Yep, seeing as how Shep and co are akin to a group of LARPers playing war for the weekend. Shepard doesn't even display basic military tactics, his usual plan is "go here and shoot things". That he's both a fireteam leader and (de facto) captain doesn't make much sense either.

That last bit is pretty necessary for the games to function as they do. I don't want to play Grunt #1 that can't make any decisions regarding your fireteam or where the ship goes. That being said, this is a good reason to abandon the military and be a civilian group that perhaps has a military background to account for having combat skills. I'd love to play a ragtag group like in Firefly.

I suppose the "Fight or Die!" tone in the trilogy was appropriate since it really was Building up to a galaxy unified against a force that has no other agenda then the extermination of all organic life.

It seems they are going to implement a diplomacy route or something like that already, But I want it to change the narrative and tone of the game.

Like when you engage violently you will have to bear witness to the destruction you are causing and have people look at you differently when you recreate the trail of tears in space. Perhaps betrayal or mutiny can happen when you destroy without reason.

perhaps the natives can rebel and fight back or if you are peaceful then they will later become powerful assets that you can interact with instead of being a number on the screen.

Do you think your actions should change the atmosphere and tone of the game?

P.s. colonialism sounds fun

I'd be okay with that, as long as there are equally dire consequences for being too softhearted with aggressors, making a point of not defending ourselves and allowing opportunistic neighbors to view our settlers as rich and weak and ripe for the taking.

I don't want the game to be basically an extended anti-war slogan, portraying all conflicts as unprovoked and solvable as long as one side just turns the other cheek instead of escalating, or primitive cultures as perfect and miraculously peaceful until evil colonists arrive to impose their will. Things are seldom that simple.

There is never any glory in war and in violence. I think bioware kind of accurately shows that. ME universe is pretty damn grim and dark.

I'm thinking about making this my signature.  The only thing I would add to that is that the universe has enough violence for all the rest of us combined.  And ME shows that.

I don't think that ME was grim and dark. But then, I compare it with Universes like Warhammer40k.

But that raises the question. Why would they hire/send a coward to explore andromeda?

I don't know what you mean by cowardly, can you elaborate?

I never thought there was any particular glorification in the violence of the Mass Effect series, not when compared to other game franchises that can be argued as glorifying violence and having there premises revolved around violence and wars.

Mass Effect's combat, shooting and action never felt completely disconnected from the storyline, again, not when compared to other examples.

The new Tomb Raiders for example, there's all this effort to try and humanise Lara and make her more of a personable human being than previous incarnations, and part of her growth is her unease with killing, yet in Tomb Raider and Rise you can just plow your way through enemies in a variety of methods and get rewarded thusly. That's a strong disconnect from gameplay and story, and it could be seen as glorifying the violence in a fashion since it doesn't seem to want to match what the story and characters are trying to say.

As long as Andromeda's action, combat and gameplay has a place and context within the plot and narrative, and isn't just a good story bogged down with generic and obligatory shooting galleries to make AAA status, then I'm sure Andromeda's violence, and as to whether it glorifies it, will be as neutral as the trilogy IMO.

Sometimes, violence could feel pretty glorious, or at least a mix between that and hilarious, at some points in Mass Effect. Take setting the Clan Weyrloc spokeskrogan on fire. It was amusing, AND it was a blaze of glory. Finishing off the thresher maw with a Cain? They should've sent a poet. And of course my personal favorite, zooming in with biotic charge, then giving the enemy an ass full of flaming tungsten from my shotgun while they fly back in slow motion.

I'm not a coward. I don't want to appear as one either. I'm looking more towards badass.

As a punishment :P .

Maybe they want to ride of him/her and the best way in a new Galaxy who nobody likes you is to send this coward to a planet. They thought she/he will die, but... surprisingly, the coward is good at surviving at any cost and bit a bit will have a reputation in exploring.

For instance

Please do not adopt the tone of Battlefield 1

Which is basically glorification of war in and of itself. The fun of violence without any purpose or drama behind it.
In fact, combat can be fun but only if it is spurred by dramatic tension built up by plot.

How do you know what the tone of Battlefield 1's campaign will be? Could be they take a look the pointlessness of WW1. For instance, we already know the Bedouin woman in the trailer is one of the player characters. I wouldn't be surprised to see the end of that plot show the effective betrayal of the Arabs by the Allies with the Sykes-Picot agreement.

wow! That sucks. A hero is no coward. A hero saves good people. And defeats the wrong ones. A hero fights for the good of the people. They're unstoppable bad@$$3$. But I guess that's a bit cliche right? In real life a hero isn't as dramatic but they usually are morally good people. A firefighter who saves an elderly lady and her cats from a Building, that's a true hero. United States Marines, true heroes. Not cowards.

My old roommate created, "Fail Shepard" for ME2. A femshep biotic that made every bad choice possible and lost as many crew members as you can. We wanted to see just how bad things could be in the Suicide Mission. (Pretty bad. Also hilarious)

If you're ever bored it was actually pretty hilarious to watch him play her as derpy possible, I can sort of recommend it as a "comedic playthrough".
