TS, you probably meant "Malryder vs femryder"? The Shepard is left in the Milky Way, no?

Malryder?  Some new form of computer virus?

So uh, can I get a TL;DR? Large amounts of letters together in a single post scare me.

I know I don't necessarily prefer them. Give me Lara over Nathan Drake.. or Lightning over Cloud. There's times when I easily like females more.

I play MaleShep, but who knows.. I might've gone FemShep if her defaults were better. The reason I picked male was because the default was so good. I hate Character creators. They're overrated. And I'm not a good 3d artist. I end up spending 10-15 hours trying to get something workable in them.

I like CC...in general. Bioware's aren't that good. DAI was alright in term of face modification. Now they just have to make better hairstyles and good-looking hairs and we'll be good.

But yes, Sheploo's face is a lot better then the CC, not only for the face in general, but for how detailed it is.

I'm all for a strong female protagonist. But I also believe equality is key. What I'm saying is that bioware should appeal to both male and female. Not just focusing on one.

I agree, though so far Bioware didn't really market the two gender equally. Maybe DAI, but I'm not sure.

Other then that, the N7 trailer wasn't even about the new PC. Is about Shepard saying goodbye, and Shepard was vastly marketed more as a male. I honestly don't see that big of a deal for having femshep in the last one.

I don't believe this is necessarely a "VS" situation.

As you say, the only thing that bothered me regarding the lack of a Male Shepard version of this teaser is the fact that this is it. It's likely to be the very last we will see of Shepard in the franchise and it's clearly meant to be a goodbye to the fans who have accompanied the character over so many years.

So yes, I was a bit saddened because Jeniffer Hale, great tough she is, was not the Shepard that I accompanied on these missions. Her voice is not the one I heard through so many memorable moments.

I can't stand Sheploos face :D. Most likely because it will not be unique, ever. Almost anything the CC gives me is better. I really need to put my mark on my character. If not I loose interest.

I think I'm grateful that I don't care about any of this.

Personally: Jennifer Hale's voice acting weren't for me... It was too... well... imho. emo... Personal subjective oppinion and all that jazz...

I think the trailer worked tho... Because, to me, it also functioned as a nice homage to Alien, one of my alltime favorite movies and with one of my alltime favorite female protagonists.

Trailer voices in general I don't really care about... It's a trailer! Come on... What's gonna be in the game and we will be listening to for hours matters.

A: You can ask to be treated equally to any other demographic if you have been there with the franchise since the beginning, sure.

B: Saying “Oh we always had that advantages before so we deserves more attention just because we are more numerous…” Nope it does not work like that and it NEVER WILL. I have seen tons of those comments saying the industry owe something to the male because they are the majority.

C: EVEN if you can prove most of the video game customer are male, it does not make you entitled to get more attention. Asking for equality is ok, asking for special treatment will never be.

A: Why would you need to having been there from the beginning to count?

B: So which is it... Is being represented according to demopgrahics (in general or just of the target segment) ok?

Because then being more numerous should infact give you more attention.

Or is it not?

In which case people are NOT treated according to demographics... Some people are rated as more special and worth more than others. 1 person X does no longer equal 1 person Y, but 1 person now equals eg. 10 person Y, which is per definition... special treatment.

C: I dislike you round up the whole gaming industry as a whole... That is like saying that the whole clothes industry gives way too much attention to women. Overpaid female models, that womens fashion industry is bigger and so on...

There is room, within gaming and clothes... For segments or subdivisions or whatchamacall it... Where it's ok to have a niche, where you primarily make things for men or women. Not that I think bioware and mass effect does this to any big degree, but they could lean a few percentages (from a straight 50/50) to either party.

But as long as I don't see people fighting the sexist female targeting of bra's for women only... There is nothing wrong, with making a product with a specific gender in mind.

Yeah, I though I put 'in my opinion' in my post. As I said, I like CC, but ME is not good enough for me to pick it over Sheploo. Even more so in ME2-ME3, when they removes scar options, and the eyes I liked more in the CC for male characters made the cheekbones weird in certain angles or facial expressions..

This, although I've always had a little more of a bias to femshep just because Jennifer Hale did such a great job with her.

I like Jen Hale but I felt her voice was a little gruff like she'd been smoking a lot. Don't get me wrong she's a great voice actor.

I honestly couldn't care less whether a guy or a gal narrates a trailer for a video game. The people on both sides of the fence that get really passionate about it? Them I can't take seriously. People getting upset and arguing over this stuff is ridiculous.

When you're one of those people constantly babbling on about "muh equality!" and one of your biggest concerns is representation in videogame trailers, it's time to get some perspective.

Some people are just dissapointed to not hear their favorite voice actor saying goodbye to the franchise they have been working on for years, is that really bad that some person would like to see their favorite voice actor participate in a tribute?

"I honestly don't see that big of a deal for having femshep in the last one."

Like I said in my first message before, when it is a promotional trailer, it can be on one gender no problem in that, when it is a final goodbye it should be on both because both voice actor should get the opportunity to say goodbye.

So for any other promotional trailer, no problem in being female only, when it is a tribute, both should get the chance.

Personally, I think OP has used a lot of words to basically say, "It's complicated."

And it is. Kind of. I've never cared in the least which gender of protagonist is featured in the promotional material, but it makes me nervous when it develops into a gender war. And I don't actually think threads like this one help.

The OP seems to assume that male players invariably prefer male protagonists and that female players prefer female ones, for one thing, which isn't necessarily true. This shouldn't need to be divisive in the first place.

Exactly. And there are no male gamers whining about not being catered to. It's silly.

People of both genders need to quit crying about who does or doesn't show up in a pointless advertisement.

I was just saying that since most of the industry caters to a certain demographic, that demographic just because they are more numerous cannot say they deserves it more, because that's implying the industry should ignore any other demographic which would lead to even less exposition for underrepresented demographic.

Watch the video of jim sterling in my first message if you need a reminder. Bioware can decides to cater to anyone they want, if they decides to go for a transexual romance in the next game, the last thing someone should do would be saying : "Oh transexual are just a small minority, why don't you cater to me instead, I am in the majority".

Now that said I am not saying they should ignore their previous audience (pretty much the reason I talked about the "audience there from the beginning"), But I just feel asking for advantage is not right, its entitled to say other demographics should be ignored or relegated when most of the industry already does it.

And remember I said it because of some comments that I have seen, I am not saying all of the industry is like that, I said that it was just a part of the fanbase.

Well that's the thing its not a pointless advertising, its probably the last time we hear the commander sheppard, is it that bad that people think both voice actor should get the chance to say goodbye?

Why is it necessary to hear from Shepard after the events of ME3? His or her story finished in that game.

Well like I said, its not just the character of sheppard saying goodbye its the voice actor behind also saying goodbye to the fans as this character. That is why it has his importance.

In the spirit of May the 4th, Too long;

giphy.gif

Youtube comments are the worst place to look for community representation in general and it's better to take everything you see there with a pinch of salt. Honestly did you write all that just because some plebs over there were upset about who voiced the damn intro?

The large majority of people who saw it probably went "oh cool" and never really cared about which Shepard spoke two lines that got a fraction of the total screen time. Space jesus is dead, move on.

Didn't we already have that with the Citadel DLC?
