This is how I see it...

Origins: Human noble Warrior. There's a lot more personal story at sake with Arl Howe and being a noble, it doesn't make sense to be a Rogue.

Hawke: Rogue. You're not really a trained fighter so Warrior is ruled out and I feel the story is better when you have a family member that's an apostate Mage you're trying to protect.

Inquisition: Elf Mage. Lots of links to Elves in the storyline and being able to open up rifts with your hand makes more sense as a Mage.

Origins: Agreed, but Morrigan or Alistair romance/ marry Alistair and become Queen Consort or marry Anora and become Prince Consort while having Morrigan on the side line as a mistress.

Hawke: No Question but Mage.

Inquiston. Elf Mage. So agreed, lol.

Howe is not the only villain in the whole game. Besides, I'd argue that the City Elf has almost just as much reason to hate him since he led a brutal purge against your people and gloated about it to your face when you met him. I also think it gives that once Howe is dead, the City Elf a personal motivation to take Loghain out at the Landsmeet since you just found out he personally greenlit selling your people into slavery.

Hawke: Rogue. You're not really a trained fighter so Warrior is ruled out and I feel the story is better when you have a family member that's an apostate Mage you're trying to protect.

If you're not a mage, DA2 opens with Carver revealing that both you and him enlisted in Ostagar. So, yeah, you are a trained fighter.

I personally think Warrior Hawke is better because Hawke is both built like and carries themselves like a warrior.

I do agree, though, that I think the story works better when you have a family member that's an apostate that you're trying to protect.

Inquisition: Elf Mage. Lots of links to Elves in the storyline and being able to open up rifts with your hand makes more sense as a Mage.

Add in that it's better to be a female Elf Mage who romances Solas, who is so integral to the central story and the many revelations on the history of elves, magic, the Fade, etc. and I 100% agree.

What's wrong with having multiple? Never saw the point in picking one "canon" playthrough in either DA or ME.

My answer to this is always: what origin do you enjoy playing, and what makes for an interesting, dynamic story (both in DAO and the series as a whole)? Find out which of these is your priority and go from there. If you're lucky, they'll both align. :)

So... you play the default world state?

What Debatable means, I think, is that he* picks a different playthrough to import every time he rolls a new character in ME2, ME3, DAII, or DA:I. Which is my approach, since playing in a different world each time makes things more interesting. (And I'm really not sure where you got the impression that he plays the default. Was that a joke?)

*Making an assumption, feel free to correct if wrong.

Ladyofnemesis0108, I know this is a late reply, but going by what you've said, I'd venture to say that a female Dalish elf is your "canon" Warden.

Of course, you could have two or more different Dragon Age stories.

My canon is a male human mage, throughout all three games. (Warden, Hawke, Inquisitor)

But I have an "alternate" canon where they're warriors, not mages. A sort of "what if my character(s) didn't have magic?"

Core similarities (good morality, friendly towards companions, etc), but a few differences (who I romance, party setup, etc)

Basically, if I can't pick just one, I go with my most common playthrough and then pick a close second and call that one an alternate universe. ;)
