Off-topic, but is this show any good? I've been reading the books and wondering whether I should watch this too at some point.

One of the problems with portraying someone with a genetic disorder in this setting isn't just that Mass Effect has the technology to deal with that.
After all, if I was selecting people to board a lifeboat for the next Galaxy, I would select those without any genetic disorders (Or correct the disorder before letting them board). Building from a small population means even a recessive gene in one individual could become a significant problem in a couple generations.

Off-topic on: Yes, it's pretty damn good. Expecting the second season ![]()
And look! you have Tali's auntie Ran as renegade politician.
Just the ones that might lead to a harmful illness or disorder. This doesn't stop there being plenty of interesting people, those people would just be very healthy. So ME is at the point of where recessive genes don't exist anymore? An entire ship of perfect individuals seems far less interesting.

Why would it be more interesting to witness people struggling with disabilities? Nobody is saying that everyone is perfect. We can still have a range of different characters on board, with all kinds of character flaws and interesting psychological profiles.
They need to allow me to have my flabby non aesthetic physique in story. It just doesn't feel organic when "my character" looks better than me when he takes off his shirt.
Some of us were not blessed by the genetic lottery.
You don't need perfect genes for a ok body. Just determination and dedication ![]()
I would actually really like to be able to play a protagonist with a more pronounced hourglass figure.
Or peach shaped. mmmhhh.

I'm in the gym 7 days a week sometimes twice a day, count my macros and have above average hygiene. Genes are everything. I think there is a pheromone gene that makes me secrete a smell that is repulsive to women.

There are tons of people with disabilities in the game. They're called Biotics. Don't you ever talk to Joker?

I've yet to read the books, but I loved the first season of the television series. I think it's the best Sci Fi series on TV in years.
There is a lot of work being done with blindness, AI visors, assisted vision smart glasses and prosthetics for legs, arms, hands…...and I really would not mind something like this being in the game.
FA4 Brotherhood has an engineer with special power armor because she lost her legs in a battle. Geordi La Forge had his visor. The biggest problem might be how these things would be repaired out in the boondocks of space, but I don't think it's a bad idea.
Different body types would be very nice.
I'm glad my topic has raised so many replies....many of those are interesting.
Some of the critics were about that people with disabilities are not believable because of the technology...well I understand that, but I don't agree completely as new disabilities could exist because of new viruses or illness, a new galaxy implies a lot of unknown situations...also the ability to cure is also a question of resources....not everyone can be cured, and /or require times....
But, a part this, I think and I repeat disabilities can bring new thematic material for creating new stories, new dramas...
What about for example a shock so strong that dumb one of the protagonist....this could be a permanent or temporary disability...and what what about a new race which is not able to hear sounds?....in which way the charachter would communicate?....here there are plenty of new opportunities to be understood and used...
Cheers and thank you for so much feedback!
A race that wouldn't be able to hear would not be classified as a disability, I don't think.
It would be a trait, and that's about it.
yes, a trait that could be understood by better by a human being with this disability....a way to build a bridge with other races...this is a good example about how disabilities can bring advantages and can be seen as strengths....cheers!
I was kind of more meaning that if a particular alien race were all blind, it wouldn't be considered a disability. Being blind is a disability for humans because you've either been born without an ability, or have lost an ability that most humans have. A blind alien race wouldn't be disabled, because it wouldn't be an ability for them. They would have neither been born without a particular ability, or have lost it. So it would just be a trait. It would be like calling a bird disabled because it has a beak instead of a mouth like one that humans have. Or calling a cat disabled for not having opposable thumbs. Neither birds or cats are disabled, they're just different. But a cat with two legs would be disabled, and a bird without a beak would be disabled, because they're traits the vast majority of their kind have four legs and a beak respectively.

What about an Krogan without his redundant system? A Salarian who thinks and talks pretty slowly? A Hanar without his luminaric system? An Asari unable to mate without killing her... wait
Edit offtopic: someone knows how to un-hide a topic? I don't know how but when I tried to change the name of a topic I ended breaking it or something...
Why do I get the feeling that "Bro" have been waiting to show that picture?
We've already had a mentally challenged squadmate in the series. Her name was Miranda. ![]()
Seriously though, I wouldn't expect to see a disabled squadmate. I'd like to see more body types though. Developers in general have a bad habit of customizing all the main actors and then saddling all the NPCs with the same two male/female bodies. It'd be nice if everyone in the galaxy wasn't exactly 5'10".
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this and I guess everyone has written this off as a troll thread but; There is one way I'd like to see 'disabilities' implemented: squadmates temporarily limping or struggling to function so long as you don't give them medi-gel/return to the base to get patched up.
I don't remember ever using medi-gel for squadmates post ME1, maybe the one rare chance I really needed them right here right now, so it could bump the use if medi-gel without negating believability.
Permanent disabilities are, as some other ppl have pointed out, almost impossible with the technological advances the ME universe has.
You like it.
Nah, not blurry enough. ![]()
And wrong ratio of male/female persons included. ![]()
