Back in 2012 it was revealed that there was early development on a FPS spinoff titled Team Assault. It was ultimately cancelled but I was wondering. What are your thoughts on not just this spinoff but potential other spinoffs in the Mass Effect universe that would have been set in other gaming genres?

I guess a multiplayer-only team based PvP with vehicles (as long as it is not a blatant Battlefield-ripoff, nor a content wise pretty much castrated Star Wars Battlefront) could work with a Mass Effect theme. If they bring back some classic ME1 themes, like being a true military sci-fi, iconic weapons, armors, vehicles, music and enviroments. Not necessarilly an FPS, could work as a TPS too.

I also see a space combat simulator as a viable spinoff, though I have little experience with this genre so others have to help me out on this one.

I don't know about an RTS. It is difficult to get it right, and do not become a painfully average experiance.

Glad it was cancelled. Wouldn't have fit in the series. Either way, there's a Mass Effect mod for Star Wars Battlefront II. A suitable replacement.

I'm glad it got the axe. The industry already churns out too many shooters as it is, and if the game sold more copies than any of the previous RPGs, you'd never see another ME RPG again.

Hadn't specifically heard of it myself, but I'd have the same reservations as already stated.  It's the way ME games are that makes them great, so to detract from that entirely into a shooty shooty game could possibly harm the franchise as we know it.

I've no idea how financially successful ME3MP was in its own right after all them microtransactions but if it was successful, you can bet your bottom dollar that there'll be more of that to come.  Not bashing the MP or saying I don't want it, I thoroughly enjoy(ed) it, but it always means dev time that could be spent making a better SP experience - I'm looking at you 'skateboard Aria'.

That's a good point, sad though it is it could happen.
