Strange cover. Not really fitting previous BioWare book covers.

I don't exactly disagree with most of what she said. It's more that the issues I have with ME3 don't seem to bother her, and her issues with ME1 were a complete non-issue for me. In any case, I see no indication she'd have a cavalier attitude to ME's lore. Also, her radical stance on issues of gender and race doesn't dominate the books I read of her. Meanwhile, these books *are* well-written, which is more than you could ever say of anyone involved in the trilogy's writing except for Patrick Weekes, and his books came out after ME.
Hey, I didn't imply anything... just thought you might be interested. I think the OP might be a hoax though. The book Jemisin is scheduled to release in August 2016 is The Obelisk Gate.

LOL. Nice one. if it was a hoax and we fell for it. No damage done in any case.

I guess it remains to be seen if it is or isn't. It would be an easy cut/paste off a book site to make a cover and odd that an author would be releasing two completely different books in the same month... but stranger things have happened.

So, i googled the ISBN number and found this: https://issuu.com/mw..._2016_catalogue
In page 39, it says that the book will be released in November 29.

August seems a bit too early, considering that MEA is not coming this year, anyway. It maybe a placeholder date or this entire thing may be indeed a weird joke.

I notice that also includes a David Gaider written Dragon Age book which we know isn't happening, but was planned at some point.

I'll buy it, whether it's sh*t or not. I have all of the novels and graphic novels. So it'll fit right in with my ME collection.

Do people actually read these things? Or is it like Halo where it exists so you can say it exists even though nobody reads it?
<<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>
Halo books (14 so far).
The first three books Flood, First Strike and Fall of Reach are excellent and are written by well known sci-fi authors, Eric Nylud and William C. Dietz.
Mr. Nylund has a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry and a Master Degree in Theoretical Chem Physics.
Mr. Dietz was in the Marine Corps and a full time writer of mostly military sci-fi since 2002.
Sadly, I am not familiar with Jemisin. She is a speculative fiction writer and her works include cultural conflicts and oppression. I'm wondering what the story will be about with the prequel book Andromeda: Initiation. Is it about the ARKON project and the search for colonists, specialists, scientists and military personnel? Does it include personal conflicts between Krogan and Salarian candidates?

Questions to all:
Would you like to have a prequel novel that explains the trip to Andromeda, such as why they left, how they travel, and situations that occur during the trip?
Would you like to read about the new characters and their backstories?

I was expecting a book though to be honest. Something that discusses how we got to Andromeda. Hope it's genuine.

Yes I would like some form of prequel story to ME:A. I dabble in fan fiction for my own amusement and had played around with writing a prequel idea of how the MW races built an ARK during the timeframe of the Shepard trilogy. I think there would be some interest in fans eager to read BioWare's official justification for the ARK's construction and the motivations for the project.

If well written, yes. Jemisin speculative fiction strengths may not be conducive to writing a sci-fi novel, though. I'd speculate that her strengths will lead her to write a narrative story about certain personnel and their "boot camp" experiences for the ARKON Project.
I'd prefer a story something a kin to Ender's game. Let's face it, the leaked plot theme is quite similar to Ender's struggles

So she hates ME1.
Most of what she has to say about Mass Effect has to do with perceived gender / equality / race "issues".
The ending was apparently a non-issue.
Yup, I thought that the book might be a hoax, but that looks legit alright, her stance couldn't be more Bioware if it was an official Bioware statement.

I'm thinking N7 Day or anywhere between Nov - Jan for a release date on book with Game in Feb - March.

Interesting, then, that she did not like ME1 but can't be more Bio than Bio.
So, is her prequel book bout the ARKON, the struggles by the Planners to get the project going?.. or is this book about class struggle?

Well, if the changes in style from ME1 to ME2 & 3 are any indication, they didn't particularly like ME1 either...

To be fair, she said she hated the gameplay part of ME. In term of story I think she said she liked it.

As I answered Iedra - wasn't implying anything... just thought people might be interested in what she had to say (provided book was legit, which I was suspicious it might not be at that time). I guess it is... but probably a later release than August. So, I'm looking forward to it.

She said something about cardboard characters ("thin-as-paper characterization"), and how horrible the Asari are (because they were catered to the wrong type).

I didn't imply anything either, just was interested and looked through her blog post to find out about her, and discovered that she seems exactly the type.

Eh, characters like Tali in ME were practically walking codex, though I think in every ME game there are some pro and cons we can find about characters.
The part on the asari, I agree it's not fair, regardless of the opinion one might have about the asari.
