If I'm not wrong, the DLC ending is the actual ending, since it supposedly happens after the main game IIRC.
Hence the "but I digress" part. And there's not really a "supposedly" about it, the Awakened DLC to Dead Space 3 picks up where the end of the main game left off and continues the story after Isaac and Carver kill the Tau Volantis Moon.
Though now that I think more about it, I do wonder how that Unitologist cult in the DLC sprung up so fast, considering they aren't in the main game and the DLC starts immediately after the end of 3. Then again, the Unitologists in 3 are completely and totally insane anyway, so it's not too much of a leap.
