So I have my xbox one hooked up to my tv and it's a pain in the rump to rehook up my 360 unit.  However I finally decided to do a piggy back of the 360 onto the one as described buy some posters on here.

That being, hookup up hdmi cable from 360 into xbox one.  fire up the consoles and then choose 'tv' in the options on the tv and supposedly that would let me play my 360 by linking to the xbox one......failure!  Just static.

Anyone have these two machines hooked up together successfully?

I have multi HDMI ports. Hook them up and switch to tv1 or tv2. There are also things you can buy that allow you to have 3 or 4 extra HDMI ports

Heretic....

I may have found out my error, perhaps at least doing some more googling will let me try out something different when I get home this eve.  I thought I just had to have them both hooked up and then go to my 'tv' setting via my tv remote, however it seems to suggest I have to go into my xbox one oneguide and select tv there.

I think...i think i tried that, maybe not.  All I know is that I had to hook up all sorts of things when I had my 360 hooked up other than just an hdmi when i got a new tc it suddenly had half of the plug ins that the older one had.  I will try just swapping hdmi's and see if that works, if it does then I am a ******.

If you're choked for available HDMI ports on your TV, as Jugger mentioned (in his indescribable wisdom) a decent HDMI hub like this will do the trick for you:

Took me a few reads to figure out what you were even trying to do. So it's
Xbox360-----xbone-----TV
Using xbone as an hdmi spot for tv? Too lazy to change it out occasionally? Why not just use the component cables for 360?

Channel should be same as hdmi for xbone.

My new tv does not have the same slots as my old tv, I have my tv right up against my wall and it's a big job to actually get at the back of it so I need a method to make changes without fiddling with the back of the tv.

Sounds like a collasal waste of energy.

Buy some HDMI extenders and just hang them off the TV. Like the ones for outlets but in the HDMI ports.

I have 3 HDMI ports on my TV, 1 for blu-ray player, one for 360 one for XBox One

so why not just have separate connections?

I mean, I just see the words "hookup failure" and think "someone's had a rough time on Tinder," so. At least that's not what's happening here.

Unless you're also having problems in that department, in which case you have my deepest sympathies.

Mariana Trench levels of sympathy for not just being on Tinder, but failing at it.

Why a blu-ray player? Don't tell me XBox One doesn't support that, the older PS3 handles it just fine (I actually found it better than some Blu-Ray players, and I swear PS2 was the best DVD Player ever made).

I usually just watch stuff on my computer anyway, which is sad, because the HDMI port on it doesn't work, never has, so video quality is not perfect, but still fine.

I play off Region DVD's on my blu ray player (which is modded for Region 0 DVD)

I still use AV cables for my PS3. My PS4 uses the HDMI port (there's another one, but I've never used my PS3 on HDMI). My DVD player uses a big cable that does into the back of the television. It's about fourteen years old, my DVD player, and still going strong.
