Just curious what characters are the favorites for people to play?

EDIT: I do mean most FUN to play for you.. not necessarily the ones you played the most (already a thread for that).

After getting all the characters to at least 50 missions each, and finishing the 250 challenge for half the characters, it seemed like an interesting time to evaluate it myself.

This is the list of how much I tend to like playing with them, NOT THE LIST OF WHICH IS MOST POWERFUL.  That said, it isn't fun to play underpowered characters, so the power certainly affects how I feel about them.

I lumped them into four tiers, with no specific order within each tier.

TIER 1 (most fun to play):  Archer, Avvar, Elementalist, Reaver, Silent Sister

TIER 2: Arcane Warrior, Assassin, Duelist, Keeper

TIER 3: Hunter, Saarebas, Templar, Virtuoso

( virtuoso would likely be higher except for hand cramp )

TIER 4 (least fun): Alchemist, Katari, Legionnaire, Necromancer

(should probably give legionnaire another chance, it was the first I really did the 250 grind with)

Most fun

Archer, Avvar, Duelist, Saarebas, Alchemist

Fun

Katari, Necromancer

Just OK

Arcane Warrior

Elementalist

Legionnaire

Silent Sister

Hunter

Would rather run my genitals through a cheese grater than play again

Assassin

Templar

Keeper

Virtuoso

Reaver

Thank you for making me reflect on what I find is actually fun to play.  Was a little surprised when I reflected on what I found fun versus what I use to promote.

Arcane Warrior is great for exp but pretty dull.  That said I would still play it....just.  I'm using it for Slayer but once done might never touch it again.

3 Rogues in the top tier of fun but cannot bring myself to play anything that will not make my character stronger.  The self analysis is not welcome and says a lot about me :(

Saarebas... KABOOMGA ! makes it really fun.

Archer .... having tried it again recently, that spike trap is a lot of fun

Duelist .... I enjoy this A LOT

Avvar... having Fire, Lightning, Ice and Physical attacks, all that AoE and movement speeds, what's not to love

Alchemist .... taunt, freeze, smash the hell out of everything

Poor Reaver... strong characters are not always fun.

Hopefully we get more responses and people continue to put them in tiers.   If we get enough, I may run some comparisons on the variance between different characters.  On the quick eyeball, it is interesting how much variability there is between just the three of us... well, except that Avvar is in the top for all of us.  Indeed, what is not to love about him, once you get enough promotes to not be too squishy.

I just said the same thing in another thread a couple days ago.  It is too bad that the advantage of raising cunning is capped at 200.  I guess it still raises your prestige score, if you are looking at your standing on the leaderboards though.. :: shrug ::

Edited OP to make it clear.. I did mean fun factor, not the one you necessarily have played the most.

I don't believe you find Reaver the most fun ;)

Tier 1

Archer, Hunter, Avvar, Necro

Tier 2

Katari, Reaver, Saarebas

Tier 3

Alchemist, Assassin, Lego, Zither, Duelist, Arcane Warrior

Tier 4

Keeper, Elementalist, Silent Sister, Templar

Some interesting preferences people have. I think I'd enjoy the Templar more with a certain weapon, but I can't bring myself to enjoy her knowing that there's something out there that'd make it much more efficient. Thankfully already have 250 Lego games, but I always preferred him to Belinda (in terms of gameplay :P).

Nothing will stop me going rogue at least once per session, though.

For me, I would say:

Lego – most bad-ass character in the game.  Highest XP generator if played right.  Rock (Promotion Lord) told me when I was starting out that there was nothing else that could compare to the Lego for generating XP and I’ve certainly found that to be true.  It’s rare using this character does not result in a two game per promotion for me.

Virtuoso – Has the most versatile powers in the game.  Very high XP generator if played right.  Another two game promotion capable character.

Saarebas – another character with versatile powers and high XP potential.

AW – boring and extremely simple to play.  However, high XP potential makes him a good addition to any team.

I enjoy playing everything else and use each in a rotation (except rogues) but nothing else is even close to the tier the above are in for me.

Vlad, you mostly mentioned which classes are most advantageous to use.  I am curious, which do you have the most FUN with?  That is, all XP and rewards being equal, which characters would you gravitate toward playing?

It is interesting to see your experience evaluation though.

Templar, Assassin, & Keeper. My sentimental favourite is Keeper but that haircut....  Not only is it SO EFFING UGLY it was LAZY programming.       *takes deep breath* If it was even close to the image on her card she would be just great.

That being said, I have really enjoyed playing Templar, she is just so cute and fun. And now that she can tear up Qunari on Perilous I REALLY REALLY like her. I can't tell you how good that feels. (If you knew how, almost irrationally, much I hate the Chantry, you would know how amazing it is I play Templar at all) XD

Tier 1

Archer, Duelist, Silent Sister, Avvar

Tier 2

Alchemist, Reaver, Vitruoso, Saarebas

Tier 3

Templar, Legionnaire, Katari, Arcane Warrior

Tier 4

Assassin, Keeper

(Have not Played)

Hunter, Elementalist, Necromancer

The first classes I played were Keeper, Legionnaire, and Duelist.  Keeper because I didn't know any better, Legionnaire out of survival necessity, and Duelist for fun.  Duelist is still by far my favorite class.  Silent Sister gets a little more play just because she's a little more efficient for me right now.

I really like to play fast.  Ability cool downs and crit or kill related stamina regen help a lot.

If I had Hakkon's Wrath, Vitruoso might be a Tier 1.  Alchemist might also be tier 1 with Hakkon's Mercy.  I usually Saarebot for NM, so if I switch to kabooms, and to a lesser extent had Hakkon's Wrath, she might be Tier 1 also.

I enjoy the Reaver, it's just very dry.  PI amulet might help with this to add an additional ability instead of needing combat roll.

A lot of my fun ratings are the lvl 1 experience, hence Tier 3.  Templar/Legionnaire as so slow.  They get immensely better, but still slow.  Katari I'm giving a chance but I'm not really a fan.  Arcane warrior is just the most survivable so he gets a lot of NM play.  Tolerable, but there's really not a lot to it.

Keeper was the first class I played.  After playing everyone else, I went back and it's just not very good!  lol  If I wanted to provide barrier I would've been a Saarebas and if I wanted to do damage I would've been anything else.  Assassin was just not very fun.  The other dagger rogues are far more fun.

The change to Counterstrike put me off Lego.

Shocking change to combat one single enemy unit....

Is there anyone out there that disagrees? ...

I know we all have reasons we like to play the game and mine, as I’m sure everyone else’s, will differ.  I'm not a fan of Leader-Boards other than it is nice to see one's hard work reflected and don't seek to play just for promotions other than they are very useful to have so good to obtain.

Rather I really enjoy studying a game and finding out how to be as efficient as possible.  In that regards, I see this game is about taking and giving hits from/to every enemy one can.  These characters simply do that the best which I why I enjoy them the most.

So even if XP and rewards were equal, I would still enjoy the Lego best because there is simply nothing like taking a Lego and getting every enemy on the map mad at you and then trying to survive the torrent of incoming attacks.  It’s why I liked the Krogan’s best in ME3.  Bad-ass come at me fighting style just never gets old.

I’d still put the Virtuoso up there as well due to its great versatility.  I’ve seen many play it and it is simple to just PC or in some cases HL everything to death but the character can be so much more.  At least for me, it’s not about simple target elimination (and that can be detrimental for XP purposes) but rather to promote everyone gets hits and taking hits on support coverage to the greatest extent possible.  Doing that requires changing songs quickly and picking the right one for the right moment which can take a long time to master.  That type of complexity in a character also appeals to me.

Great post overall.. but I really liked this part particularly.

As for the virtuoso, I agree.  What is also interesting is how you can switch between dps and support modes seamlessly, as necessary throughout the fight.  Suddenly realize someone needs a little bit extra umph or defense, you can go over there and lay it on them.  I just wish I could hold the strum button and it would auto-strum.

The poor guy has a thing for Maryden (a lute playing bard) in the SP canon storyline but sadly he gets shot down.

That is what mods are for!

My current campaign (put aside while I focus on multiplayer) was using a mod so my mage is wearing the elementalist armor with the nice big book on his back and the pointy wizardy hat.  I wonder if there is a mod to play as a bard...

i.e., this one..

Alchemist is my favorite.  I have the most fun playing this class.  This is one of the few classes I could do nightmare with, earlier in my promotions.  Even before I acquired hakkons mercy/silencer.  When I still had crap weapons and hardly any promotions, I could do decent damage in perilous, and stay alive if I was playing okay.  I also got some great advice on the balloon mine glitch one day which helped tremendously.  I also like the certain extent of strategy to the characters play style as well, and lots of opportunity for teamwork.  I am really going to enjoy playing the alchemist for quite a while, since I am nowhere close to the 200 cunning cap.

Other Favorites:

Arcane Warrior

Silent Sister

Legionnaire

Saarebas

Hunter

Avvar

Reaver

Keeper

Elementalist

Necromancer

Tier 1
Archer, Alchemist, Saarebas, Katari

Tier 2
Hunter, SS, Avvar, Keeper, Lego

Tier 3
Templar, Reaver, AW, Assassin, Elementalist

Tier 4
Necro, Virtuoso, Duelist

The list above is definitely in order of "fun" gameplay. But for comedic banter (which sometimes, I just have to play for...ya know, to mix things up ;) ), it would be the following:

Alchemist, Avvar, Katari, Duelist, Templar, Virtuoso, Elementalist

and on occasion (meaning with the right group - again, banter wise):

Reaver, AW and Necro

So, it's great when I get lucky with the group I am playing with, if some of my most favorite gameplay characters get to team up with some of the best banter characters (though, I have a couple of crossovers - example: Luka and Katari). Love it. B)

The Avvar seems to be the one very often in Tier 1 or 2. ^^

He has a  cool appearance (well, not in drakescale armor), he´s durable , fast and his abilities are kinda of a close range spell casting and very colourful :)

That´s more like how an Arcane Warrior should be :D
