I never cheat on my first play-through but after a couple of them, I usually start adding cheats and interchange them with new ones. I did it for DAO and DAII. I must say that, since I only played DAI once and I disliked it so much, I didn't even give myself the chance to look for cheats, which I suspect are mostly cosmetic because of the infamous Frostbite engine.
I also use reading guides/walkthrough
As an example, I'm currently playing DAII and I have installed a huge amount of cheats. It's difficult to put them all together because I also make changes throughout the same playthrough, Like using different armors for the companions in different acts or make Carver grow a bit older throughout the years, from Act1 to Act3. For DAII there is also a chance to add a 4th companion or just bring a different 3rd one than the options that the vanilla game gives you (there are about 60 different choices for alternative companions, from Salit, to Cassandra, to The Arishock, to High Dragons).
I also change some of the textures of Kirkwall neighborhoods.
The modd below, that says Andres, gives him a very effeminate manners and walking/running. It was muy personal revenge for having to endure his endless whining and ridiculous hostility towards the rest of my companions. lol

This one, shows Hawke with one of the many cheated new haircut, new champion armor textures and new skin tone color. right beside to my Dark Fenris.

Salit, as a companion helping me kill some bad guys in Lowtown.

Hawke, as the scion of the Amell Family with Merrill in her black armor.

My mage Hawke in an assasin modded armor and hood, switching his staff for a pair of huge fire daggers with modded extra fire effect, helping Fenris to kill his old master.

A different Hawke, using a new face model, skin tone, scars added....and some chest hair.
