So after doing all what needs to be done in the Winter Palace, my inquisitor says...'There goes the first bell'

Me: What? What bell?

Inquisitor: (stays silent)

I know we need to get to the ballroom before the second bell....so...halfway there my Inquisitor says...'There goes the second bell'

Me: That's two bells gone, and I havn't heard one.

So, I am curious to know if anybody actually hears the bells. I sure can't. This is my third playthrough by the way, so I'm not new to this.

And it's not my PC audio having problems, because i can hear the spiders scuttling around so....

What? You thought the Winter Palace didn't have spiders? It has more than those..a maid called out to me with a erm gesture...maybe she was a  lady in waiting :P

Anyway, can you hear the bells?

They're more like gongs but I have heard them perfectly in every play through, they only chime once each time.

FYI if you wait until after the second one, you are then fashionably late and you gain 10 points to your court influence.

Yes, I've heard them as well. By the by, you want to wait to enter until your Inquisitor says, "Now I'm fashionably late," as you'll get more court approval points that way. Unless you're already rockin' 100, then never mind.

Anyone know what happens if you 100% ignore them? I was always too scared to find out and I'd rush around the second one.

If I remember right, approval drops. I did that once in an early PT, ignoring the bells to get to that secret room in the library.

If you go after first bell, nothing really happens. Second bell - fashionably late - approval rises. Miss that as well and after third bell your approval drops, because now you're simply late.

Yes, I know you don't enter the ballroom until the second bell goes off with a whisper....lol...also if you do enter before the second bell, Morrigan doesn't show up.

Isn't it good that you can roll back to a previous save and redo.

As for you all able to hear the bells (gongs) that isn't fair.  ;) Maybe if I turn up my volume to 90 I might hear them next time.

Anyway, thanks for replying all.  :)

Yes I hear them every time. First bell, head to the ballroom door but wait for the second bell. then Inquisitor says "That's the second bell, fashionably late now." Enter the ballroom at that point, you get 10 approval for it. Don't let the third bell happen.

Even if you can't hear them, go by what your inquisitor says, and enter fashionably late every time you have to do it.

Huh? I'm pretty sure she appears no matter after which bell you enter the ballroom.

She didn't for me Rascoth...that was with my first playthrough. I went into the ballroom before the second bell and Morrigan never showed.

I went back out and tried again, still no Morrigan.

Maybe a bug that time.

Seems like a bug. I'm pretty sure I entered the ballroom before second bell a few times and Morrigan still appeared.

Besides, it would be stupid to have option to enter after first bell if it meant you're not able to progress the quest because of that.

The bell won't go off the first time until you pick up the letter in Morrigan's study, so you can wander all you want until then.

The bells go off after you pick up all three items required to progress the story.

I picked up the item on the balcony last and the bells went off.

I don't know which platform you're on, but I've got weird sound issues on the PC. Some sounds are very clear while others are pretty muffled. I don't know to which soundset the bells are connected. I decreased the effects volumes considerably in order to spare my neighbour's nerves. If it's an effect, it would explain things.

As for Morrigan being a no show - I have the same issue with Dorian's father, later on in the game. Saving when they don't show up, quitting to desktop and restarting usually triggers the cinematic.

There's a weird bug that if you click on the wrong part of the door it wont play the cutscene, and will just load the ballroom as normal.  Also you'll lose approval because you're 'late' as the game hasn't registered that you've arrived.

Yeah.  I have first hand experience with it.  The bug should've been patched though.  Maybe you're just unlucky?

I find if you save just before going into the inn and reloading if he doesn't show the first time, usually fixes it.

It never did it for me. I had to have a save inside the inn and to reload that to be instantly in the cinematic.

Saving, loading and switching to a non-Inquisitor character and clicking on the door works for me.

@Illyria...I remember doing my first playthrough and after my Inquisitor said something about a bell I took no notice and just strolled around finding things to loot.

Then she said 'second bell we better hurry to the ballroom'.

That was when the fun started... I coudn't find the way back to the ballroom..lol...I was completely lost.

I did eventually but lost court approval...so I cheated and reloaded an earlier save...(not too far away, as I do save often in every game I play) and got it right second time. :)
