The reason for this is that Asari can read your minds while you meld with them and you can't stop them from doing it. You also can't control the extent of the mind reading that is happening.

Personally, an individual's mind is their own private and personal thing. To just infringe upon that privacy so easily is well, not only wrong but creepy.

For example, when Shepard romances Liara, he or she has no say on the privacy of his or her minds and in fact, its never brought up which I thought was very weird. Liara practically has a free reign on Shepard's mind which is not right.

The same goes with Protheans except its worse because all it requires is a single touch.

Yeah I know, its why my Shepards don't romance Asari but its weird that people don't bring up the privacy of one's mind when discussing Asari romance.

Asari also open their mind and feelings to the partner. That is what makes them especially attractive

I get what you mean, it is a little creepy.  Thane going into a trance remembering past events, Javik reading people and knowing who used to be on the Normandy, asari mind-melding....it is all a little off putting.

So my last 2 Sheps haven't liked Liara or Javik or Thane much at all, but this time I'm embracing their uniqueness and just going with it, and the Liara romance is pretty great so far.

I do think he was smart enough to not read her mind. she has a weird fetish for his kind. I will not be surprised that her mind can get just as naughty as Joker's mind and Yes I am aware of his porn collection.

to the OP, it is normal to be creep out.

I have to agree I mean some people can be open about having their minds touched and having a connection transcending time and space... Not me.. I'm old fashioned <.< this is most likely why I ship liara and javik better they have that touchy feely connection xD

Way i see it is you waste $50 taking a human female out, feeding her and then trying to get her to accept your breeding requests. You do this 3-5 times for some reason she wont explain before she gives you some, not a lot or for a long time; but enough to make sure you stick around for a while. Then she wants you to move in and love her unconditionally, pay for more food and support her without hesitation, even when she's wrong. Why? Coz she touched your admiral and she will stop touching him to punish you. Meanwhile, the whole time you're there she has complete control over you due to the fact you can't read the evil wenches mind and she wont tell you what she's thinking. She's literally waiting for you to get lucky and guess!

I'd rather bang the blue strippers who offer up front to let you read their minds and are fairly open about the fact they enjoy threesomes.

As for Javik, he's creepy. I imagine he has a collection of heads he touches on occasion, just so he can see the chemical markers of that persons last moments as he killed them.

Yeah, the mind-linking has always completely put me off the asari, even without the gay thing. The fact that Liara is plot required to be more intimate with Shepard than most third dates when she's still a virtual stranger has ensured that I will never romance her. Especially when she brings up that it's essential for asari mating. And the 'gift' she offers at the end is really uncomfortable because no matter what kind of gesture it is for asari, it's still way way way way WAY beyond this human's comfort level. Consent is a real thing, and this feels like a really uncomfortable amount of grey being put into that situation, a situation that should NEVER be grey.

The protheans ability is less of a problem for me, since it seems like Javik only draws surface impressions - it's like reading a medical scan more than a telepathic reading. The exception is when he grabs Shepard and reads how the war is going, which seemed to require a concentrated effort on his part. Also with the protheans, from what he says, it's habit, instinct, more than any kind of conscious decision to do so. It's like vision, it's not something that can just be flipped off like a switch.

I don't date, I accept breeding requests. But I once made the mistake of breeding a human, she never shut up and yet said nothing of value for almost 30 years.

Always find them creepy. Have you seen the wrinkly folds behind their head? It will take more than just a pretty face and boobs to make me forget that.

I thought of nothing about it until I start playing a Colonist Shepard and then the whole psychic melding thing was invasive. She watched her family and friends being killed and she was buried alive for days until Alliance rescued her, and Liara thought this made her strong and attractive because she reads Shepard's past? Also the conversation after Liara's extranet-stalking talks about how she was romantically inexperienced even for an Asari maiden. Since I never romance her before, that's when I realized that Shepard always mentally deflowered her.... and I suppose the fainting act was her trying to hide her arousal or orgasm.. so I kinda get why she evolved into an overly-attached girlfriend who keeps trophies of the things you died in.

Javik is a creep? Hell yeah. But at least he keeps it to himself.

Isn't it consensual, though? Shepard is aware of the mind-melding capabilities of asari. Knowing that much, I would think they are willingly forfeiting that kind of mental privacy going into a sexual encounter with one.

The 'meld' is a deliberate, UNMISTAKABLE, process. This isn't a matter of "I touch you and now I know your deepest secrets." It's easy to interrupt by just stepping away or slapping the asari, and it is *impossible* to mistake it for anything else; it is not a casual act.

Thus, it is a choice on the part of both parties and not something the asari do as a spur of the moment thing. It's also a two-way street, metaphorically speaking; while their minds are in tune with yours, yours are in tune with theirs, and information passes both ways.

I don't find that creepy as it is very clear there is consent inherent in the act.

Protheans, on the other hand, they are creepy. A mere touch and they know far too much about you, and despite the fact Javik doesn't seem to do it casually directly to other living beings (witness his unwillingness to shake hands with Shepard on first being awoken), he sure has no compunction about touching objects people leave behind, etc. And when he feels the need to read someone, he does it without care for the consequences.
