As much is unknown about Mass Effect Andromeda, it is hard to say what will be included in the multiplayer portion of the game. I assume co-op will be making a return, but other than that it is hard to judge.

One thing that I do not want to see in Andromeda is PvP multiplayer. There are others out there who agree. So this is a chance to get your opinion heard.

PvP multiplayer automatically reduces the quality of the community. When the object of the game is to kill one another, there is no sense of cooperation. There will be less talk of trying out interesting character builds - people will focus in on the most powerful setup and use it, because it is advantageous for them to do so.

Then comes hacking. Inevitably, there will be hackers in the game. In PvP games, hackers rule. They give themselves unfair advantages over other people. In co-op games, the effect that hacking has is reduced - there is less annoyance than there would be in PvP games. Just look at GTA Online as an example of why this wouldn't be a good idea.

PvP would also go against the spirit of Mass Effect. Cooperation is a main theme in the third game especially. Players should be standing together against an enemy, not fighting against each other.

Focusing solely on co-op multiplayer would also allow Bioware to put more resources into making a stable multiplayer experience - something ME3MP really wasn't.

If you agree with any of the above, and if you don't want PvP in Mass Effect Andromeda, sign your BSN name below. Hopefully PvP is not on the cards to begin with, but it pays to have a contingency plan. Let's see how many names we can get.

As much as I don't want to see PvP in the game because I think it would require too much revamping of the combat system from ME3 I will say that hackers generally shouldn't be a reason why not to do PvP. There are measures that a developer can and should be taking to prevent hackers from being that abundant.

I don't want any multiplayer. At least not the kind that forces you to do it for a war effort or something. And micro transactions is just begging.

Yes, but as they do exist and they are awful in PvP modes, and less so in co-op modes, it is something that still needs to be taken into account, even if it is not as a main point.

How on earth could you balance pvp in Mass Effect? I suppose you could have team death-match with one of each class on each side perhaps but everyone would want to be either Adept or Vanguard because those would be absolutely godly in PvP and every game would turn into keep the 'talent' alive long enough to win. As a counter-measure you'd also ideally need a decent sniping infiltrator to take those out early doors.

Perhaps you could mix death-match with co-op horde-mode where you are part of blue team or red team and who-ever has more surviving team-members at the end of the game/time-limit wins. Revives could be optional or difficulty appropriate.

You could also have straight horde-mode battles either with teams or individuals and who-ever has the best score at the end wins.

1v1 cage-fights with melee only characters would be interesting. You could have Krogans, Batarians, Vorchas, Drell (MMA).

You could mix in mech battles with Atlus tanks. Also you could adapt Evolve and have player vs creature battles with Thresher Maws. I've always wanted to re-enact the Krogan Rebellions. Turians Vs Krogans would be a fun mode.

I suppose i'd be intrigued enough to try it. It would require a large separate studio working full time with a huge budget comparable to Montreal and if EA wants to fund this who am I to stand in their way.

The amount of hackers depends on the countermeasures deployed against them. BF4 uses FairFight in combination with stat resets, and is very low on hackers despite its age. The Division uses a few half arsed measures and is a mess.

Tactical pvp games like MechWarrior Online require a high amount of cooperation or you lose. Shooters like BF4 and CS:GO benefit greatly from player cooperation.

And there's nothing like intelligent opponents instead of AI. Horde mode is SP sans story plus friends.

That said, I doubt you need to worry about pvp in a BioWare MP game. The class balance required for that seems out of their reach.

I want pvp.

I want a lancer.

I want incendiary ammo.

I want to hit someone with cryo blast and do a dance in front of them while they can't hit me back.

I want an arc projector positioned randomly in hard to reach places on the map.

I want to call in an airstrike and see the SR2 fly off in the distance after it hits.

I want to hit people with lift grenades and pew pew them with a predator 1 as an insult.

I want to fly straight up in the air with my widow and a jetpack.

I want to teabag a Quarian with a Vorcha chanting "Prothean no like you!"

Most of all I want a map where everything is about a race to the only mech on the field, that drops in from space.

So long as the developer takes appropriate counter measures, then it's almost a non issue.

MP is not necessary nor needed. The game will be better off without it. Putting it in just for the sake of having it is pointless. ME1 and ME2 didn't have or need MP and they turned out just fine.

PvP has a horrible tendency to homogenize everything as well.

If a competitive mode ever became a thing then you can bet that any of the more unique, outlier classes, like say the Geth Juggernaut, or Volus Engineer (to use ME 3 MP as an example) will be getting the boot. You can also count on the roster of kits and powers that you can use will be drastically reduced as well. Goodbye Asari, Turian, Krogan, Salarian, or Drell classes, with their unique stat modifiers and signature powers, everything's going to be humans only and if your really lucky, and manage to grind out to level 50, then you might get a purely cosmetic skin of a humanoid alien to slap on your avatar.

The only recent non-MMO title that I have seen to be capable of incorporating a diverse list of classes  along with unique powers and abilities in a co-op/vs environment has been Gearbox's BattleBorn. Every other title I've played that tried to incorporate some facsimile of asymmetrical RPG-like gameplay into a potential competitive setting have failed miserably.

Do you really care if the feature is optional and at which difficulty level?

While I'm not completely against PvP, I'd rather not have another 'Call Effect: Halomeda'. I'd rather have a colonoscopy. Again.

There's no indication that there will be any pvp, and if there ends up being any, I will ignore that feature.

I highly doubt that they would put PVP in ME:A. I can't think of any big, significant single player RPGs that also had PVP multiplayer. Heck, the only RPG at all I can think of with PVP multiplayer is Overlord.

I agree with those who think it is unlikely that you could build a decently balanced PvP mode without dumbing down the mechanics or powers.  I do not believe that all of the other things in the op necessarily follow from PvP mode.

I don't care for multiplayer one way or another. I'd prefer not being at all in MEA, and if it have to exist, would be Great if it was a separated game/DLC with no connection at all to the single player game.

But than make two different mp mode: A pvp arena and the coop mode.

Why not both?

There's no reason why PVE and PVP modes can't exist in the same game. They do in most MMOs for example. That said, I don't expect there will be a PVP mode. i just think it might be fun if there was an option to occasionally play against other players.

I would love to see a pvp option in mp.  As long as it was not the core of the game and a separate button you could push on the main screen.  For sure no as far as being the core of the game but I wouldn't mind an option.

I will say that there this is one element of PVP that I would not be looking forward to. The inevitable MP threads that go something like this...

I liked the team based wave-centered MP in ME3.... I hope they keep it that way, only a little more unique and challenging.

PVP might seem like Destiny copycat.

If we go by ME3, the multiplayer didn't took anything away from the SP. The game was great and the only bad thing was the Galaxy at War thing and it was just a bad decision and not the MP's fault.

If you don't want it just don't play it.

1. The game is well on the way, so decisions about game modes were taken a very long time ago. A 'formal petition' is 2-3 years too late.

2. That said, there seems little/no indication that there will be PVP for a host of reasons, but if there was I would expect it to be separate.

3. Multiplayer is wonderful (like ME3) but it does not not float everyone's boat, 1/3 don't like, 1/3 play a little, 1/3 love it... Needs to stay separate.

Cute post idea OP, but really no need for a 'contingency panic'...
