Nice. My favorite GTAO memory was trolling the **** out a cheater/mod user by calling him out and goading him into trying to kill me. Only I was in passive mode in the construction complex. He couldn't do **** and me and my boys clowned him until he shut up and left. Best line: "GOT EEM!"

The cheaters online in GTAO pretty much killed the whole game for me. That and rockstars mega heavy anti-modding stance. It's loosened up a bit since launch but it was a huge turn off and once I completed SP I gave up. I wish games would have a section for mod users and a section for vanilla. Then everyone could be happy.

GTA V was already ruined for me. GTA IV was much better imo... better driving physics, and a more fun MP mode. I felt completely free in GTA IV online, but not in GTA V. I felt like I couldn't do anything because otherwise it'd cost me money - money which was a grind to make because the developers wanted to push their shark cards. Just wasn't worth playing in the end. I spent all my money trolling people then gave up. :P

Personally, I think a no-modding stance on a multiplayer game is a fair thing to do. I know some genuinely nice modders wouldn't be able to have as much freedom, but 96% of people who mod online games don't do it to improve things or anything like that... they do it to kill people with their cheats.

I admit, I check score between almost all waves, especially when playing with Xan and Ark so I can see my manhood shrivel in front of me. But, I mainly check to see if I'm contributing, don't really care about score unless I pug into scorewhooooring player.
But, i play this a bunch also because I gotta cool wife, who doesn't care if I'm playing games as long as I'm not raging as I play, so I get to play this quite a bit, since I'm typically in chill mode.

Yeah my memories of GTA V were mostly me as a level 50 going against a couple level 200s and the occasional level 500 and getting my butt handed to me over and over again. Me being a stubborn idiot, I died like around twenty or so times but I still managed to kill them around 3 or 4 times. Stupid but worth it!

That and my eagerness to jump into deathmatches with lobbies full of level super high level people left my K/D a pitiful mess. Still fun game to pick up and play now and then, especially if you have friends to play with.

Back when I first got my PS4, GTA V was the only game I had. Played MP for a while... bought myself an apartment and a sports car and all the weapons which took my fancy. Not sure which level I was around 73 ish I think? Played on PS3 for a little while beforehand, but nothing major. Was never a fan of deathmatches. Focused on usual missions, survival and racing. Then I realised racing wasn't racing, just a game mode where people who couldn't drive smashed each other into barriers to try and get into first, then used the catchup etc to make up for incompetence further.

Rest assured, I hosted many non-contact races. And because racing is something I'm good at (even though I hate the GTA V driving physics) I won. A lot. I unlocked all car modifications by level 10 or something stupid. :P

I've deleted the game data from my PS4. It's not a game I really enjoy playing. At the time, I was just playing it because I had nothing better to do on my PS4 XD Then I got Batman Arkham Knight, Fallout, the Elder Scrolls Online, Just Cause 3, Assassin's Creed Syndicate.. and then now I'm happy. :P

Racing has never been a huge interest of mine, kinda like Fifa or Dota. Besides I sucked at GTA racing, most of the time I couldn't even complete the bloody race with it's silly fucked up track layout. I loved getting into massive shootouts in the city in GTA, that was pretty fun and chaotic! I also loved the heists but getting decent teammates is a hit or miss thing. Still it was fun to goof around with friends in it.

I haven't played Elder scrolls online though, I really loved their initial cinematic trailers but I have been hearing less than stellar reviews for it though. Still would like to give it a try. I did play a bit of Fallout 4 which is okay and AC Syndicate which contrary to my expectation was pretty good! Loved the twins and the main villain was rather good as well.

Never liked Fifa. Never liked the one month £49.99 the next £1.50 tactic by places that sell Fifa anyway XD Think its hilarious though. They have like a 95% drop in price when they're a few months old. XD I've seen Fifa 10 for 10p or something stupid :P

Ah, you've been playing with user made tracks. Yeah. Don't do that. :P Play on preset ones or my race tracks because they're sensible things.

The heists... good idea, but the lobbies were awful. Literally the lobbies for the heists are the worst gaming experience of my life :P

The Elder Scrolls Online is good, but it's... kind of just a generic MMO that happens to be set in Tamriel. It's totally not an actual Elder Scrolls game. But as an MMO, it's awesome.

I love Fallout 4. Still doing my Harley Quinn/psycho/cannibal/evil playthrough and that's a lot of fun. :P

AC Syndicate is one of the best AC games that has come out in recent times. I'd put it below AC2 though, but around Black Flag? (which, for me, is around second/third on the list of best games in the AC series). I clearly use Evie more than Jacob, because stealth is awesome, but it's the only AC game I actually go back to after I've completed it for a wander round. :P

The only reason I bought GTAV was because I loved Red Dead Redemption so much. Never spent the 1st second online. Like the big map because I love free roam games like Skyrim. But, I quickly discovered ME3MP and other than taking couple of breaks for Skyrim, Last of Us, and Bioshock Infinite replays, haven't touched anything else in almost 15 months. Will probably go back and play Red Dead again, but I'm happily stuck with ME3MP.

Absolutely, most other communities suck. This community helps keep me playing. Where elae would so find so many people that are somewhat nice to a ****** hick from Tennessee.
Hells bells, the SP community on here is nuttier than squirrel s*** for the most part. "We're Mass Effect lifers, but if you play MP you suck." Don't understand the logic of some folks in this world.

I wasn't entirely joking, however I will tell you that I do check the scoreboard between waves, just like most of my friends. I'm not sure how an inscure loser's opinion matters to you but here's mine: we are all humans, and we compare ourselves to each other, even if it's a flawed scoring system in a cooperative game. I've read your other post where you say that you lack a competitive gene. I understand this, however you must also understand that you are a minority in this regard. Checking how much you are contributing towards the dps is not a problem at all. The problem is with the people that only play for the score, like the pugs that leech objective waves and nuke wave 11 when they are getting outscored. I check the scoreboard to see how the team is doing. If I find a player that outscores me without using the above mentioned cheap tactics, I send them a complimenting message, or at least I'll add their name to the "people I can learn from" list in my mind, and I'll be happy to play with them again.

My 'kind of an insecure loser' remark was entirely mischievous. I have been very clear about my love of BSN, and the skill of the players here, and I of course accept that there are many competitive ones among you. The idea that your opinion wouldn't matter to me is kinda ridiculous - you're one PSN/BSN's greatest assets. I'm sure we'll run into one another here or in Andromeda. :)

For what it's worth, I don't disagree with any of what you say, and I approach the game exactly the same, right down to messages. I just don't check scores because I'm not interested. I will know the capabilities of the team within a very short time, with opinions usually confirmed by wave 3. I'm pretty good at predicting what a table will look like before it appears, because I rarely go Rambo and will usually try to remain aware of what the host is doing. I will be second in the vast majority of pug games I play, sometimes third, occasionally first and rarely fourth. I make for a pretty solid wingman, but ultimately I am an Average Joe, and I'm proud.  :P

As for the wider concept of competition, I once had this debate with Cain too. What passes for reality from an American perspective may be different in other cultures. (Are there other cultures?! ;) ) I am happy to compare myself to someone in terms of height or weight or objective values, but I don't seek to be better than anyone in any context. I try to be the best I can be. I can learn many things from other people, playing ME3 MP or how to fix a puncture, but to view what they do in a way that makes me feel worse about myself is pointless, just as doing something better than someone else should be irrelevant to me. I've learned things first hand from some of this game's masters, who are undoubtedly more skillful than me, but they've all seemed happy to have me as a regular teammate over the years. I have a bit of skill killing virtual aliens - it's really not that big a deal to me how much skill, as I'll have the knowledge that I've done everything I reasonably can to contribute to a successful mission. Successful missions make me happy. Some more than others, but it's my only real motivation. Ultimately, I would say a 'Mission Successful' message is the only thing that really matters. Objectively, you can't really argue too much against that. In my entire career I've failed two Gold duo GiPs with QMR, one GiP with Cato, one AHF Hydra Collectors Plat game with Cronshaw, Lucky's brand new alt, and Oni I think, maybe Ark, with lag and frame drop from hell, although I did bank the wave 10 credits. I don't remember a single other failed mission I've begun with a BSNer, except a bizarre SIlver duo with Stephen the Quarian fan when I was trying to teach him the Justicar / Acolyte. (Edit: and one other game with QMR and Mordokai which I refuse to talk about.) My pug success is obviously lower, but honestly not by much if you discount clusterf*ck GiPs. I do know I probably come across as a patronising old fart, but I'm just trying to articulate some of the core things I genuinely love about the gameplay, and what makes it so addictive, particularly in the context of this thread, and with the development of Andromeda in mind. Co-op has the potential to take over my life. PvP doesn't. But I don't begrudge you guys your desires.

I believe that universally, in nature and everywhere else, cooperation trumps competition, even though using the word trump right now feels kinda icky. That's where belief in human competitiveness being natural gets you.  ;)

(Edit: this poor attempt at a humorous remark is corrected and expanded upon later in this thread)

I may jokingly curse the day I first read the letters 'BSN', but it's all good.  If people wanna go all turbo-charged, I say good luck to them. I'm perfectly happy picking on scraps from time to time. And you know how I feel about objective waves, where it is very, very easy to gauge my contribution, as well as everyone else's - that's where my opinion of players comes from, not score.

And I still have no likes.  :(

GTAV had its moments, but it was TRASH TRASH TRASH TRASH TRASH. The game could barely run and Cockstar decided it'd be a good idea to lock interior spaces yet keep the lagging ass police mandatory. GTAIV felt more free because it was. Way more interiors, the ability to shut off traffic and cops, an actual passive mode, and the ability to select weapons. If those options and map depth were in V, I might still be trolling the idiots who play it today. The servers sucked, the music sucked, the weapon unlocks sucked, jets were overpowered and choppers felt useless when the stinger was brought in (while you  need level 70 for a basic RPG). The stealth mode only played a role in about 5 missions tops, and their punishment for cheating was laughably bad (stick them in a cheaters lobby). Why not IP ban? Why not disc ban? Why not have architecture that could detect a change in game files? Rockstar are a bunch of jamokes.

Socom PS2 Era over everything today.

Lore and enemy-design wise, has anyone noticed the weird similarities between Destiny's four enemy factions and ME3's four enemy factions?

- Techno-organic zombies who serve the main bad guys directly. Use mindless weak humanoids that run at you to melee, slightly-stronger slightly-less-humanoids that shoot at you, giant mutant guys that try to smash you, and screaming female almost-bosses that use magic powers. (Hive/Husks)

- Advanced alien robots who make distorted animal noises and bleed white fluid that were neutral until deciding to worship the main bad guys. Use one-eyed humanoid robots that shoot at you, one-eyed humanoid robots that shoot at you from far away, giant three-eyed humanoid robots, and flying drones. (Vex/Geth)

- Guys in faceless white power armour/astronaut gear who really like using Greco-Roman names who ostensibly oppose the main bad guys but are actually being unwittingly manipulated by them. Use soldiers with annoyingly-invulnerable giant impractical shields, small and agile variants of their normal soldiers with magic powers, and upgraded versions of regular soldiers called "centurions". (Cabal/Cerberus)

- Formerly-great empire of four-eyed insectoids who once opposed main bad guys, who were then defeated and corrupted by main bad guys into being a society of mindless raiders. Use flying eyeball-shaped robots. (Fallen/Collectors)

I feel like it's not impossible that Bungie ripped Bioware off, considering that Destiny is far from original in other areas, but I like to think it was a coincidence.

..."1v1 me Gandhi"

I'm not so sure anymore, Loufi.
Xan might be on to something here and usually has an uncanny nose to detect pretence and hits the nail straight.

I wasn't entirely joking...we are all humans, and we compare ourselves to each other... I've read your other post where you say that you lack a competitive gene...

Xan's response triggered me to reread it then and it made me attentive on some contradictions i.t.o competitiveness.

... know the capabilities of the team within a very short time...
....opinions usually confirmed by wave 3...
...pretty good at predicting what a table will look like before it appears,
...I will be second in the vast majority ...
...I'm proud...
...Are there other cultures...

seems like pretty usual competitive traits to me..

...makes me feel worse about myself...
...it's really not that big a deal to me...
...with Cronshaw, Lucky's brand new alt, and Oni I think, maybe Ark, with lag and frame drop from hell...
...other game ...which I refuse to talk about...
...clusterf*ck GiPs...
...with nothing to kill...because it's usually one of our regular's fault

The crux is probably his somewhat unique definition of competiveness as something which is utterly destructive by nature.

My conclusion Xan - He is just as competitive/uncompetitive as we are - he simply (maybe unknowingly) packaged it in large number of boxes all over the place.

Don't worry man, I stopped reading most of your posts weeks ago. :P ;)

I believe that universally, in nature and everywhere else, cooperation trumps competition

There's a lot on which we can agree in what you said there. That reminds me, a few years ago I had to write an essay about the "dangers" of video games. At some point I talked about the fact that there are many kinds of video games and that some of them bring good and various things to the table. I talked about ME3, and amongst other things, about how cooperation can offer a widely different experience than a PvP one. Was really fun to talk about cherished video games in a mandatory essay, probably one of the best I wrote haha, even talked about Carmageddon but I'm getting off topic.

Honestly, the fact that it is a coop game drastically changed my experience of multiplayer. Last multi I tried before that was Battlefield 3, which already suffered from a weak SP but fared pretty good compared to other FPS single players of the same genre I've played before. I only started the multi a year after its release but the majority of players were already skilled veterans and it was really tough. The thing is, in these kind of games, if you're way below average, you're gonna get killed over and over again in a matter of seconds. Never had that much fun playing it even the few times I was doing pretty good and the experience was always tainted by recurrent bouts of frustration.

You will find the most frustrated players in games that have competition at their core, it's inevitable. As a coop game, ME3 multi displays a lot of factors that push you to develop your teamwork side, taht's a coop core and it reflects on players' behaviours and even feelings. For instance, trying to help a good/friendly teammate in a really tight spot by taking great risks for yourself, being able to to do so, being paid back later, that's a pretty good and unique feeling. When I play with someone I really like, I will even occasionaly go on a suicide rescue mission, knowing that I'm gonna die in the process  and that not going to help would probably be for the best....  You know what I'm talking about right ? When you know it's doomed but you can't stand the idea of leaving your buddy die alone haha.

That being said, ME3 multi also has a few competitive elements that can be exploited by anyone willing to. The good thing is, as it's not the main thing, most of the time it won't spiral out of control and players keep it friendly. There are still a few things that will ignite the competition flame, the main being the score and mostly the fact that Kills get you a huge chunk of the points when assists gets you frak all. It might have made more sense to reward support actions more than the way it is right now, on the other hand, if players were using teamwork and support  to outscore their teammates, it would defeat its own purpose so I guess it's pretty good just like it is. I don't have a huge experience in multiplayers in general but this is the most friendly / peaceful community I've seen yet (never played other coop games).

I'm with you on this, ideally, people would be better off trying to improve themselves without comparing to others, unfortunately we live in a world wherecompetition is omnipresent ans it's really not that easy to cast it aside to focus on what really matters. I honestly wish I had no desire towards competition with others at all but I do a little, luckily I love teamwork more than I care about being "better" than the other guy so teamwork will always win in my naive romantic heart.

We're not hitched, but considering my partner is French, the little amount of complaining she does about this game is kinda incredible.   :D

What's that supposed to mean ?! I'm really tired about all these sterotypes about us french, seriously, I'm sick of it, what makes you so great you think you can judge others. Why do we always get those stupid clichés , why us ? It's so annoying ! You'd better apologize right now peasant or you'll be reported to Mod02 <-- See what I did there ?
