Where to farm FT Ring Velvet for Hidden Blades proc

I've run through that area before, but something changed in this run. There were way more zombies than I remember, and way more drops of FT Ring Velvet. Maybe it was running Nightmare with Even Ground and Walk Softly that made the difference? Previous runs weren't on Nightmare.
If you don't light the fire pits, the Corpses just keep on coming. Eventually, you'll pick up an FT Ring Velvet, and if the RNG loves you, it will be the right kind. Even the off-brand kind, 7.5% less mana/stamina cost, ain't too shabby.
In about 30 minutes, I picked 3 RT Ring Velvet, two were Hidden Blades, one was 7.5% mana/stamina cost reduction.

I have 4 of them that has 5 hidden blades. But i can't seem to find FT snowfleur skin. Could Bioware nerfed the RNG? I farm crazily in EDL lake and i get nothing.

Keep trying. You are just running unlucky with the RNG. I mentioned in another thread that I was trying to farm Great Bear Hide, not even FT, in EdL, but while waiting for bears to spawn, slaughtered some Snoufleur and got a couple of FT drops.
I never did get the Great Bears.

Great Bears always spawn if you run up and down the creek a couple of times, at least it has always worked for me. You can rinse and repeat as well, i.e. just return to the camp and redo it.

Clearing out all the ramparts across the entire Exalted Plains on nightmare always gets multiple fade touched ring velvet for me too
that is without avoiding the pit, I just fight until they stop spawning and then set fire to the pits (in the northern ramparts I needed to kill around 15 corpses at each body pit for them to stop coming out of the ground for a while, maybe they do respawn though if you don't set fire to the pit)

Ever try with trials on ? I always get pleasantly surprised when I get awesome FT as rewards Sometimes I even get multiple FT mats at once as a reward and they're always the good ones!!!
He's talking about farming and loot drops, not Special Shipments. It's true that Special Shipments give you some of the best FT mats, though I don't recall ever getting 1% heal on hit, and this is with many dozens of save scums.

Not for me. Nothing I did worked. Returning to camp. Zone out and zone in. And I did have Grizzly End enabled the whole time. Not a single bear spawned. Wolves galore, but no bears.

If I recall correctly, I had to return to camp to force them to respawn, with the pits not lit. I don't believe I had to zone out, but of course, that would never hurt.

But you don't mention trekking up and down the creek, have you tried it? Start from Gracevine Camp, go down to the creek, follow it down to the road up to Chateau d'Onterre, repeat. It has worked every single time for me and I must have done it +100 times. It might take a couple of treks, though.
EDIT: Tried it again, thinking I'd make a video (but that got screwed up), and happened upon a Great Bear almost immediately after getting to the river - plus I got a Fade Touched Great Bear Hide for the first time ever, so it was worth it even w/o the video.

I think Bioware could has secretly shifted the loot drops towards shipment. Tried save scumming on shipments and never ever get a Snowfleur FT!

I was talking about EdL, Emprise du Lion. Frozen Elfsblood. We crossed wires somewhere. You are talking about the Emerald Graves, I believe? Yeah, there I found Great Bears. And Giants.

I was super excited that the very first Special I got was FT Plush Fustian Velvet! I thought, wow, if that's the first thing you get, the rest must be incredible.I think Bioware could has secretly shifted the loot drops towards shipment. Tried save scumming on shipments and never ever get a Snowfleur FT!
It was all downhill from there.

Ah, sorry. I've faced Great Bears in EdL several times, but they might be completely random, not sure. Doesn't really matter IMO as you can farm them in Emerald Graves anyway.

That sucks. I've got two of them. What I hate is when I'm murdering the entire population of snorfleur population, half the time, I get the non heal on hit version. But yes, lots of FT ring velvet killing those zombies.

Talking about farming.. I'm trying to get Master Archon Staff Blade schematic.. farming the EDL merchant for.. gazillion times.. It never pops out. Any advice for the location for any T3 chest that drop that? Also.. kinda like the Battlemage Coat Arms freaking much and love to put those on my Inquisitor. But i have to chose the Battlemage Armor Arms for the stats.. ugh.. Gotta sacrifice fashion for practicality. Come on Bioware!
Also.. need some advice on Mage crafting. I only managed to get 67% crit and 124% crit dmg. Should i lower the crit chance for more damage?

I think someone smart on here said around 50% crit chance is good, unless you a rogue, then you may not have to pay so much attention to that stat if you're in stealth. My character stats:
She's KE btw, so no Ring of Doubt.
If you want to increase crit chance a bit, Varric has a passive that increases crit chance for the party by 5% I think.

Why that one in particular? Just for looks? Offensive metal slots aren't that great for a mage. I prefer the T3 Dragon Staff Blade (6 Off Leather, 3 Off Metal) or the Battlemage Staff Blade (6 Off Cloth, 3 Util Cloth). Both look good and provide good stats.Talking about farming.. I'm trying to get Master Archon Staff Blade schematic.. farming the EDL merchant for.. gazillion times.. It never pops out. Any advice for the location for any T3 chest that drop that?
Here are the two most popular places to farm for T3 schematics:
<a data-ipb="nomediaparse" data-cke-saved-href="http://dragonage.wik...m/wiki/Valeska"href="http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Valeska" s_watch"="">http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Valeska's_Watch
http://dragonage.wik...adle_of_Sulevin
I prefer the first one, Valeska's Watch, because once you clear it, you don't have to fight anyone every time your leave/return to reset chests. Not true in Sulevin. Also, Sulevin takes a lot longer to leave/return to. On the other hand, Sulevin has more T3 chests. The best ones in Valeska's Watch are behind a locked door, so you need a rogue to open it.
We feel your pain. Also, good luck getting the Battlemage Mail Arms. People spend several playthroughs getting that drop.Also.. kinda like the Battlemage Coat Arms freaking much and love to put those on my Inquisitor. But i have to chose the Battlemage Armor Arms for the stats.. ugh.. Gotta sacrifice fashion for practicality. Come on Bioware!
No. 67/124 is pretty near ideal for a mage, don't mess with it. If you have the opportunity to increase Crit Damage without giving up Crit Chance, like with an Accessory, go for it. Otherwise, without reducing your crit/crity, you can spend on other buffs like Barrier Damage (if you are running with the Walk Softly Trial) or Attack, which is always worthwhile.Also.. need some advice on Mage crafting. I only managed to get 67% crit and 124% crit dmg. Should i lower the crit chance for more damage?
Once you pick up some T4 cloth mats from the JoH DLC, you'll be able to boost your crit chance even higher, without giving up anything.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot, you can also use Medium Armor by removing the class restriction with Snoufleur leather. The T3 Medium armors have lots of Off/Util Leather slots for boosting Crit/crity. Sadly, they don't look any different from Light armors.

Close, but not quite right.
For anyone other than a Rogue Assassin, the crafting priority for crit chance vs. crit damage is crit chance first, crit damage second (or when you have no other choice), until you get crit chance up to about 50%. Then the priority reverses and crit damage comes first, followed by crit chance. You start with 40% crit damage buck naked, so use that head-start to build up crit chance first. Plus, there are other benefits to critting beside auto-attack damage, such as Flow of Battle for a 2H Warrior and Flashpoint for a mage, so building up crit chance to fuel those passive buffs is worthwhile in itself.
For a Rogue Assassin, the priority is different, because of the Assasin-only passive called Knife in the Shadows. If you attack from stealth, you automatically critical hit. So there is no point in crafting for higher critical hit percentage (barring those times when you are not in stealth). All your crafting should go into critical damage.

Getting via Trials Shipment is the easiest and fastest way, since you can quick save and quick load over and over. On my last playthrough I had 7 of those x5 Hidden Blades and I wasn't even that high level (under 20, for sure).

Correct me if i'm wrong.
Isnt that the net output damage is the product of base damage times crit chance times crit bonus so to get the maximum we have to keep crit chance and crit bonus as equal as we can given that their sum is a fixed number (i.e. we have to make the choice beetween 10 bonus and 10 chance for example)
In the formula there are also flank bonus and armor penetration but mages ignore armor and unless the opponent turns away from them dont have many chances to flank

Here's my KE Inquisitor after much crafting. Latest stats is 66/155 and with Varric buff, i'm getting 71% crit chance and 155% crit damage. Using a crappy grip + masterwork qunari blade. haven't add any rune to the staff yet ![]()
Also, it's kind of hard to get the avvar to spawn after i completed JOH. but their T4 cloth is really nice. used that to achieve the above. but i'm still getting my arse hands down with those avvars!.

Once the priority flips, you should not reduce your crit chance. You should at least maintain it. You can increase it, but only after you've done everything you can to increase crit damage.
The priority is about what to increase, assuming everything else stays the same.

If you want to stock up on FT Plush Fustian Velvet, yes, that's true. But to maximize Hidden Blades procs, it's best to use two FT slots, one with FT Plush Fustian Velvet for 5x Hidden Blades, and another with FT Ring Velvet, for 4x Hidden Blades.Getting via Trials Shipment is the easiest and fastest way, since you can quick save and quick load over and over. On my last playthrough I had 7 of those x5 Hidden Blades and I wasn't even that high level (under 20, for sure).
Since two FT masterworks of the same description and tier don't stack -- you just end up wasting an FT slot -- this combination is the optimal way to proc Hidden Blades on an Archer rogue.
For a DW rogue or a W&S warrior with 3 slots, you could add an FT Velveteen for 3x Hidden Blades also. That would be sick. If you roll below 10% three times on the same hit, you'll proc 12 Hidden Blades.

So what is the role of attack in the damage equation with crit chance and crit damage bonus?

There is thread explaining that http://forum.bioware...-and-mechanics/
In short the damage you do when you hit is: (Weapon damage - Armor) * (1+Attack%) so every point of Att adds 1% to the damage
This is then multiplied times crit_chance% * crit_bonus so is poinless to have a huge value of crit_bonus without good values of attack and crit_chance
The formula is more complex than that, the thread explains it well, but this is a good rule of thumb; for a mage ignore the armor part because your damage is elemental and for this reason there is no point to put armor penetration, that is a % of the opponet armor that is ignored (with 50 AP you ignore 40 of the the 80 armor of your opponent)

I have a HB*5 on a dagger and Walking Bomb on the other one and Cassandra has a HB*5 too when they proc together is a real mayhem not to speak when they proc inside a static cage
Before you said to farm chest in Waleska Watch; i tried doing that, getting only one item when there is more than one, like you do when tou farm FT obsidian in Redcliffe, in but in three runs i had no more chests because often a chest with two items respawns with just one and getting it turns off the chest respawning
