I wouldn't be surprised if the possible tactics game doesn't even have a single contemporary storyline. It could be like the Heroes of Dragon Age phone game, where it just has battles throughout Thedas history like the First Blight.

As long as it knows the DA lore, is not a freemium game, doesn't have a ridiculous amount of versions of the same characters nor over sexualized outfits that never existed, it will be fine.

I'd actually like a strategic game with a lot of the famous historical battles in Thedas, in theory. It depends on how they execute it.

I think it'd be more involved than that. There's even a tweet where Darrah says it'd have full-fledged characters and romances. There would have to be some timeline context if the game's going for an actual story.

RTS of Andraste's rebellion and march on Tevinter would meet all those, i think. You'd get your "romance" with a choice btwn Maeferath and Shartan (or Hadvar? or neither, if you like?), thus setting your own canon for if those rumors later on ever had truth to them. lol

Little-known fact: The title of The Daily Show theme song is "Dog on Fire."
Clearly, DA4 is about a team of satirical journalists poking fun at the corruption and decay of Thedosian society. Companions will include Ser Stefan du Colbert, an Orlesian templar who openly supports putting all mages on a rocket and shooting it into the sun; Jon Oliverus, a gangly mage who breaks off to form his own party where he does long-form quests and is allowed to swear; Samantha and Jason, a formidable warrior and her much less effective husband (so basically, Jaheira and Khalid, but funnier); and Gitmus, a nug formerly kept in a Tevinter slave camp.

It's possible they could use that time period, but you wouldn't be Andraste. BioWare doesn't do one gender PCs.

after hating dragon age every day of my life since september 2014 I realized that the franchise went a way where nothing really matters anymore... in fact nothing matters anymore because now everything matters, everything is too big, and no matter what they deliver it will be sad
I want to see more from Solas but it is way too epic (and as we all know epic means boring) on the other hand they could make something less epic, and not deal with Solas right now, but it would seem pointless
So I probably would/will have more fun with the tactics game with a sidestory than with the main story... as an advice for future IPs I'd say either go Mass Effect and do a trilogy or don't create such gigantic epic plots like Dragon Age because it is bound to become boring or restricted, to feel rushed or too long.
A good version of DA would be something more Indiana Jones in Thedas, where players are not supernatural, not even important and discover, SLOWLY the ancient secrets of the world, but never going toe to toe with demigods and godlike entities, more mistery and adventure and less Jesus in Heavy Armor x Satan Floating Islands. Edit: And not a big plot where everything connects but small, single game stories that uncover the depths of Thedas instead of brutalizing it with legends in your face (like Corypheus and the Dread Wolf). Imagine an exploration game set in undiscovered lands? You are part of an expedition, travel the seas and have to stabilish first contact with natives? Way better than sword slaying dragons and giants to the ground

"epic means boring" only if your dictionary is broken and you can't enjoy the fantasy genre wich is inherently epic. Epic calls for more epic, not less. Of course there is a limit where Epic becomes Ridiculous, but i don't think DA is there yet. After finding out the truth behind the Elven pantheon and my Inquisitor's LI true identity i'm not particularly thrilled to follow the story of Common Character Of No Real Importance Going About Their Life in a Farm Until Suddenly Finding Ancient Artifact That Is Of No Consequence To Them Because Everything Is Now Less Epic.
From what i get from your comment, your problem is you haven't considered having both aspects in the same game and this ain't the 80s, we can have complex, multilayered games yknow.
Basically, you want a Columbus simulator and not a proper fantasy setting, now that'd be boring. For the "less Jesus in heavy armor" , next PC could be not the Inquisitor, could be an agent/spy just doing their work to find Solas, or why not -this would be WAY more interesting than playing conquistador and i think it's been mentioned somewhere before- what if we got to play from within Fen'harel's rebellion? Imagine, PC is just an elf doing what they think is right for their people slowly realising that hey, tearing down the veil might not be the best thing to do for everyone's sake and they'd have to decide whether they stay and commit to the madness or switch sides over to the Inquisition -or what's left of it- to try to stop it.
We can have it all without it being as plain as "Indiana Jones in Thedas" wich we already had btw in case you didn't notice collecting info on artifacts and crashing into ruins to reveal long-lost knowledge was kind of a big part of Inquisition. Clearly in this analogy Corypheus is Adolf, and his minions are the nazis always racing you to the next big super important ruin getting in your way with their evil agenda for world domination ( I could also argue that Indiana is very much a Gary Stu and therefore super important to the plot in movies with his name as the title, specially considering the party is just an archeologist, his old father and a LI plus the casual assistant but somehow they always win against freaking nazis who are better equipped, funded and larger in numbers than them. Cool Dude with a whip and a notebook is Pure of Heart enough to cross over the Magical Invisible Bridge and somehow choose Jesus' Chalice of Modesty just to save dad from death with a sip from Holy Water of Life...that's super normal, totally not supernatural, very realistic, absolutely not fantastic, so credible yup, your "more like Indiana Jones" has been dragged, you're welks).
"And not a big plot where everything connects but small, single game stories that uncover the depths of Thedas instead of brutalizing it with legends in your face" what do you think all those sidequests where there for if not worldbuilding? DAI was my first DA game, templars, mages, Andraste and thedosian politics, i knew nothing yet will all those codices and sidequests i fixed that; if you pay attention you already got both, the little stories that don't connect much or at all with the big plot ( that chateau, for instance) and the big legends that connect to everything. After DAI i went to play your beloved DAO and it was the little things connecting in this big plot you seem to hate that made it even a better game. I mean, Fade Wall? What a surprising drop of foreshadowing! Loved it.
DA4 could be anything but if you want it to be just world exploration and socializing with little next to no fantastic elements, then go play something else.

Well, apparently, nothing much was going on with the Wardens there, though, as Hawke is safe and sound in epilogue slides with Varric in Kirkwall and no mention of issues in Weisshaupt occur in Tresspasser, despite the two year gap. I think that possible plot point has been dropped or put on hold. Though, I suppose they could have simply resolved any issues before Hawke(or Warden ally) got there...
Or perhaps Hawke really did make the place explode (as s/he walked away without looking) and no one wants to talk about it?
There is most definitely something going on at Weisshaupt...when you give Ranier to the wardens...after Trespasser it mentions how all activity coming out of Weisshsupt goes silent

If you romance Blackwall but make him a Warden, the epilogue slides also mentions that after Rainier's death the Inquisitor gets a package with a bundle of his things, which includes white griffon feather, if I remember correctly.

Well I thought you missed the point completely, and you did, but you redeemed yourself in your last phrase. Any human being with even a little self respect, let's say, someone who begs for being enslaved (in all and every way) but at least recognizes themselves as a human being (this being the tiny little spark of respect that they have), should stay away from Dragon Age franchise.
And don't bother answering me, at least on future posts, you seem to be new here, I don't post to listen or to be listened, I just like pointing out how much I despise Bioware and the franchise... well at least after DAI, before that I loved their RPG games (not action and shooting sh*t, meaning Jade Empire and Mass Effect are out), I didn't even had an account, I felt no need to comment on their masterpieces, but DAI is deserving of all hatred I can spare. So just ignore me if you see any post, and memorize the way I write, easily recognizeable, and just ignore me forever (you could ignore me as an user but they are always banning me and I'm always creating new accounts to hate the game, so you better learn to recognize my speech or ignoring all hatefull speeches altogether... whatever fits you better). I felt like advising you since you seem to not know me or not have recognized me so, please don't waste your time. I'm just a giant mass of hatred that wants Dragon Age franchise to fail, fall, and disappear forever.
