so i remember everyone kinda complaining when jaws came out... it was the first DLC, maybe they were bummed because they just finished this grand adventure and felt like it was so off topic.

but let me say, the jaws of hakkon, might be my all time fave DLC!!! i'm playing DAI right now and had to pause and come post this thread!!!

whoever wrote the bulk of this adventure or whoever was involved, just wanted to say thanks!!!

between the look of this beautiful landscape!!! the lore of the Avvar which i have SOOOO much more respect for now, the enemies, combat, treasures/rewards, all the way to your "specific" camps, i'm just utterly enjoying this DLC.

and i'll be the first to admit that yes there are some maps that aren't as fun as others in DAI but you really get what you pay for when you buy DLC like this it's just taken me a while to get to it, i wanted to play it after finishing the game a 2nd time.

i tried playing Descent mid game, like lv 15ish and felt it was WAY out of order, after reading some posts suggesting that its best to play the vanilla game, finish, then play Hakkon, Descent and then Trespasser and i do agree.

so thanks again, i can't wait to experience the last 3 DLCs of DAI, it's kinda like a nice send off like DAO: Awakening was...

CHEERS BIOWARE.

I loved the storyline to JoH. I thoroughly enjoyed it, I even went after the shards for no real reason other than to just do it. I agree, wonderful map.

It is a great map and, a good story line. I like the NPCs there too and, more interaction with Harding is great - just ask her question/ chat with her. :)

Story aside, it does appear to be the most lovingly crafted map in the entire game. The whole thing is gorgeous.

glad to see some others have enjoyed it too. now please don't spoil, but what did u guys think of descent and trespasser???

i played a tad of descent like i said, and i thought where they were going with that was awesome, you see i actually loved the big ass deep roads in dragon age origins, so this kinda felt like an homage to that quest.

and im very lucky to still have trespasser to look forward to as a completely fresh quest!!! excited for the story bits of it etc, i can't even imagine how it will play out but man, think how many times in our lives we get to enjoy our favorite games for the first time!!! for me its dragon age. and i still remember the day i picked up my pre-order for DAO, and how i played it from 11am until 6am the next day, (which is rare for me). DAO still is my #1 fave game of all time!!!

Try riding down the river at night (full tilt), it's like a surreal 4th of July with all the green, glowing spit flying past you. B)

I loved, loved, loved Trespasser. Also a great story and a great ending with great music. Its better than JoH for me personally. The descent was the only one I didn't enjoy as much, but I don't really like dungeon or cave maps.

I liked Descent, it's definitely a good Deep Roads adventure (especially the last zone), but enjoyed it mostly from the new lore we gain. The two new NPCs were... "okay", but really didn't do anything for me.

Trespasser on the other hand... I honestly think is the best DLC that Dragon Age has ever put out. Fantastic locations, all the fun little things to do in the Winter Palace, catching up with everyone (a few hilarious scenes), and so on. Starts off very lighthearted and fun, but then gets very, very serious.

I liked JoH, but still thought it was a bit overpriced.

Glad you like it. I still remember my first run thru it and how I did everything in wrong order. Wonderful time.

While Trespasser is the best storywise, I must admit The Descent is my favourite DAI DLC. Probably because of visual effects. I'm a sucker for pretty places.

Jaws of Hakkon was a very solid DLC. In fact it was kinda exactly what DLC should be, IMHO - it was more of the same from the vanilla game, though done very well. It was another level/map with it's own quirks, sidequests, lore and overarcing story, which was interesting though not essential to the main game's plot. I think the main vibe was that it was good, if not a particularly inventive addition to DA:I.

Descent, I think, got the worst rep. It's short, set exclusively in the Deep Roads which many DA players are lukewarm-at-best about, features minimal interaction with your companions and introduced a lore twist to the DA universe which is baffling and absolutely needs elaborating on (to put it succinctly, it 'raises more questions than it answers'). That said, I still like it. It's a fun and challenging dungeon crawl, with solid NPCs, and if you actually like the Deep Roads (as I do) then they've never looked more stunning. With adjusted expectations, there's a lot to like here.

Trespasser is, I think, being hailed as essential DLC. It's the epilogue of the story of the Inquisition. It's interesting, challenging, a good length and packed with lore, revelations, and fun interactions with all your companions. It's got the heart of Citadel but not quite so silly. In terms of sheer quality for DLC, it's up there with Bioware's best. In fact, the only bad thing I've heard about it is that it really is so essential that it should have been the last act of the vanilla game rather than an appendage lopped off and sold as DLC, a particularly sore point considering DA:I's actual vanilla ending was one of its weakest points.

JoH is great. I really enjoy the dlc and always look forward to the area. Descent is still my favorite between the two though, which is surprising for a deep Roads dlc, but it is so well made and has so much to love: new music, amazingly fun combat, memorable new characters, and lore shockers.
Trespasser I think of as an expansion of the main game because it has new interactions with all the followers and advisors, so how could it not be awesome? :)

Jaws of Hakkon is very good, an excellent way to continue your Inquisitor post Corypheus and pre Trespasser :) I really enjoyed the Frostback Basin as a region, as well as the Avaar who were very cool!

As for the other DLC's... I would say Descent is good, you will like it if you liked Jaws of Hakkon in terms of lore, meeting new people. The environment really depends on how well you like the deep roads :P personally I really enjoy going into the deep roads. As for Trespasser... its pretty essential as people have said, and in terms of continuing the story it is the most essential DLC for Inquisition. I thought it was okay, but I did not enjoy it as much as the other DLC's... but the content is 'must play' due to the importance.

Trespasser is not an 'adventure' in the same way that the other two DLC's are, its focus is creating an actual ending to the game. While there is a plot and adventure there is not really a vast amount of exploration to be done in comparison to Jaws of Hakkon in particular. You get some extra fun bits like new interactions with companions/advisors. Vital for lore, but a quite different experience from most other DLC!

I liked it but both of those dlcs booted my rump big time difficulty wise.  I still have boot prints back there...

The dragon fight was a good one as well, it was fun. I haven't been back in awhile, I might have to try it out again!

I'm right there with you, OP, on many levels.  I'd played JoH previously but still haven't had a chance to play Descent or Trespasser yet.  I recently finished my most recent playthrough of the main game and am in the middle of JoH.  I think the story and lore in JoH are absolutely outstanding!  They bring a lot of complexity to the existing lore without necessarily bringing up a lot of new, unanswered questions.  I'm looking forward to playing Descent and finally getting to Trespasser.  (My computer ate my first two playthroughs of the main game.)  I'm only dreading how much I'll be pining for new Dragon Age once I finish Trespasser.  I mean, Inquisition came out in 2014, so DA4 will definitely be coming out next year, right?  Right!?!

I really enjoyed JOH. It was devastating as an elf, there is some tantalizing lore, some hidden and unexpected. Also, puns. :D

I think some of the bad rep for JOH was its exclusivity to Xbone and PC for months. Of course, had we known the other DLCs wouldn't even be available for old systems, the reaction might have been different.

JOH seems like an improved map from the base game. It tightened up zone plot, had more memorable characters in the Avvar village, some good lore additions without being required to complete the base game. Mostly good side quests where we learned more about the world, like gaining the tribe's respect and the possessed scout.

Plus, there were shards but not obnoxiously too many or in extremely hard to reach places. And the zone itself was beautiful, of course.

(Though someone made a good point in some long past thread that some of the flora felt a bit too otherworldly. I think there was a comparison to Star Wars in the huge plants of the swamp)
