CALM DOWN I DON'T SHOUT I JUST USE THE DRAGON AGE

INQUISITION TEXT STYLE. SERIOUSLY HOW THEY COULD

HAVE ENDED IN SUCH RIDICULOUS DESIGN CHOICE?

THERE ARE A TON OF TEXT TO READ AND OBVIOUSLY

THEY DID IT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T MAKE FULL

VOICE ACTING. I'M FINE WITH THAT BUT THEN SHOW

ME THE TEXT IN A PROFESSIONAL WAY NOT LIKE SOME

IRRITATING TROLL IN SOME OBSCURE FORUM. AND AS IF

FULL UPPERCASE WASN'T ENOUGH SUFFERING THEY ALSO

HAD TO PRESENT ALL TEXTS IN A TINY WINDOW WITH A

TINY WIDTH WITH THE AWWFULL EFFECT TO BREAK EACH

LINE INTO A BUNCH OF TINY LINE. INCREDIBLE.

Sigh.

Thank God there are no voiced codexes. Those are a pain to sit through.

Best guess?

Xbox 360 and PS3.  They are lower resolutions than what their modern counterparts and the PC are capable of and Bioware wanted to make sure people playing the game on those platforms could read the codices if they wanted to.  They also likely didn't want to have to code different codices for different platforms so they went with something that would work - functionally, at any rate - on any platform.

The text is very hard  to read on my PS4 unless I sit very close to my 48 inch TV. Apparently using caps makes the small font  even more difficult. Not sure why they made that design choice.... yeesh

Which texts are we talking about? I haven't seen any issues with reading Codex entries on PC.

I assumed they meant the text you see when you read a codex or note during play.  It's all in upper case letters and short lines.

Didn't bother me, but the OP apparently feels....justified...in their opinion.

I'm sure they did it to annoy overly pedantic gamers.

I like to imagine that about 75-80% of Bioware developers work day is spent concocting ways to annoy people.

But... you still can't. They are too small even if written with caps.

Really? That must have been frustrating.

I'm out then. I did say it was a guess.

WHY ALL POSTS AREN'T IN UPPERCASE IF THAT'S COOL

AND EASIER TO READ? BOOKS WOULD BE PRINTED IN

UPERCASE, ALL INTERNET SITES WOULD BE IN FULL

UPERCASE. BUT OK THEY HAD TO WAIT SOME BIOWARE

GENIUS DISCOVER THAT TEXT IN UPPERCASE AND SHORT

LINES IS MUCH EASIER TO READ. SO THE FANATIC GAMER

WHAT'S YOUR POINT? BIOWARE DOES IT SO IT'S SMART?

NO SORRY BUT THAT YOU DEFEND THAT IS THE TOP OF

RIDICULOUS AND THE BIOWARE GENIUS THAT MADE IT

HAPPEN IS NO GENIUS AT ALL.

Sigh, at least admit it's a total absurdity. Ok could be for players using TV but I don't play with TV.

Still not seeing the point of making a fuss. I've never seen a console version, though; the text was quite legible on my PC.

I can confirm that despite the text all being uppercase, it does nothing to help the legibility on console. I have a 46" tv and I still have a hard time reading the codex entries and wartable missions. Honestly most of the time I don't just because it's a pain in the butt.

That being said, I don't really see why there needs to be a fit thrown over it being childish? My mother in law writes everything all in capitals and I never think her Christmas cards are yelling at me ;)

TEXT IS TEXT, THAT IT'S SHOWN INSIDE A GAME DOESN'T CHANGE

ANYTHING. YOU ARE JUST DENYING HOW POOR WAS THIS DECISION

AT LEAST FOR LARGE MONITOR. I AGREE IT'S MORE OR LESS

READABLE IT'S STILL LESS READABLE THAN NORMAL TEXT.

THE FIRST POINT IS NOBODY IS USED TO READ TEXT LIKE

THAT. THE SECOND POINT IS IT HIDES PUNCTUATION AND

PUNCTUATION IS IMPORTANT FOR A BETTER FLUID

READABILITY.

Take your own advice.

It's just the font BioWare uses.

THE LETTERING STYLE IS MORE IMPORTANT FOR LEGIBILITY.

SANS SERIF STYLES  ARE ONLY SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN,

WHICH EXPLAINS A LOT ABOUT THE WEB.

The Romans seem to have done quite well without lower case letters, for example.

It isn't all caps anyway. It's in small caps; the capital letters are still quite distinct.

I've never understood the hate sans serif fonts get, come to think of it. Is this like that fuss over Peter Jackson using a framerate that was too high because.... something?

Why does this matter?  The codex looks fine to me.  I focus on codex content and not on codex presentation.  Maybe you should change your focus to the codex content and not how the codex content is presented.  For the record, I'm using a PC.  So, I don't have he same issues as some console users.

I played on console and the font never bothered me. I also have a teeny tiny tv in my bedroom :P
