Not a proper bug, but quite annoying and something that should have been fixed IMO as it's actually "game breaking" in places: With Even Ground on (from the Trespasser Trials), Magical Barriers can be impossible to destroy on higher levels. At least on Nightmare, which I'm always playing on. My "fix" is to turn off Even Ground and turn the difficult down to Casual, save, exit the game and reload the save. The Magical Barrier still has the same level as the player, but it can be destroyed easily.

Neat! So you are saying that after the reload, you set it back to Nightmare + Trials, but the barrier stays as if it were Casual?

Tangential question: does the Chromatic Greatsword do enough elemental damage to take down a promoted barrier? If so, why not give us a Chromatic Dagger and Chromatic Bow? Then we could still run without mages in the party.

You can still destroy them, even the promoted ones. Just need to craft some top tier staff wiith best damage and use staff autoattacks from the right distance and angle so that all last hits in autoattack sequence hit. I had a promoted lvl 27 barrier in Still Ruins. It took about 3 or 4 minutes of hammering (on PC you can just put some weight on the R key and have a cup of tea in the mean time) but eventually it went down. And my Solas does not even have his abilities assigned. But I could not do it with some generic staff I had in the inventory as its regeneration rate is quite high. It was also perceptive. :o

I'm italian and i stopped long ago to play games translated because i understand english a lot better than translations ;)

I understand english well too, but Dragon Age is one of the few games, which actually got a german dub (german dubbed games are rare) and I actually like the german voices. (and beside 2-3 instances with translation errors, the dub is really good) Tbh the only reason why I switched to english was that the german young male Inquisitor voice is IMO just too cute for a human Reaver. (I love him as my canon Inquisitor who's an elf, but I can't imagine as my current human Inquisitor)

It probably wouldn't even be a translation error, if most german words weren't gendered, but well, they are.

We don't just get "The Hero of Ferelden", we get "Der Held von Ferelden" (male) and "Die Heldin von Ferelden" (female) so that makes it more complicated.

I think the problem is that Bioware didn't give them exact statements to the sentences. Someone from BW (I do not remember who, it was in a youtube interview I watched months ago) said they do not want to dictate too much in regards to the translations, because of stuff like foreign phrases (like "It's raining cats and dogs" this phrase in EXACT this form doesn't exist in german, here it just "rains in streams") and so the translators are left to their own devices, which then leads to errors and mistakes like the friend/girlfriend mix-up.

No, I destroy the barrier on Casual, w/o Trials, and then turn them back on. Should have said that I have Walk Softly on as well, so it might be Even Ground + Walk Softly that makes (some of) them undestructible, the latter perhaps upping the barrier.

Haven't tried, or perhaps I did during my last playthrough when I equipped Vivienne with the best staff I could make. I'm not even close to getting the barrier down on the promoted ones (I guess, as some are just hard to destroy and some are seemingly indestructible), so never make a dent on the health. Well, even if they are possible to take down the way you say (and I don't doubt you), they are highly annoying as is and should have been fixed IMO. It's no fun battling super-boss Magical Barriers.

From my experience, it's Walk Softly that cause this problem. Simple reloading should solve this... as long as you're not unlucky and get promoted barrier again.

I've tried reloading several times, the only thing that has "fixed" it for me is the method I use.

But I think you might be right about Walk Softly causing it as it's the regenerating barrier that is the problem rather than the amount of health.

In the italian game there is no voice dub, just text and subtitles, or maybe there are but i havent installed them. I play with english text also because it's a lot easier to find help on the net if you use the english text. I need the subtitles because even if i perfectly understand Varric i dont get a word when Sera speaks, and i honestly have an hard time to get the sense of what she says even reading it

The real problem with dubbing arent the idiomatic forms like raining dogs and cats, every half good translator knows that, as much as the syncing of the voice; sometimes the translated form is shorter or longer than the original and the translator/dubber has to change the phrase to keep the syncing; italian dubbers of english pictures are very good at that even if you have Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone and Dustin Hoffman speaking with the same voice.

About gender italian is the same as german, we just dont have the neuter, but i dont think its more a problem for translators than having to change he/she according to the gender of the speaker

Yes, it's an annoying side effect of Walk Softly. A reload has always worked for me - there's no pleasure in plugging away at a seemingly infinite barrier. I suppose you collect trial reward points for it, but...no...the angry barrier must go

In the german DAO/DA2 games you don't even have choice and have to just accept the german VO.

DAI was the first game where you could download the english VO package to switch languages.

I have the subtitles enabled too, I already did when I played in german, because the ambient dialogue (chanters, people in Val Royeaux etc) were sometimes just too quiet to understand.

True. Tho the german syncing is good too as far as I know. Here an example from when I still played with the german VO.

I wished I had knew about reloading before to get the promotion away. Once it took me 15 minutes to kill a promoted barrier.

As far as I know, DAO and DA2 have two ways of changing to English. You can't do that in game itself, but you can:

1) install them from Origin running in English (installs whole game in English, even subtitles)

or

2) change VOLanguage (and Locale if you want subs in English as well) in DragonAge file (\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age Origins\Settings and \Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age 2\Settings) from whatever you have to en-us (works for both games)

Oh thanks! That's good to know =)

Reminds me that I should contact the EA Support, I can't reinstall DAO anymore  It always gives me an Error regarding SetupAddIns.exe not being able to install. No idea why. :(

The only promoted barriers I've had problems with are when I don't have a mage or templar in the party. When I do, casting Dispel/Spell Purge on the barrier's barrier seems to work fine. I haven't needed top tier gear.

I haven't tried using reloading to reroll the barrier. Seems like that should work.

In any case, I'll add it as an annoyance.

Oops, I missed this, meant to comment on this as well: there's a key binding for automatically auto-attacking a target. You can just use that key. I set it to F. No more holding down keys. Just tap F one time and your character will auto-attack until the enemy is dead or you are.

Visual Glitch: Crafted (maybe also uncrafed, haven't tested yet, will maybe later) Hakkon's Mercy Dagger does not enter stealth together with wielder.

It does not have any effect on Stealth itself (enemies do not see chara) but it is a little weird to look at.

Spoiler

And yes, this glitch is replicable. It happened in ALL my PTs and also in Multiplayer.

It did not work in multiplayer. After your post, I tried in SP and it works just fine.

You can also go in tactical, target the barrier, and order the attack; they will keep attacking even if you go take a coffee

Does not work with AI turned off.

This is a damn good idea. No one really thinks to keep all the relevant information in one topic like this long after a game is released.
