This is the same reason I would call a woman who was born a man (and unhappy in their body), a woman. I wouldn't fall in love with those women, and/or have a sexual relationship with them (that I can say 100% if I knew they had been born male), but I respect them as much as to call them women.

Well by the idea that Shale isn't a woman based on simple sexual organs, by that logic a woman after menopause is only partially a woman cause their internals don't work. And technically speaking if gender was based solely on organs then everyone is a female, as male parts are just mutated female bits.

I remember whilst at the Party Camp this question arose and I believe she/he gave certain hints, but never truly told you if she was a certain gender or not.

I was happy thinking of Shale as a he/she - Hermaphrodite or Asexual.  It had very Liberace tendancies - effeminate male character.

It makes sense because - a soul has no sex.  A Golem is inhabited by the souls of dwarves.  If the soul was to rehouse itself it could choose what sex it would like perhaps.

Shale is a woman. At least she WAS. She definitely was a female dwarf.
