What did Loghain like so much about Maric and hate so much about Cailan? Was the dad that much different than the son?

 

Maric was fighting the Orlesians.  Cailan was pursuing cooperative relations with them.  It's not about them as people.  it's about Orlais.

Loghain was a bitter old man. (Spoilers for The Stolen Throne) Part oh him probably hated Cailan since he was Maric his best friend and Rowan the woman he really loveds kid.  Even though he loved the parents seeing their kid prob did not do much for his mood.

Character wise though, I thought Alistair and Maric were similar. I don't know why Loghain admired him so much... it was his own doing that propped Maric up.

Maric and Alistair seem like the same person to me.

Loghain and Maric went through tough times and victory together.

By tough times I mean desperate , Maric saw his only family his mother killed by Orlesian in front of him , same deal with Loghain , so it was both a personal matter for them to kick Orlesians out and they did it together.

Doesn't mean Maric wasn't a moron , but he was Loghain's moron.

 

Cailan and Loghain never had that type of bond , things were pretty chill until the darkspawn attack , and Cailan thinks it's fun time ahead and he also think making alliances with Orlais is grand.Which put him directly on Loghain's s***list.

And not only was Cailan making an alliance with Orlais, but he was going to do it via marrying Empress Celene which meant Anora, Loghain's daughter, was essentially being discarded.

Maric listened to Loghain, Cailan did the opposite of that.

Well apparently Maric wasn't listening when loghain was busy with Rowan
