Now before this game came out, I had soooo many "main" characters throughout Dragon Age Origins/2. By the time I got to Inquisition and had to set things in Dragon's Keep, it was a nightmare for me to pick which save state to pick between my characters.

In Origins I have so much.
Human Noble (Classic, save everyone King.) Shield & Sword
Dwarf Noble (Hates magic and loves power) Shield & Sword
Dalish Elf (Anti Human but willing to lend a hand) Shield & Sword
City Elf (Honestly I forget, I think he saved everyone) Dual Daggers, hey something different lol.
Human Mage (Paladin, so hates anything UNHOLY!) Arcane Knight

It was so hard to pick which one I wanted to be my main for Inquisition lol. And that was just in Origin's, I still had to pick a main story in Dragon Age 2!

With DA:O I had made one character per origin back then to unlock all of the origin/Li specific achievements, so I had plenty of characters and endings to chose from.
In the end, I settled with my archer lady Mahariel.

All origins were really good, IMHO, so all characters were good and had good reasons for being the "main one".
In the end I went with my archer lady Mahariel because it's the playthrough where Alistair is king with Anora and Loghain is alive and a warden.

DA2 is easier: I only have one canon Hawke, who has been hiding happily somewhere with Anders.

I try to make sure that there's a good mix of genders, races and classes in each world state so Thedas isn't be saved by suspiciously similar people all the time. Well, as much as possible with every Hawke being human. (Except that my first world state is all female protagonists, because I always play a woman initially if the option is available.)

 

Whichever character I want to play right away gets the 'canon' world state matching up with the first Warden I played.

First off, it depends on who i like. I really like Alistair's romance and i like being Queen, so I romanced him as Queen Cousland, Fairly simple. DA2 was a game full of the things i enjoyed about the game. DAI was the same, so Cassandra came up on top.
