this is BSN.

where every possible love interest you can think of they want

Before I joined BSN, I for the most part thought a lot of Mass Effect fans generally liked the series and were upset about the ending just based on a few comments on videos and articles.

Boy were my eyes opened when I came on here...

otherkin

They really need a new name. It sounds like a child's toyline. Like Cabbage Patch Kids. Otherkin.

Well it is a rule online that the fanbase can and will get unpleasant at times....Well No matter what Bioware does, they will ****** off an segment of their fans.

Good luck convincing people that. You want to be a girl but still want a boy's body. I don't see that as transgender. If you only dress as female but still want to remain in a guy's body, it's more crossdressing than anything.

Transgender individuals do not want to be female or male, they already are those things. It's that the body they're trapped in happens to be wrong compared to their gender identity that is the issue.

Furthermore, crossdressers do not want to be the other gender, nor are they necessarily gay or lesbian... they simply are people who happen to feel comfortable wearing the clothing of another gender. It's not the same thing as being transgender, although that does not mean some transgender individuals might crossdress.

Uhh not really... it's about what they are, not what they want to be. Not all transgender people want reassignment surgery. Yes they are still transgender.

I'm sorry, but that isn't really reassuring me in my perception of transgenders which is that they want a body that matches their inner feelings about what their gender should be. If the future makes this a relatively simple thing to address, then why on earth would they want to stay stuck?

Now you have me thinking about all those times men have remarked about wishing they had boobs, and I am shuddering at the implications.

Furthermore, crossdressers do want to be men/women, nor are they trans, gay or lesbian... they simply feel comfortable in the other gender's clothing.

So crossdressers feel like they like items use by the other gender, but they don't want to change their gender because they're comfortable in their sex's body, and these transgenders feel like they like items use by the other gender, but they don't want to change their gender because they're comfortable in their sex's body?

Yes, that would also be interesting. If the future had the tech to put transgenders in the body they felt they were, then what would be able to do for an otherkin? And if it could do that ... why haven't we seen evidence for an astounding array of body modification anywhere or heard anything about it? Maybe it's simply not allowed by military standards.

Yeah you know I feel both amazed and sorry for Bioware and Mass Effect's writers, that there probably isn't a single aspect of Mass Effect that hasn't in some way polarized fans. I thought everyone loved Liara before coming on here. Now I'm beginning to wonder if there's anyone left who does like her lol

I didn't like her in ME1 just because she came off like a tween having an extreme crush and hitting on an adult. I felt like that old Police song "Don't Stand so Close to Me." She creeped me out, and I when I couldn't kill her but had to choose between Kaidan or Ashley, two characters I did like ... it just made me sort of loathe her.

ME2 improved her some, and by ME3, she was just annoying although the Thessia mission ticked me off all over again.

I don't know what to say except that your perception is incorrect? That is, it doesn't apply to all people who identify as transgender. Many do want to change their body to appear as the gender they identify as, some are content to pass as the opposite gender and some don't identify along the gender binary, so what kind of surgery and hormones should they get? Reasons for wanting or not wanting to do it depend on the individual, and while the procedure may be a more painless process in the future, it's still not something everyone who is trans is going to want.

@ Puddi III

And assuming there are some like this, what do you think the actual percentage would be? What are the odds that they would be on the Ark mission over a transgender who had transitioned?

And if BioWare did include such a character and we were treated to the full explanation of why exactly this happened and this character was like this, would it be for a firm story-related reason or would this character be like Krem, doing it mainly to provide an excuse to prove how inclusive BioWare is?

As I've said before, I can roll with most characters so long as:

1.) They are fully realized characters.

2.) They have a relevant reason to exist within the framework of the plot

3.) Their personal status and issues when and if revealed also make sense within the same context

4.) They do not devolve into either fan service or social PSAs.

So it's basically a small section of the LGBT and then a smaller section within the trans community about people who specifically want to stay as the same body but just feel like the other gender? It's like a niche within a a niche within a niche and specifically those who play video games and specifically the people who play role playing video games. How many people would it be for to dedicate contents for them?

If such a character exists, they would simply serve as a PSA instead of being a character, especially if we go with a world where trans and gay people are accepted in ME universe and have the technology to become their chosen gender.

Not all those who are crossdress are LGBT, they just happen to enjoy the opposite sex's clothing.

Not all those who are LGBT crossdress, although some might do so again for various reasons.

To be transgender is (not always, but usually) being one gender but not having the body that matches said gender. As I said before, it's not about wanting to be another gender, it's that they already are that. The issue is having been essentially given the wrong body by the factory, as the one they are in does not match their own gender identity.

Read my above post.

They are already that? So a transgender girl is basically a girl who wants the body of a man? If they were given the wrong body and has the body to change it but don't then that's not really transgender if you're already comfortable with your own body.
