I am playing the game again after a rather long break, and I am making some different choices - which is really fuim.

A couple of questions:

1) why does it take forever for the mark of the rift to activate. I am a mage, level 20 and I have only been able to use it four or five times....

2) can i get a Cassandra as Devine outcome if I have the Templars join as allies?

3) I never noticed the Trials option previously - seems fun, but how do they impact the overall game///

as an aside, I enjoying playing as I am finding things that I previously missed -- like the blade of suledan quest...

1) That happens to me too but I just load up on focus gain accesories. (I play as a mage also)

2) Yes, Cassandra can definitely be divine even if you go the Templar route I've done it before (I think haha)

3)I'm too chicken to do Trials yet even though I play nightmare LOL

Yes Cassandra can be Divine if you let Leliana go hard (ie let her kill the guy at the beginning, and then she'll kill Sister Natalie in the chapel no matter what you say, and then you support Cass at every dialogue opportunity. I got this outcome first play through after recruiting Templars and playing as an elf warrior (so no canon for me!)

The mark of the rift is all about getting more focus which is boosted by getting all your team to do fancy spell/move combos. If only the battle hud wasn't so hard to use (on the ps4 it's ... [disgusted noise]) it might be easier. Focus takes ages to build, but the spell does a fair bit of damage so if you could use it every other spell the battles would be too easy i guess.

Focus is gained by performing cross class combos such as Freezing/Paralyzing with a mage, and then using Shield Bash on the target. Basically, you use spells or abilities with detonator effects, and then you detonate them. There is also a team focus ability in the Inquisitor's Mark of the Rift tree that adds focus to all party members whenever the above effect is achieved. It is also gained by killing enemies.

I think the type of enemy matters too. When my team fought the Sandy Howler, I noticed that killing the lesser dragons added a lot to my focus meter.

You can make Cassandra Divine, but you will need to support her yourself on the Chore Table. Get that operation by speaking to Cassandra after WEWH, but before you do the Arbor Wilds. The operation itself can wait until after the Wilds, but the cutscene to get the op won't trigger if you finish that level first.

You could also just not recruit Vivienne.
