I understand it is difficult to realise what I'm saying, but the voiceover should be done not in a studio but in a real enviroment, that would make such a difference!....recording voices inside a real tunnel,  outside, in a huge hall and wherever the game takes....

Also and even more difficult is to create  voices that belongs to that specific world and that specific  time that the game tries to recreate...almost all games don't consider this factor...for example the voices of a game set in a phantasy medieval age MUST NOT sound like belonging to a modern word...it does not work in my opinion.

The Actors should focus their attention on how to recreate that feeling of the past, or the mystery of the future...recreate a feeling just with the sound of the voice. I know is a delicate quest and difficult to achieve but of  paramount importance.

What do you think?

Why go to all of that trouble when they can record in a crystal clear studio and then add the effects later, thus saving an enormous amount of money to move their equipment to outside environments that would need a million extension cords....

Disagree. As long as the artist is given something for their imagination it doesn't matter that they are situated in a studio rather than a physical set.

Plus it wouldn't be completely non sensical to build physical sets for a game.

Ignoring the absurd logistics of this request, what about non-location-specific squad banter? Do you record each line again in each distinct acoustic space? What do some of these alien worlds even sound like?

I also think you vastly underestimate the capability of sound engineers. If perfectly diegetic dialog was such a priority, a sound engineer could get the desired result for the fraction of the cost. As of now, game audio is good enough (which is really quite good) for what it costs.

You, know.

You can fake those effects with a 1998 digital boombox.

Right?

Let alone a modern day recording studio charging you a few grand for four hours work.

If you're taking actors out into the real world you might as well bring cameras and make a movie out of it.

For me it is like the modern movies made in a studio, being surrounded by a green screen does not help at all to perform, in fact there is a huge difference in quality compared with the films where actors are immersed in a real set. I totally understand the concept of cost, but I think the difference could be amazing...sugar vs saccarine...I suppose...cheers! .-)

I think you don't give the voice guys nearly enough credit.

I agree bioware should film outside, they should strive for this kind of audio quality:

I seem to remember them saying one of Solas' lines in DAI was recorded over the phone, if that helps.

Movies were always made in a studio. They just build less sets than before. But certainly the sounds are a big post-production effect.

It would be cool to redo a scene using the ''outside the recording studio'' technique and see how it turns out...

Every scene recorded in a studio sounds the same, no matter how many trickeries has been used...at the end all the games made in a studio will sound the same, but a real enviroment is unique all the time, the sound of a place  is so peculiar that will add personality to every scene....I understand tough that is much easier and less expensive using a studio....choices. Cheers!:-)

This sounds about as smart as that moronic director who wants to record SW ep. 8 in outer space. Because, ya know, cgi stars look too fake.

Don't get me wrog, they did an amazing job, I agree with that, I wasn't referring explicitly to ME, but in general..most of the game have voiceover that sound coming from a studio and with a feeling and tone of voice not in tune with the situation or the age and time depicted in the game....I think we have an emotional ear that is able to spot immediately this incongruency....breaking the suspension of disbelief.

Thank you for your reply , cheers! (in response to Arcian)
