This is a nutshell.  Just picture me being more polite about it.

Then the whole romance thing would become real awkward with a silent protaganist.

Silent protagonists are history, voiced one's are today. The real question is: are we going to have one or two per gender?

I doubt BioWare would spend on that without race options to justify it.

While I agree that Mass Effect certainly shouldn't have one, silent PCs are actually making something of a comeback at the moment.

As for whether we should have extra voice options... Eh, generally I'm all for more options, but I'd rather two well-done voices, with a lot of personality, than four with relatively little.

The protagonist not being voiced only works if the entire game delivers dialogue in text form. It was jarring in DA:O to listen to fully voiced NPCs interact with the protagonist, only for the protagonist's reply to be delivered in text form.

Why stop there... you know how much imagination the graphics ruin? Text adventure all the way baby!!!

...

No...

Mass Effect as a text-based adventure;

<You are on a planet in a Mako>

Drive North.

<The Mako falls down a hole>

Walk North.

<A Reaper stands before you>

Imma firin' ma lazer!

<Reaper is unaffected>

<Reaper charges main cannon>

Runrunrunrunrunrun!

<Reaper misses>

-Remove voiced protagonist
-Remove cinematics
-Make Mass Effect Turn based.

Would probably have more reactive gameplay and vastly better decision trees. Would be a tradeoff I am willing to make

They should also make it isometric.

Funny how one of the DA:O DLCs was 'voiced protagonist' and no-one batted an eyelid...

That wasn't a Mako you were driving, a simple hole won't stop the Mako.

I think it is only an issue when the dialog is presented from an over the shoulder/close up camera. It puts the main character is an actor in a scene but it feels out of place when everyone can speak but not the main actor.

If it was fully voiced dialog in an isometric rpg, I do not find it weird or out of place at all. I played the beta for Tides of numenera and one scene had a companion that was fully voiced throughout this exchange. This did not feel weird to me at all because I maintained the isometric camera and I was not inserted into this cinematic.It was well done.

I don't think it's need race options as justification cause you could freely choose the voice regardless the race. Saint Row 4 had 3-4 voices per gender and every voice was for human protagonist. I think Bioware should do opposite now that they don't have races in ME:A, they should put even more effort in the CC than in DAI including voice options.

given we'er playing human regardless I'd asy we'll have 1 male 1 female voice we only got 2 in DAI because of the different species

No thank you.  I like listening to my character actually talk back to someone.

If she's going to yell during a fight, which she does, things like "No Fair"; "Bad Breath alert"; "it seems we must defend ourselves".  I want that voice talking back to the others, not just standing there looking like she's suddenly gotten laryngitis after yelling so much during the fight.   https://www.youtube....h?v=dZtRAdNTZOg

I would like a few choices in the voice though.  DAI had 2 and that worked pretty good for me, a 3rd would have been nicer, or maybe some kind of slider where you could deepen the voice or made it a bit higher.

I am glad that BioWare often decides not to listen to the fans. Use a silent protagonist and I won't buy the game. Only DA:O was an exception.

Well Kotor 1 and Jade Empire are good Silent protagonists as well as DA:O

If they went back to silent protagonist for DA, i think, it would be great, but Mass Effect always had a different feel from Dragon Age so a voiced protagonist always "fit"

Good thing about silent protagonist, though, is that i awlays know what my character is gonna (pun intended) say

These are 2 of my favorite games, KOTOR is my #1 favorite and I continue to replay both of them.

But personally as much as I love with a capital L these two games, I enjoyed hearing Shepard talk and the "I'd rather drink acid" line would not have had the same effect on me if it hadn't been voiced.  True, there were occasions where I cringed (Shepard stop talking to Jacob like your in heat) but on the whole I do enjoy hearing them actually say something.

In the mornings I play while my husband sleeps and I use the caption options.  Maybe they could do this just for the main character so people have options.  But I really don't want to go back.

Another suggestion to make Mass Effect less like Mass Effect.  Great plan!

yeah I was introduced to Boiware's games through ME so I am more used to the voiced protag and whilst I do thoroughly enjoy DAO even though it dosen't use one I personally prefer having my character having a voice and to be fair I think Bioware has chosen their voice actors very well as I don' t think in any of the ME and DA games they done much wrong in that department. If anything I'd say they've been pretty close to spot on. Yes there are areas in Bioware's games which do need more work but for me this is not one of them.

Stop with the horrible voice acting for main characters in RPGs. I want to be able to role play in my role playing games. I know Mass Effect never had a silent protagonist but its time to take the series in a bold new direction. No matter what you did or what choices you made Sheperd was always the same old Sheperd due to the voice acting be it good or bad. Have faith in us game developers. Some of us can still use our imaginations from time to time.

How about they do this ten years ago.
