3. Or they could leave before ME3. We really don't know.

What we do know is that you don't need to worry about importing your save games.

That's the big question, I guess.

They could have very well left before the ME3 events. It's pretty cheesy, but whatever. I guess it would help them escape any of the choices.

Before this scrolls off.... all Hitchcock? How come?

Every Hitchcock thing I've ever encountered, which I confess isn't all of them, is just the same creepy weird horror story.

No fun.

So many times the movie "classics" just sucked, like Citizen Kane, etc. Sometimes they're just older but I found that the real Hollywood classics came from Disney or were like in that earlier 20s/30s with Gone with the Wind etc.

Great movies weren't complicated, that's precisely what made them great.

Even nowadays I still have fonder memories of the likes of Tall Tale than like most of the recent Star Wars movies for example.

You haven't seen enough. He did more suspense and thriller type of stories. Not necessarily horror.

That said, I don't like horror in general, but even his horror is better than most. Usually those films are just full of gags. At least he told a story.

Citizen Kane is more considered a classic of filmmaking. Not necessarily story. It was innovative for it's camera work. A lot of films then were still stuck viewing the screen as a stage... very straightforward and static. Besides actor closeups.

I feel I've seen enough.... wait where have I seen this before, is this the Solas dicussion thread suddenly?

But in all seriousness I think if you can't find it in you to let go and just enjoy a "Step Up" then personally I think you are missing out on the whole "movie" thing.

I don't know. I don't remember talking to you there.

I don't think you have seen enough, if the first word for you is horror. He didn't just do Psycho or the Birds. He's just as known for Vertigo, North by Northwest, Rear Window, the Man Who Knew Too Much. Crime stories.

I think I saw Vertigo or part of it at some point.

But yeah why not just Billy Wilder anything? It's still taut and suspenseful, but it has more raw humor and style without necessarily being the happiest place on earth.

Well I didn't say I was a huge fan per se, but it's much more palatable.

I'd still probably rather watch Casablanca.

I edited... I probably am a bigger fan of his than Hitchcock's actually.

But I think Hitckcock did crime or espionage just as well as he did horror.

Hm maybe because I'm not just saying things at random? Is there a method to the madness?

But back on topic they should definitely reboot Mass Effect where the crew of the Normandy competes with other ship crews in epic dance battles, having been disrespected, Shepard and Co. resolves to practice harder, train better, and in romance and lust fight to be the Galaxy's #1 dance act, culminating with such numbers as

1. Mass Real Talk #5

2. Collectin Yo Style

3. Biotic Apocalypse

4. Vigil Boogy

Whose madness? Yours? :D

I don't think you're mad, in any case. I just don't want you to focus on horror.

As for Macguffins, they can be used well. So can "Deus Ex Machina", which people hurl at Mass Effect as well. I think Flemeth was a good use of it. Not so much Mass Effect.

He didn't just work in the horror genre.  Just off the top of my head movies that I've seen:

North by Northwest

The Man Who Knew Too Much

Rear Window

Dial M for Murder

I Confess

All suspense/thrillers.  Definitely not horror and all are really good.

Edit:  Aaaand Straykat already said everything I did

I somehow missed the "Step Up" comment. lol

Must've blocked it out of my mind. I don't even care for real dancing.

My potential for heresy is fairly infinite and unlike captain Edgelord is based on real feelings and emotions and not any desire to be different.

You know what was another good one? Englishmen who went up a hill and down a Welshman, those kind of random feel good movies are the bees knees.

I spoiler tagged some more for whatever reason but not to distract from the topic.

Spoiler

Anyway I think my original thought was though why do we even care about MacGuffins if plenty of people don't even care about Hitchcock?

Also the Sororitas are cute.

I would take Control over Synthesis at least. It only changes one thing. And actually gives an interesting enemy. Whether they're Renegade or Paragon doesn't matter. They're bastards.

Maybe Kasumi should be the hero of that story. :P

I prefer Destroy playthrough wise though.

I understand being against a new AI which still controls the Reapers, and we already discussed once about this I believe.....but why is ParaControl a bastard?

I don't like hard reboots, might as well just make an entirely new franchise in that case. I'm glad they're moving to a new galaxy though, didn't know some people were pissed about that. Do they seriously think dragging out Shepard's story further would be a good thing?

There was nothing wrong with the original trilogy.

Uh....even if I ignore the endings, I could make a list that reaches from here to Alpha Centauri. The ending is, as badly executed as it is, actually a lesser problem compared to some others.

Eh, I don't think my list would be that big, but there were indeed a lot of problems during the trilogy.

Beggars the question of why you guys even bothered in the first place? Did the cover art just lead you on or something?

The Bioware name.  At the time, they had built up a lot of trust.

That wouldn't explain sticking around after this perceived "betrayal" to the tune of X forum posts and such.
