Enormous levels in the likes of Destiny

I think because of the rigid structure of a storytelling game, a way to improve the sense of freedom is having enormous levels where the player has the chance to choose his way through...in the likes of Destiny where the storytelling is far more rigid than the  MA trilogy but it mitigates it with  expansive worlds....very big and full of dicrections to choose...what do you think about that?...are you taking inspiration from such or other games? Thank you!
