(I tried to post this in the combat and strategy sub but it doesnt let me do it..)

I'd like to create a new armour for solas, cass and sera but the only good schematics (grade 220-250) I have are hideous (my eyes cant stand to have solas in an antaam-saar anymore and I cant bring myself to make cass wear a shokra-taar) so I'm trying to figure out what are some good schematics for rogue, warrior and mage and where I can buy them. I tried the black emporium and there's lots of them but I cant buy them all... I have around 33000 coins right now.

can you give me any suggestions about which ones are the best?

The Tier 3 armor schematics can be farmed out of loot chests mostly found in Emprise du Lion (Valeska's Watch, for example), and Cradle of Sulevin (which you can find in Emprise du Lion). However, if you are looking to straight up buy schematics, I would open up the Hissing Wastes region, from the War map. If you are under level 16, I should warn you to avoid fighting...just run, if enemies are encountered. Head NW of the first camp to a canyon. There is a Mabari hound, that sells Tier 3 Schematics, for all classes. Here is a map you can use to locate the Canyon: http://game-maps.com...sing-Wastes.asp

Don't forget to use the Golden Nug, in the Undercroft, once you have obtained new schematics, if you wish for further characters you make later on, to have those schematics already, when starting a new game. :)

**EDIT**
I should note, that the armor schematics sold at the Black Emporium, are the same as ones you can buy (or find in chests), out in the rest of the game world. However, if you are below level 16, I do believe the BE will not offer the Tier 3 schematics, till you reach said level. Same with the Tier 3 material that you can buy at the Emporium, as well. All armor and weapon upgrades though, must either be found in chests, or purchased at certain shops throughout the world (Like Suledin's Keep, in Emprise du Lion, for example).

If you've beaten the game once, you can buy expensive schematics and upload them to your Golden Nug, and then, reload the save to spare you from losing your coins.

thanks for the answers! it's my first time playing but I'll keep in mind the golden nug for future plays.

I'm at level 18 at the moment so tier 3 armours are available, the only problem is I'm a bit lost about which ones to invest money in if I decide to buy them at the black emporium since there are so many options for each class...

The best are probably Superior Battlemage (mage), Superior Prowler (rogue) and Superior Battlemaster (warrior) armors, since they allow you to equip upgrades. Besides, those are the ones that are affected by each companion's unique "look".

The thing is, there are three types of each. Coat, Armor and Mail. While 1st and 3rd are available in Black Emporium, 2nd one is available in a shop coldwetn0se mentioned. The difference between those are two - their look and which materials they use in which slot.

There are also tier 4 versions of Coat and Mail available with Jaws of Hakkon DLC (merchant in Stone-Bear Hold sells those).

My honest opinion? Now, with Golden Nug, buying schematics "traditionally" is waste of gold. Method which Excella Gionne explained is far better. If you're feeling lucky, I would try schematic farming. Tedious, but at least there's Golden Nug now for you to sync those schematics later, when you're done with this pt. And you still have gold for later.

Oh, and you can't post in some parts of forum because you need to have right game associated with your profile. For example, to post in all DAI subforums, you need DAI associated with your profile.

There's a chest in the treasure room of valammar in the Hinterlands (by the fallen pillers, to the east of the room as you face the exit) that has tier three gear.  It can take a long time to farm using it, though.

I did this as soon as it came out. It was glorious :)

Adding onto this, if it's your first playthrough you can still use a similar trick. Make a save at the Black Emporium, then buy stuff, go to Skyhold as take a look, then reload to the Emporium. It might take a few trips if you're short on gold, but it works.

Don't you have to have a completed save file to get the nug to appear?

Yes, but my additional tip doesn't need the nug. You just buy a bunch of schematics, travel to the undercroft and take a look at their appearances/stats, then reload to the BE and only buy the one(s) you ended up liking, saving you gold. Does that make sense?

Ahhhhh, right.  Sorry, I completely misread your comment.

a few comments say to try "farming" schematics.. but what doest that mean? will chests and treasure boxes.. respawn loot?

I've already opened most if not all available areas and I definitely looted in some of the locations mentioned in the comments above but I haven't found a single tier 3 armour schematic yet...

"Farming" schematics.

In game you're able to refresh loot of the chest. Save before opening the chest, check out what's in there. You don't like it? Reload and check again. You should have different loot. You can take out some items from the chest, save and then reload. Should work as well. The most important part is to leave at least one item, so you can access the chest again. Taking out everything closes the chest permanently.

For t3 schematics the best are some areas in Emprise du Lion or Cradle of Suledin, since both have many chests in small areas and both allow you to get t3 loot.

As I mentioned before, this can be pretty tedious, especially if you're hunting one specific schematic. Sometimes you're lucky and get many schematics in short time, sometimes you can spent hours on that without getting anything useful. At least there's Golden Nug now.

It means "go to a chest you can loot and grab all items you need from it except one item--you need to leave one item for the save/load exploit to work." This allows the object that can be looted to refresh its contents with random drops. If you grabbed all of the contents from the object that can be looted, it will no longer allow you to loot it, thus becoming a useless object. Note that objects that can be looted in isolated areas like the "Cradle of Sulevin" cannot be farmed with the save/load exploit. These unique maps can be exploited by leaving the area and then traveling back to it. There are unique chests in the world that can't be farmed with the save/load exploit, and these are usually chests that contain the Amulet of Power(I don't know if you can farm these chests by leaving that area and then returning).

Your level determines the schematics you will receive through chests along with the difficulty of the area or map you are in. Emprise du lion, for example, is a high difficulty map, and it holds a lot of tier 3 materials and schematics there. I believe Tier 3 schematics start dropping once you are level 16 and up, but my best guess is level 19 being the lowest level where you will start getting tier 3 schematics. Know that tier 3 schematics require more crafting materials which can drain your resources. Your level determines your armor rating when crafting(same with weapons). A tier 3 crafting material on a tier 3 schematic at level 1 has a lower armor rating than when you're level 10 using tier 3 materials on tier 3 schematics. Sometimes, you just have to be patient. I know, it sucks, and you can't craft and make cool armor until you're almost close to the end of the game or 3/4 there.

oh, I see, thank you both for the answers. since I never used this method and have already looted some of the areas mentioned my options to get free good schematics are more limited  I guess, I'm at level 18 at the moment. I hope I'll get something from sulevin :) thanks for the suggestions again!

I once got a couple of good tier 3 armour schematics from chests in Citadelle du Corbeau in the Exalted Plains. This was before I had the Golden Nug. You could try there, if you haven't cleared it out yet.

You can definitely do this by leaving and returning. That's how I got a whole lot of amulets of power on one playthrough. It was fun in the end, but tedious to get done.

If you are talking about the one in the house in Crestwood, that got patched out. It's now just on the floor, so you can't reset the container to get another.
