I really think that the impossibility for our teammates to die is not good as it does not make sense.

I understand that there is a big problem with the continuity of the story...so I'm aware of this compromise, but having adopted this system brings a heavy consequence: the death of our temmates during  a firefight action has much less impact emotionally....there is no risk...so I think, the concept of ''impossible to die'' has to change.

My idea is to give 9 lives (yes , like a cat or an old arcade videogame has) In this way the player takes responsability on who to choose during a combat situation....will I risk to bring with me someone that has lost 8 lives before?...is a big choice and very thrilling in my opinion....

I know it is not realistic, c'mon 9 lives!!! but is emotionally interesting and games are a fine balace among different kind of realities..included our reality.

What do you think?

Cheers! :-)

While I respect the idea it will be either impossible to accomplish or the game will be filled with boring interchangable characters that don't contribute to the story. We've seen it already. We've got ME2, where every squad member could die and then in ME3 they are reduced to insignificant roles. I'd rather sacrifice realism then not have any interesting and important characters.

Giving them lives doesn't actually address the problem. Characters who can die have to have all their contributions to the story guarded by contingencies, either resulting in a lot of work for potentially insignificant characters or just insignificant characters. And different players will still burn through companions at different rates.

So instead of assuming that our team members are super awesome people that don't die, you want super people that have 9 lives instead? For me that does less sense than my group is the best.

And I don't really get the "it is nor realistic that people don't die in battle". I don't play this kind of games to be reminded of real life, I can go out for a walk in that case.

Plus we've got this thing called medi-gel and armor and shields. Apparently cutscenes sometimes forget about it.

I would rather have an optional "ultra hard"/permadeath mode - where if you or a squad made goes down at all, there is no such thing as Medi-Gel and you must start that mission completely over again to proceed further in the game.

You know the rumor mill's run dry when we stoop to puns.

Anyways, I say no to random perma-death in battle. You just know that the writers won't give any characters more attention if they can all be disposed of at any time, and besides that, would we just have to go solo for the remainder of the game, or would they have to create a bunch of substitutes to keep filling the ranks? It just doesn't work.

I think squadmates should be "incapacitated" during battle when they lose their shields/health -- but not permanent death or a "9 lives" style.  I think death will be best when making a major decision during the game, such as Kaidan/Ashley, Suicide mission, and then how you play the game in ME3.
