This may be slightly spoilery, I don't know.

Can someone please give me some tips on getting the shards on rooftops in the Exalted Plains (and for that matter, random loot on all the rooftops or ledges inside broken buildings)?  I've found two, one wasn't a problem (you had to climb the hill beside the building and jump down on it), but the other (far west, by the river near the bridge you have to restore) is giving me hell.

I'd also like to say this is a F*****G ridiculous part of an otherwise awesome game, these jump puzzles.  It took youtube to get me to getting through getting the shard in the Hinterlands dragon lair, and that is still by far the only part of the game that makes me want to quit playing EVERY TIME I HAVE TO DO IT.  My Inquisitor is a lvl 23 Rift Mage (played with some of the jack-up-your-enemies trials on until I realized I was levelling up way too fast).  This guy has solo killed the fire-type dragon in Emprise without even losing any health (barrier + staff with guard fade-touched item + rift mage).  He can't just blast a WOODEN ledge down???  And when he tries to climb up the broken walls, either 1) Cassandra or Varric follow behind him and bump him down, even with the 'hold' command activated, or 2) he falls when he goes into combat mode for a few WOLVES???  Sorry for the caps-lock abuse, but this is the single most ridiculous part of this game and I'm pretty frustrated.

By the way I know I'm way over-leveled to be doing the Exalted Plains, but I'm a completionist and I've finished everything but this and the Hissing Wastes, and I was saving the (hopefully) challenging region for last.

NVM, got it ... after two hours of Varric bumping my butt (not now, Varric!  sheesh) and my lvl 23 rift mage freaking out because he's not sure Cassandra, Varric, and Dorian can handle three wolves so he has to jump down and save them.  Screw this jump game crap.

I may get flamed for this by the PETA crowd, but the first crime I may actually go to jail for is, after doing the Exalted Plains, is seeing some wolves in the wild, having a psychotic break, and shooting them all.*

*or hyenas, although I don't think they're protected and so I wouldn't go to jail, after being in the Forbidden Oasis.  I think it would have been amusing and time-sparing if when a group of insanely underpowered foes relative to your party approached, Cassandra popped one of them in the head with her mace, and the rest wisely ran away, all without provoking combat mode.

For a next playthru if u ever do one use the take it slow trial paired with even ground. On my first playthruI learned this, as completionist my self I go for everything before I move, but in dai if u can't get to a certain area after and hour or so of trying, move on cuz there's a 99% chance that area will "open up" by progressing the zone . I've spent hours in emerald graves and exalted plains jumping ledges/exploring refusing to move on until I got that shard or or found that blip on mini map until I realised the game will take me there when it's time

Unfortunately, it seems that this annoying part of the game is unmoddable as it is due to how the engine works. For myself, I have decided that somebody at Bioware just wanted to have fun by teasing people (and especially completionists) with some of these shards. So, if you are not in the mood to get teased, just take a break, wait for the mood and come back later. It should not be a chore.

Wait... at level 23 those wolves shouldn't be any threat to your party.

That's the point; there's no reason my party should even notice them, much less drop everything and go into defensive mode.  At best Dorian should Immolate one or two of them and they should move the f**k on.

You may not like The Descent then. Although it's more a matter of falling than jumping in that DLC.

I just did the last achievement, entering the last door of the shard temple, because in my earlier playthrough i wasnt able to get the shard on the stone pillar where you find the dragon in the Hinterlands. I remember trying in many ways and jumping on those stones like a crazy kangaroo under extacy and to stop frustrated after a couple hours.

This time a miracle happened and at the fourth or fifth try i landed exactly on the stone that allows you to pick the shard; to say I HATE those thing is a big understatement, killing the dragon is a breeze in comparison.

I also hate whe you have to climb a mountain and the only path to go up is always in the other side; like being in Italy and to go on top of monte Bianco have to make a full Alps tournaround because you have to be in France to go on top.

Leave jumping to Super Mario players and be serious please; it's unreasonable that a rogue can jump over a dragon and be unable to do an easy climbing of a steep but reasonable slope.

That's one nice thing with Jaws of Hakkon - that it adds shards, so you don't have to get every single one in the vanilla game to unlock the final door.

But there is a shard door in JoH too. If, like me, jumping and chasing shards just isn't your thing, Cheat Engine with the DAI table can fix that, all you have to do is get ONE shard, then you can use CE to give yourself the rest.

I found one in fact playing  JoH but i toght it was a different collection for some other temple in that area [no spoilers plz it's my first playthrough and i wasnt to solve it without help] also because the PC doing JoH is the one that completed the vanilla shard collection so i wasnt interested in finding more.

Aha, I missed that. And I guess you need ALL JoH shards to open that...

Anyway, I've only gotten ALL vanilla shards once, just to get the achievement, and I hate having to jump around in DAI, so it was no fun at all. I didn't have so much issues with the Exalted Plains shards, though - the most annoying one is the one in the Hinterlands, close to the entrance to the dragon part of the map.

Yeah there are some annoying shards in Exalted Plains.

As far as shards on roofs or second stories goes, usually there is something like a beam that has fallen and makes a ramp.  Then you have to jump a couple times to get onto whatever roof.

A few are stuck at the top of big rock piles, and some are a pain since you have to go halfway around them to climb all the way.

Forbidden Oasis is probably my least favorite for collecting all the shards though.

Can someone please help me?

I cannot get the shard on the roof in the Exalted Plains north of the Eastern Ramparts.

I think it is labelled no 5 on the east side of the map.

I am using a pc with a mouse & cannot jump over to the shard.

What am I doing wrong.

Can I use a mount to jump over? Which one is best if I can?

This is the only one I cannot get.

Here are "guides" for the two ones on roofs: 1, 2

Guess you mean the one in the first video.
