I doubt it'll change the whole tone. I mean, if you mean whatever the mission purpose is or the attitude of your whole team. That would be kind of cool, but I don't think Bioware can do it... or wants to.

I have a movie to watch now..... I should go.

Please do not adopt the tone of Battlefield 1
Which is basically glorification of war in and of itself. The fun of violence without any purpose or drama behind it.
In fact, combat can be fun but only if it is spurred by dramatic tension built up by plot.
Mass Effect is a game that's always been about unity and what we can accomplish if we work together, not about making a statement about the horrors of war.
I mean, our choices should matter but I don't expect the game to try to make me feel bad for gunning down hundreds of people.
We have to be careful though, because in the original trilogy, it was a cooperative alliance against terrifying invasive machines, whereas in Andromeda it will be..... uh... unifying against native species understandably upset we're invading their homeland?
It's colonialism. It's potentially genocide. At the very least they need to answer to the fact they included the Wild West music in their initial teaser, inviting the parallel to the colonization of the Americas, and recognize the horror of stomping on aboriginal civilizations. Either choose to co-exist with them or replace them. But NOT to reduce them automatically to savages.
Unfortunately, the initial Andromeda synopsis already called the alien species on these worlds, which we are colonizing, as deadly savages. Not good. I expected Bioware to know better.

nah this is great, thus far I've been limited to grand strategy games like EU4 to get my colonial fix!

They have liberty to explore colonialism, but will they be self-aware? That is the question.
Or will the tone automatically be, "these are savage natives, we have a right to replace them?"
Self-awareness. Self-awareness okay?

and by self aware do you mean "beat over the head with the morality stick" because that's about all the nuance BioWare is able to muster

No. And I agree they were way too heavy-handed in Inquisition about certain things but.... in Mass Effect I thought it was alright. Whatever morality issues they brought up were... I don't know... at least housed in strong dramatic direction.
Inquisition didn't house their morality issues in strong dramatic direction so they were just like. um. hanging out there as you were.

In fact, making facts out of personal preferences isn't a good idea. Combat can be fun irrespective of plot, depends on the person and how good the combat actually is.

Yeah, like Super Smash brothers.
I make my statement in the context of the bare minimum trademarks of Bioware games. You don't like story or plot, go play Super Smash Bros. Perfectly fun game. But some plotless combat in a Bioware game is not fun. In any RPG for that matter.
Uh..multiplayer?

I suppose the "Fight or Die!" tone in the trilogy was appropriate since it really was Building up to a galaxy unified against a force that has no other agenda then the extermination of all organic life.
It seems they are going to implement a diplomacy route or something like that already, But I want it to change the narrative and tone of the game.
Like when you engage violently you will have to bear witness to the destruction you are causing and have people look at you differently when you recreate the trail of tears in space. Perhaps betrayal or mutiny can happen when you destroy without reason.
perhaps the natives can rebel and fight back or if you are peaceful then they will later become powerful assets that you can interact with instead of being a number on the screen.
Do you think your actions should change the atmosphere and tone of the game?

Too complicated and won't sell well to the "greater unwashed". These casual gamers are uninterested in exercising two neurons.

We really don't know enough to start comparing it to the European colonization of the Americas. Their choice of music has already been widely criticized around here as not being a great choice for a Mass Effect game.
To be honest I don't put much faith in trailers this early on or a synopsis because they're done by marketing, which means that they're more interesting in using words and images they think will get people's attention. Why they went with the "Wild west" theme I don't know, because I don't think that's even a good theme to push space exploration like they have been in what little we've gotten about the game.
That said I think BioWare is going to stick to their style of creating big epic storylines where we get to be the big goddamn heroes, so there will probably be some outside threat that we get to come together with the locals to defeat.
Not every game needs to beat you over the head with "war is bad, mmkay?".
Uh..multiplayer?
The Multiplayer was buoyed by literally the entire game's plot of defending against the reapers.
It was like the high of he plot was so strong, they could float Multiplayer on the after-fumes.
ME3 plot so strong? lol....right.
Do you even multiplayer bro or was that just really heavy sarcasm?
I did miss Two Steps From Hell in the trailer.
